No they don't.  People do not get run over on the hard shoulder in the UK.  Firstly, if you break down you pull to the hard shoulder and get out of your car and off the hard shoulder.  Secondly, trucks and cars never ever drive on the hard shoulder to undertake or to use it as a shortcut if there is traffic.

It is tragic but there is no education about the dangers here.  Remember the policeman getting killed by the actress when he pulled over for a nap on the motorway?
They lack the capacity to imagine what could happen in the next 2 seconds.

The foresight capabilities is down to 0.1 seconds.
    Approximately
  2. Its up to the people to decide whether they want to continue the road carnage or not. Until people take ownership and responsibility for their personal safety and the safety of their community , then these accidents will continue.

    Unfortunately you can't fix stupid.

Nor would I sit 1 meter from the highway in picknick style either.

They just have no sense of risk management.

Waiting, smoking, pissing, selling, buying, sitting flush to a highway is the norm.

I watched a thai soap with the wife last night...explicitly in slow motion showing the beat down of 2 thai woman as he punched and slapped them to the floor..,then the hero stormed in to save the day....absolutely primitive ...

    yes

and guns guns guns all over the place in the soap-operas, setting the standard for "normal" behavior.
    Its just crazy.

  4. The thing is that the face and profile of tourism in Thailand has been constantly changing and that's been true since I first started living here in 2004. I remember when western tourist numbers were first down in Pattaya and all the bar owners were screaming that the place would never be the same again, that was early 2000! Chinese and other Asian countries that make up the majority of the tourist numbers into Thailand don't sit in Pattaya or Phuket bars all day and don't spend their nights chasing bar girls so it's no wonder the average western tourist doesn't see them and thinks the world is coming to an end. Try looking at any one of the (non-bar/non-sex) tourist-related businesses in the North which are packed out daily, not with westerners but with Asians, or try talking to one of the tour operators in the North, that'll give you a better idea of what's happening on the tourist front, it is doing very very well.

  5. I doubt I'll ever have a problem finding a tube if I want one.
    Wikipedia
    Tubeless
"Traditional designs of pneumatic tires required a separate inner tube which could fail for a number of reasons, such as incorrect tire fit, friction between the tire wall and inner tube generating excess heat, or a puncture. Tubeless tire technology does away with the need for an inner tube thereby increasing safety."

    Stubbornness is not knowledge.
Doing as I always have done is not progressing.
    It's plain ignorance.
  6. Heat build up in the tube and explosions.

Seriously? I've driven hundreds of thousands of miles on tubeless tyres with tubes fitted, and never had one explode.
    Yes.

Very few people blow a tire in their lifetime.
So your statistical mileage is still low.

Check this specific truck for example.
    Tubeless or not?

In the the western world tubes in car tires is history.
    No such thing anymore.
    Exception can always be found.
    Less than 1% for sure.

  7. Sorry, but I have to call you out on that as it's just not true.
I had so much trouble with tubeless that I put tubes in all my tyres, and they never deflate, let alone "quickly" unless punctured.
If you have leaky rims, can't blame on the tires.

Tubeless on motorcycles at least is always leaking less.
Given you have a proper rim.

Cars in the modern world is always tubeless.
Only in thailand i have seen people put tubes into car tires, probably because the rim is gone.

You could possibly also live on cheaper tires.
But it causes a lot of problems.

people in the back, driving in the middle lane, som nom nah.

    for sure no driver license.

1: A quick change into the left lane ignoring any traffic in that lane.  (happens all the time)

2: Truck on its way to overtake  at a speed where he is incapable of dealing with object doing lane change (happens all the time)

2 bad drivers at the same place = crash.

For those of you belly-aching about tire shops not inflating tires to their correct pressure, do something about it. Buy a proper pressure gauge and a hand pump like I did from HomePro. I had to pump up my scooter tires every 7-10 days. Most tires lose air over a short period but the small scooter tires deflate even faster.

yes, they have tubes inside, and they deflate quickly compared to tubeless versions.

The video shows one receiving CPR - incredible if they saved her life.

This definitely brings back to the forefront the issues and recent news regarding the 'lifted' bans on people riding in the backs of pick-up trucks.

Its often those who's opportunity for choice is removed based on their financial and social status who are placed in harms way.

always choosing the cheapest is not the same thing as not being able to upgrade if needed.

not always about ability, its the culture, cheapest is always first choice regardless other options.

  11. The Chinese are making very few people mega rich (likely more mega rich than they already are) as the tours only go to selected places to shop, eat & visit. The man on the street does not benefit the same as they used to when they were able to attract walk by customers.
    Today yes.
But Chinese people will evolve like the rest of us did before them.

Next generation Chinese people will travel as we do today.

    Tomorrow is another day.

what was he doing on completely the wrong side of the road behind the bus ?

he  is speeding like a maniac

    sees the bus to late

has to avoid it at to high speed and starts oscillating , then trying to recover control of the car.

its just the breaking distance from the high speed until it comes at a  stop.

He is just speeding like crazy, that is not unusual.

can be seen om thousands of compilations on youtube.

    same same

  14. I see advertising now here in Thailand for the cars with sensors that will automatically break the car when you are about to run something over.

I assume it will not sell to the male Thai  population here.

They will not break for anything, ever never.

Such a system is just unacceptable and utterly confusing for them.

A system that will automatically flash your headlight moments before you run something over will become a success tough.
