Thanks for the details.
I wished all chickens in Thailand would be raised in this way...A lot are. Wifey is on a Line group with 300 other farms, they all share tips and experience. The only downside to most other farms is biosecurity, mostly non-existent. All the meat and blood testing though is standard. I'm happy eating Thai chicken.

Give you a clue. F'ck me its hot! Appetite versus RH and temp. Your birds look like they might be panting?
They are starting to but only the last couple of days, they're getting towards 3.3kg
Max temp is 28degC with the pads on 80%RH and at the same time feed consumption has levelled out together with water consumption.
Funny, they drink exactly twice as much as they eat litre/kg.
I am thinking of adding ceiling vents towards the pad end. Only small openings but to let in warmer air. Theory is as it cools and drops the RH should decrease. What do you think?
What did you do about the flies? They drive me nuts.

Well at 1:1400 and B200/litre the cost per bird is not high. A 3.5 Kg chicken will take a while to drink a litre. If it works, and its his vet's reputation at stake. I'd be inclined to make sure he knows you are watching the results.
You are on a zero cost base if it is in fact working. You wont save any money using EMRO's stuff until you can show FCR and medication/vet cost improvements.
Spot on. I'll let you know our next FCR, last one 1.70
Currently trying to figure out how the Kiwis get 1.38

Beware there are many things "labelled by locals" as EM. The real EM is made here by EMRO and is the original Japanese Dr Haga formulation. Last time I purchased that it was 80 baht per litre and the labelling was printed in green on the 1 litre white plastic packaging. Take a look at www.emro-asia.com for the logo.
There are local clones which are sold for around 50 baht per litre (not a lot of difference in effect).
I used a couple of different brands for composting etc and for the pigs to start.
Later I got a special probiotic starter brew which I then reproduced on farm (2 200Litre drums). It supposedly had a different set of microbes (big secret???). All I know is it produced marginally better FCR and immune system results. BUT it was 30K initially to set it up, after that zero per litre.
I don't know if birds require anything special but I chose the pig special since the Health Department Head "suggested" it would fix a repeated complaint he was getting and dismissing. I really didn't get a choice and didn't think too much about the shares in the proceeds.
**** What did your vet do to get the EM going?
All probiotics are supplied inert or "asleep". The first step is to activate them.
You are dosing at 1:1400. That is about the same as I was told to use with the pig EM.
I have 4 1000 litre tanks which I put 1 litre/tank of either EMA or the EM-Pig into before I filled them.
So it was using one litre of EMA (made by fermenting 1 litre of EM, 1 litre of molasses and 18 litres of water in a 20 litre jerry can for about a week) or drawing a litre of EM-Pig from the brew tanks.
Thanks, I'll look it up. Apparently what he supplies is activated and I've no doubt it's home made. Plus he's charging B200/litre.
I add to drinking water same as vitamin, vaccine, etc using the dosing pump.

How are you introducing the EM and at what dosage/dilution? I used activated EM (EMA = 1:1:20) at 1/1000 in the water used for drinkers and pen washing for our pigs. Brilliant results.
First time we've used it. Supplied from our vet. He removed the labels from the containers to preserve his source and profit......so I don't know what concentration it is supplied. We dose in the wayer at 1:1400.
If you could tell me what EM product you used I'd be grateful.

Are you contracting with Betagro?
Do you know what type of breed your broilers are?
What about the feed? No kind of medicine or similar mixed in?Chickens are Cobb. All male this time from young hens. We were concerned when we received them to see the chicks so small. The first week they were below target weight but have soon caught up.
The feed contains no animal protein or antibiotic. Amino acids and vitamins are added to the feed but all dry matter is corn, soya and other organic matter.
From day one to six they are given a low dose antibiotic (we don't claim to be NAE but are residue-free at slaughter) which clears their system within 15 days. They are also given additional vitamin supplement for the first ten days or so.
We have also started an EM supplement from around day twenty to day thirty-eight this time which improved their gut health, hopefully reduces FCR and reduces farm smell.
One way we differ is that we give them six hours continuous dark, during nighttime which we believe helps with feed digestion and aids welfare.
We cull and dissect two chickens at day thirty and take them to the lab for residue tests. The vet takes blood samples around day forty and take to the lab also.
Most of the company chicken is exported to Japan.

What's there.
Me, next week 555. Good beaches, nice little hotels, good restaurants, Thai and European. Good fresh seafood. No go-go bars.

Just keep away from Mae Phim, near Rayong.

I read somewhere on here about the mothball trick, actually think it was Crossy. Use them in all our electrical control panels to stop gin joks shorting stuff out.
I even put them inside an outdoor TV after gin joks cost me B2,000 to repair the Samsung TV. I also put them in the switch box for the borehole pump after the breaker kept tripping, again, fried gin jok. Good tip.

Without a Thai person (wife/gf) then your plan is dead from the start.
The first of the problems that you will run into is the labour laws which prevents a farang from certain jobs and one of those is farming.
IIRC you will need to form a company of which you can ONLY own 49% and you will need to employ at least 4 Thais to work with you before you can apply for a work permit which you will not be granted as farming is a Thai restricted job.
I am quite happy to be proved wrong on this point but AFAIR without Thais in the melting pot it is unlikely to happen.
I believe that you definitely need to speak with not just one lawyer but at least 3 or more different ones to give you the best 2 from 3, 3 from 5 opinions.
I understand that it will be a PITA but ask the lawyers before you go too far and lose your money before you start.
I don't know what kind of farming you intend to try but it has been said many times on TVF, if you want to make a small fortune in farming in Thailand, then start with a large one and be prepared to lose a large chunk of the large fortune.
OP, this is correct and just about wraps up your question.
However, I would think it would be possible to find a small plot of land to rent, somewhere out in the sticks, put in a little knock-down house and grow your own veggies without too much problem. You'll never own the land but you'd save on a capital outlay.

Yes I'm aware of that rick. As Long as I stay long term on the land is ok. I guess the best way is to ask a lawyer. I was just wondering if people have some knowledge about it.
Do you have a Thai wife and dependants?

Ok I dont completely understand all this. But let me just put imaginary scenario. I find a person who has 20 rai of Land. Then I give him fair money for his land as a LOAN against the title
And what do you as a farang do after he has pocketed the cash 'loan', refuses to pay it back and when you go to the court to take title possession they tell you to get lost? You are farang, you cannot own chanote land deeds.
Your post is a fantasy mate.

Sorry, I meant hand over to someone to keep hold of as these motocy companies seem to do.

However I must admit that I have occasionally had to get rid of ants carrying aphids up the plant to further produce sugar. That process wasn't very organic but as time goes on the less I have had to apply permethrin to the soil, haven't done that since a year now.
I can't vouch for the claim that WV works as a weed killer, not in my garden at any rate,

PS I think Isaan aussie gave me this.
For citrus trees in tubs plant in some mint. You have to keep thinning it out but ants don't seem to like it.
Citrus in the ground I've tried sticky tape around the trunk with varying results, yet to find a proprietary tape here.

Full hit next time with coleslaw, salad, fries and better bread (and a cold beer).

The only way to avoid paying it is not to have a sign. My missus won't have one which caused a few delivery problems to start with but we're not hard to find

After you have successfully established many Thaivisa denizens in the floor scrubbing business, here's another one for you. But make sure with these opportunities that you have it fronted by a Thai. They really despise us westerners coming in and telling them how to run a business, or their country.
Opportunity: Figure out how to dispose of the after-harvest crop refuse without burning it off. Maybe the denizen farmers on Thaivisa can comment on an idea that I have thought about; mulch it into the ground. Buy industrial mulchers and sell the service. Could become a franchise opportunity.
Already happening.

This is the closest I've got to a locally availalble arrangement that accepts two BS1363 plugs, with a bonus 2-pin socket too.
Unfortunately you can't replace the 2-pin with a switch as the UK plug just fouls.
Whilst it doesn't fit IN a Thai back box it does cover a Thai box and the 5 unit carrier has holes that line up with the standard fixings. That said I think I'd add a couple of extra screws into the wall if damage to the wall wasn't an issue.
Thanks, appreciate it. I was thinking the other day the switch would still foul. But the pic is just what I needed, now wifey can go out armed with the right info. Very kind of you to post it up.

Thanks Grollies!
Would you mind giving me the BKK tel. no.? I know you said they don't stock it any more, but if enough people enquire about it, maybe they'll realise that there's a demand for it.

@djayz. Hello mate. I think this is what you are after. Now the bad news, just phoned the Bangkok number and they don't stock it anymore due to lack of demand. Dr Treelove's online link is going to be your best bet. I'll be checking out the link too, mine's just about run out.
I don't understand why this stuff is not widely used here but farmers seem to like their chemicals more. Even Gen Pryut mentioned using neem on his friday show the other week. Education I suppose?
