A lot of expensive housing development on Bangna is banking on that line coming, if they peg that to the airport, it'd only be atter the airport south terminal gets built which could be decades away

Yes so in the end this line is on hold till anyone decides to pay for it 🙂 I agree a lot of overpriced house projects now here around me and everyone is doing Marketing with "Skytrain is coming", luckily I bought years ago and didn't speculate on the monorail.

Just monitoring what happens and will update again in one - two years here I guess if there are any news 🙂

I still believe in the next 10 years this project will happen hopefully 😄

@Lakegenevecatching up a bit on our discussion we had the last 2 years.

Study is done and now waiting for cabinet approval. You were right it takes a long time haha 2029 is planned so 2030 or so is realistic for this new line https://www.railjournal.com/passenger/light-rail/bangkoks-bang-na-suvarnabhumi-lrt-feasibility-study-completed/

Living in the area around that line I still think this line will be used a lot especially because it will connect the airport in the last phase.

Update 2024 regarding the Railway Bang Na to the Airport...

    https://www.thaipbs.or.th/news/content/336971

Bangkok announced the cancellation of the construction project for 3 electric train routes "Silver Line - Gray Line - Blue Line" due to insufficient budget and wanting to return it to the government to do it themselves. To connect to the future common ticket system with other electric train lines

In the end Bangkok gives the responsibility for this project back to the Ministry of Transport so they have to use their budget and not Bangkok's Budget 😄 As a lot of the line is anyways in Samut Prakan I was wondering who takes care of the whole project.

Not the best news in another article I read that the studies suggested that the passenger demand will only be high enough if the line ends at the airport which was planned in a later stage of the project and not from the beginning.

While I still think the line is needed and would have a great demand (ending at the airport) this will be all postponed now and I don't see this line opening before 2032 or so if ever.

  3. Yeah super disappointed that no one distributes this Ooni ovens in Thailand... you really need to bring it by yourself or risk big import taxes when shipping it here (which I wouldn't risk made already bad experience here with crazy high import taxes)

Great stuff once someone distributes it I will also get me one and that propane conversion which seems to get better results.

Till then Gallery Pizza and others have to just send me some good pizza via Delivery 😄 and my Weber bbq has to make me some Cheeseburgers.

Do you know what mate, it may not be a bad idea. I can live pretty much anywhere and if I am forced to relocate on the back of a technicality then so be it.

how I make MY money is nobodies business but my own. If the Thai government wants to stick their grubby little hands into my pocket for whatever reason then I will be out of here faster than you can say noodle soup!!

And I tell you most of us are thinking the same. Yes we may all love Thailand and living here is still good (was better before Covid and the whole inflation on groceries) ... but it's replaceable by other countries in SEA ????

    Indeed.

the article seems more aimed at Thais earning income abroad than foreigners bringing money in.

Point is... even if it's not targeting foreigners. It makes the whole process a lot more headache and most probably paperwork heavy. This will not attract money to invest into the country like real-estate. Maybe a lot of exceptions coming though e.g. for all Chinese? ????

The Real Estate lobby will make a statement soon on this topic wait for it ???? they already afraid now to loose customers.

The reporting is very unclear. 15 or 17? Who knows whether him or his friend chose the 15 year old and which settled for the 17 year old. It's a pretty disgusting predicament for a man in his late 50's to be found in either way IMO.

Given his level of wealth and the history of the Thai police force, it doesn't take a genius to see how he could have avoided being charged.

It's not the type of behaviour that elicits sympathy from me.

Yeah exactly what I am trying to say... there is a reason this report is there and the sympathy for this guy is near 0 for me.

So you think a man in his late 50's with a 17 year old (who may have actually been 15) is OK?

Let's agree to disagree on that one.

No it's totally not okay and the media does a super bad job not even mentioning the stuff that happened 2018. Even if he didn't get convicted he got questioned and was present at a minor trafficking raid.

  8. Can someone explain me why no News outlet writes about this? https://www.pattayamail.com/news/2-foreign-pedophiles-thai-pimp-nabbed-pattaya-trafficking-bust-203448

2018... Police arrested Hans Peter Walter Mack and Omarath Kathueay for human trafficking of minors. Police arrested a German national and a Thai ...

It's an easy google search. Motive? No idea but that Mack guy was definitely not a great good awesome guy.

Sorry not sure exactly what you are asking but some details here -

    https://fr.april-international.com/sites/france/files/2022-12/MyHealth International_Brochure_2023.pdf

    Start at page 5

Thanks this helps. Everyone should checkout your comparison. Opens my eyes now how it works.

Literally when you insure yourself in Thailand you often end up with LMG. (You can also go directly to LMG but seems more expensive)

The international ones are the interesting ones you want to get before you get old ????

How - using AA Insure brokers and paying and communicating direct to April International in France - premium could have been in Euros or USD.

How much more expensive........ will obviously depend on which cover you take out (more than one plan), what options and deductibles if any, your own medical history......and most importantly your age.

If it helps these comparisons are from 2021 when I looked at changing my provider so are quite a bit out of date. Fairly easy I would have thought if you really want to get in touch and request updated information.....

Although I would say thanks to AA Insure for facilitating my initial search the responsibility still lies with the individual to read all of the small print on the various Ts and Cs. In fact no need to use a broker if you feel so disinclined ............

    Thanks for this.

For long-term it seems smart to go with the European version of the same plan.

Can you tell me which areas this covers? Thailand Zone 3 (NL, BE, FR, VN, LA, MM, PH, UK, NO, etc)

Not true in my case - April International and definitely not April Thailand.

A friend is with Cigna UK, definitely not Thailand, and a previous poster ( @jerrymahoney ) appears to have been with UK via Belgium.....

AA Insure, the brokers, last time I asked, had 2 comparitive spreadsheets of insurer details with one sheet quoting International based and one Thailand based. Both sheets contained April, Luma and others with different levels of cover and premiums.

Other posters on here in the past have expressly suggested taking out insurance with an International based plan for several reasons. One of which is that they tend to offer cover until you stop paying whereas some Thai based stop at 70,75 or whatever.

So there is April Thailand and April International?

April Thailand goes via LMG INSURANCE PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED, which by the way also Luma uses and I think Aetna too?

How did you get April International and how much more expensive is it?

My invoices/letter all show April International.. still it's via LMG

  12. Want to give my opinion to this with some years experience in TH.

    1. If you have a nice insurance from your home country for some years and you can keep it while you here ... keep it. I had for example a long-term travel insurance for the first 3 years. The European ones are still the best imo.

    2. But after you stay longer here you need to check around and you get some insurance in Thailand and there it goes... the trustworthy party ????

    --
Luma does good. Had no problems with them.

April feels better, because they still based in Europe and you get some advantages traveling to Europe

Aetna (Bupa) was also okay.. just checked they have also some good plans now but quite expensive.

Allianz and Cigna is when you don't care about money. Allianz world-wide care is ofc the gold standard imo BUT super expensive.

    ---

Am i right that most plans go via LMG insurance in the end and April, Luma, Aetna just the brokers? It's this one big insurance company?

  14. yeah they work wonders no idea why to be honest. Seems to be a better technology than Repeaters.

For newcomers that don't have a mesh setup yet.. just check first with AIS or True if they offer a package with free (rentable) units. I paid 0 THB for my mesh devices with AIS and the package wasn't that much more expensive per month for 24 months. I think in 2-3 years it will be the standard if you living in a bigger apartment or house.

I have Netgear routers and satellites set up in my house, and they work very well. 500mb speeds throughout the house on wifi.

This just appears to be a glorified router, with a fancy name.

I would disagree slightly. I also invested into better Routers and Repeaters even bought a super expensive repeater for 12.000 THB or so... nothing really helped much.

Mesh Wifi seems really more stable. Was my last option and it worked well.
