  1. I am myself interested how this thing will turn out for KevinB.

It is not always very clear what visa KevinB uses to enter LOS, and then again he is not a newbie to this country either when I read his messages.

We all know that you have to be flexible in Thailand and info from immigration can vary from office to office. Could it not be that he indeed obtaines and operates with Non-O-Visas (multiple or single) from the Thai Embassy in Nigeria? I am referring here i.e. to post #54 where everybody would assume that we are talking about a Tourist Visa.

I write this because I once received a Non-O-Visa for three entries from a Swiss Thai Consulate and when I mentioned this here everybody incl. the experts on this forum said that this is not possible, but it is.

  2. I have a Multiple Non-O-Visa to be utilized before 30th October this year. At present I am in Europe and will return to Issan on 25th October and therefore pick up my last 90 days.

I am also planning in future to extend/change above visa and this based on retirement. In order and for travelling reasons that the yearly visa extension procedure could be done during February/March each year at my local immigration office of course, I intend to get a first time extension of 60 days on above Non-O-Visa based on 777/2551 art. 2.24 with proof of wife's ID, Khor2, marriage certificate and yellow book, etc.

    Questions are and please advise:

    1. Is my plan feasible and can my 60-day extension be done at Chaeng Wattana Immigration in Bangkok
    2. Can I do it on the same day I arrive or should I better do it just before my 90 days expire?
    3. If granted when I arrive, what about reporting? Will I be given a slip to report the 90 days to BKK?

    Thank you.

  3. In all honesty what you would do?

The committee overseeing the report tells you that you could not pass. Reason: you copied from another person and even mentions in their written decision the name of that person who by the way submitted at the same time. However, you have never ever known respectively been in touch with that person. And in the same decision the committee tells you, that if you want to resubmit, you would have to acknowledge.

I am not looking for Farang related remarks/advice, but only for a lawyer (law office), procedures and/or people familiar with and specializing in the Thai Education System to fight such blatant nonsense and injustice.

  4. I do not fully understand the Thai Education System either, but throer and adenai seem to be pretty close what I mean. Such a report has nothing to do with e.i. a MA.

The procedure for such a report is as follow:

    1. The applicant (my girl) appears before a committee, in fact the committee checks her quality, what she is doing as a teacher in her job and whether she is suitable to go to a higher level

    2. The committee then decides whether the applicant is qualified to apply and go to a seminar

    3. After that the applicant goes to a seminar for 5 days

    4. At the seminar the applicant receives a certificate if successful

    5. If above points are fully met, the applicant then submits the report in question (her report incl. statistics consisted of about 400 pages all in all). Such a report is also called and known as Vijai (not

    sure about the spelling)

My girl has a bachelor in social and actually teaches at the level of Kru Chan Nan Gan (hope I spelled that right). With the report that she submitted about one and a half year ago and had she been accepted, she could have reached a higher level, which subsequently means more money and has an effect upon her pension too.

If my girl had been successful and allowed to that higher level, she then could apply for another last higher level, which is the top level allowed for Thai teachers.

    Hope that clarifies.

P.S. Even in Thailand one cannot always give in and just acknowledge lies. But I do know what face in Thailand means and as a prudent guy I also informed my Embassy (Ambassador) in Bangkok accordingly about this Adminstrative Court case should anything unexpected occur. And those who think that for a Thai officer to change a teaching job from one city to another is just a piece of cake, I have to say that he probably does not know what numbers are going to change hands for such intentions.

  5. My lady has been a teacher (social subject) and officer for almost 30 years. She submitted approx. one and a half years ago a report to the Head Office overlooking her school to reach a higher level (degree). She got blatantly refused that to her rather sounds as though it is an issue of politics and not of principle.

She is fighting the verdict of the provincial Head Office and put the case a while ago before an Administrative Court in the North East and a preliminary assessment of the court looks like my lady will prevail, but the definite written ruling is not yet known.

After talks and counselling with people from an Administrative Court in another province and for the fact that the Administrative Court now in charge may not be able to address all the details of the case itself, my lady even thinks to put this case before another/higher (Civil Court???) and even ask for redemption.

What we are looking for is a lawyer (law office) that could represent this case before the right court and who is aware of the Thai Education System and knowledgeable enough about schools, teachers and related matters. We are also looking to get in touch with people who may lead us in the right direction how this matter could be dealt with at best. We are not sure but believe to meet a preliminary deadline of early August this year.

Thank you for any input whatsoever.

  6. Please be informed that as of last September people with a Swiss or Luxembourg passport only do not need a visa for Laos anymore, if they do not stay longer than 14 days (officially documented by the Laos Consulate, Schwyz (Switzerland).

All you have to do is to ask for the Laos Arrival/Departure card, fill it out, present it together with your passport to the border officer (maybe you even have to insist) and then you will be stamped in for 14 days like the Laos Stamp to Stay dated 12/03/2010 on the left hand side of below attachment shows.

The common tourist visa valid for 30 days at the usual cost is though still available.

At the same time everybody going to Laos should be informed that a so called exit fee (not my terminology but as such advertised at the border in Vientiane) you have to pay is THB 10. Whereas at the friendship crossing Nong Khai/Ventiane you will be given a ticket for the THB 10 paid, at the crossing in Mukda Han/Savannahket there is no such ticket and officers may ask you for whatever they are up to. Myself, I always tell these Savannakhet guys that it is THB 10 only and then they smile and the let me in.

  7. Friend of mine lives in Kalasin with his wife and a still valid Multiple Non-O-Visa. He also has a Yellow Tabian Ban. He has no intention to leave his home base in Kalasin as permanent address.

However, he now wants to buy a motorbike in Pattaya and have the bike registered there in his name and running it with Pattaya number plates.

The Land Transport Office in Pattaya told him in order to register, he would not only have to bring along papers from the Pattaya motorbike vendor, but also his passport with visa, the departure card, Thai motocy driving licence, 2 pictures and (now it comes) apart from the Yellow Tabian Baan go to Mukda Han immigration office and get a resident paper from them.

I was always of the opinion that the Yellow Tabian Baan serves as a replacement for above immigration resident letter and could be used instead. What is fact and what is really needed?

    Thanks for your detailed answers.

  8. As follow-up to my initial message I want to be fair and tell you that TT&T MaxNET has put its plugs back again. The download speed has resumed for the last hour at a constant 213 KB/s. I downloaded from the US and from Europe and used OpenDNS as always and did not change a single byte on my settings.

    But for how long?

  9. My 2 cents: Don’t change your computer settings, since TT&T MaxNET has some really serious problems whatever these are.

I am not a newbie and I have had the chance this morning to attack a 1.3 GB file with a download manager in North Carolina (US). In the past the download speed was a constant 230 KB/s with my 2 MB “Premier” subscription and now it varies from 2 to max. 27 KB/s at most. A 45 min. test didn’t bring better values. Links to central Europe are just as bad and the rain crap/excuse is nonsense.

My position is about 100 km south of Khon Kaen (North East). I changed last October from lousy TOT to this company and I now fear that this could be the prelude of future Internet experience in Thailand.

Though my lady was called in to the local office to sign some papers, you can imagine what I told her to do and will stay put until things get restored

  10. Heading to the 3rd month of "updating" now.

Isn't it just easier to tell the truth here?

Thanks, you just speak my mind. I dont want to compare this with politics or discuss this from a money point of view, but something is really fishy with this Lo Fi Version "updating" scenario.

If you mods are professionals enough then speak up now, tell the truth and let us have a timetable we all really can count on. We now dont want to hear stories about the software vendor, testing and what else you may find exusable.

  11. ..... a new virus in his flash drive that he uses for school........

I dont want to generalize, but it also does not surprise me that virus from computers in Thai schools and/or Internet places can be caught quite easily.

When I go to print shops up here to have something scanned or printed, each time I return home my USB stick is virus infected.

So far I have been lucky as Norton always did the job......

  12. TOT Goldcyber in Isaan 100 KB/s download speed these days......

When I compare this crap with speed and prices in my home land then I realize that Thai Internet is far too expensive up here in Isaan and does not offer anything comparable, and it is no exaggeration to say that Thai Internet is still about 20 years back (see DSL Standard package for approx. THB 1500/monthly)

  13. If using a combination of income plus bank deposit. The money does not have to be in the bank for 3 months.

    (5) Annual income plus bank

    account deposit totaling not less

than Baht 800,000 as of the

    filing date of application

You need 800,000 for 3 months OR a combination of a letter & some cash. Reread what litebeer said on that topic.

I read Lite Beers quote a dozen times.

The fine line for me is/was that when I combine Income + Money in the Bank one can beat the 3 months, actually according provision (5) the remaining THB 560'000 as per my example would have to be in the bank as of the filing date of application only.

Well, I also know that above is dealt differently from immigration to immigration, and then again above very clearly makes me to understand what I just mentioned.

  14. If using a combination of income plus bank deposit. The money does not have to be in the bank for 3 months.

    (5) Annual income plus bank

    account deposit totaling not less

The letter from the Embassy is usually enough, but always a good idea to have proof just in case asked.

    Thanks Lite Beer, learned something.

So if I have somewhere $ 100000 invested at fix 8% (exchange rate approx. 30), I get a Income Letter from my Embassy about the THB 240'000 Income and move in the missing THB 560'000 (maybe a little bit more) just one week before my application?

  15. You know I really envy you. I leave mine turned off many days intentionally.

But I think if it were discovered, you could go to jail in Thailand for not having at least one mobile phone.

Sorry, English is not my native language. What are you saying here? You leave your mobile turned off on purpose, correct?

You also say, if i.e. as an example the police were to discover this, one could go to jail.

Sorry maybe I am too dumb, or are you joking? Does that mean if I exchange my Thai SIM card with an European SIM card for 6 months while abroad I could run into trouble when returning and for what reason?

  16. ... and I want to warn those people who extend either with money in the bank or an income letter in Mukda Han (NorthEast), the lady officer up there now firmly requires (and she says it now has become law) a medical certificate as well as a map showing the applicants residence.

The last 10 days 3 applicants from different countries were forced to do that.

  17. By gosh, you should listen to powerposters and people who have something to say. And Crossy is definitely right. If you go in person to Hull, call them the previous day to make an appointment (very important!). Fill in the forms 3+6+7 of their application package.

Attached you will see what my post-24939-1220424838_thumb.jpg (form sheet 3) looked like. Instead of “Visit Wife” you write “Visit Friends”. The Non-O-Visa costs £ 100, if you go there in person it will cost an additional £ 10 and you are done in 10 min, with no questions asked.

If I can get a visa there (my 2nd consecutive Non-O-Visa from Hull) as a none-EU citizen, then I assume hat you as a Brit should have no difficulties either.
