  2. There are a few of us who often go to the Califare Coffee Place along side of the lake by the Rim Pao Hotel / Park in the afternoons... There is a Farang Food Restrurant on a small Soi just down the road from the Chinese Watt... Mostly has German food, but excellent Pizza's and the owner is a nice guy...

    Pianoman

Thanks for the Farang food place tip, this is always appreciated....

  3. and to add, the Lao allow citizens of Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, The Philipines, Malaysia Japan and Russia visa free entry, I'm not entirely sure about the duration, but I do know Vietnamese, Cambodians and Thais get 30 days.

......if they have a passport, otherwise they (the Thais) will get 2 days only on just the Thai ID.

And to WI Steve I would say...... DO NOT WORRY!

  4. From what i understand is this. I bank with Kasikorn at Siam Square. If i was to use my ATM card in another area, say Pattaya for instsance, i would be charged 20bht, even if i used another Kasikorn Bank. When i used my UK atm card however, Kasikorn atm did print that i have not been charged for the servie.

Krung Thai, the government bank charges THB 20 when using their ATM card with a different bank and THB 10 when withdrawing money from their counter in a different region.

  5. Hi all,

Due to the nature of my work i currently have two UK passports, however due to unforseen circumstances i am currently in LOS on the wrong one. Basically i have an unused multientry Non-O visa dated from June in my other passport, but am here in country on a 28 day stamp.

I know i could fly out on the current stamp and re-enter on the Non-O but is possible/advisable to do this on a border run to Cambodia?

    Cheers!

From a logical standpoint and if I am not right others will certainly correct me, you will have to leave Thailand physically and make a so-called border run to a neighbouring country, i.e. get stamped out with your passport that carries the 28 day stamp.

After that you enter again Thailand with the passport that carries your Non-O-Visa.

  6. Why not do the extension at Korat? I do.

    Much more pleasant.

I am not concerned with extensions.

Lite Beer, may I ask you why have you not yet tried Mukda Han, the other pain in NorthEast, which to me seems closer that Korat? And second, have you done your extensions always in Korat, i.e your personal file was there right from the beginning?

  7. Would there be an issue if you posted your docs to a family member, who forwarded them onto Hull, who then returned them to your family address, and finally a family member sent them back to Thailand?

I do not want to get personal or to tell you what to do. I only want to make it clear, that above is BS visa practice and illegal. Maybe others can give you the details much better.

And to those people who still think that above can be done, I would only suggest that they start to ponder what effect such malpractice may have towards all those people who do it right and want to stay legal in LOS.

  8. I investigated a bit further and found this which leads me to following questions:

    1. Is this law indeed in effect? Yes or no.

    2. Would this married couple with no kids stand a chance to insist upon a so-called grandfather clause (not in terms of money but continuity), since Mukda Han granted them their 2nd extension on THB 800’000 only in the bank on 16.10.07 and this after the new order had already been in place?

    3. On top of above, can Mukda Han insist upon additional money in terms of an Embassy Income Letter?

    4. Given their present visa status, would it be wise for this couple to somehow “downgrade” to a Multiple Non-O-Visa from a Thai consulate in their homeland and do border runs in the future?

    Thanks.

  9. This is serious matter! I just learned from my good Kiwi friends that Mukda Han Immigration is again changing visa laws at their will.

Married Kiwi couple (Farang/Farang), he 61, her 48, both with Kiwi passport, went to Mukda Han on June 30 to do their 90 days report and enquired at the same time about their forthcoming 3rd consecutive Non-O-Visa Extension based on THB 800’000 in a Thai Bank.

They were told, and this is not a joke, that as of now following requirements are in place:

    - THB 1’600’000 in a Thai Bank for 3 months (instead of THB 800’000 as so far)

    - on top of above money an Income Letter from Kiwi Embassy (immigration lady officer however could not state amount required)

    - a Medical Certificate from a local hospital

    - Photos of them as a couple and the house they live in

I indeed feel frustrated about above and ask myself what is going on in LOS.

What should this couple do? What other options does this couple really have?

Many thanks to all you posters.

  10. Actually forgot to tell you that the passport picture will be taken at the office where she will have to apply for the passport in Khon Kaen.

  11. Come on, you do have to go to BKK to have your lady's picture taken. Sorry I cannot give you a specific street address, but you or she will find many professional

photoshops in Khon Kaen who do that.

  12. Hi Guys

I am going to get a retirement visa from the Thai Embassy in London ( I hope) and wonder if anybody knows for sure if its just a tum up between 9.30-12.30 as the website site says ie no appointment

If so any experience of how busy it is I am just a little nervous I could travel to London and then not be seen

Also anybody know if successful whether the passport can be mailed back or if it has to be personally picked up

    Cheers

I would suggest that you better use the services of the Thai consulates of Hull and Birmingham instead of the embassy in London.

Google after Hull consulate and you will notice their easy procedure to get a visa.

Hull has that mail service you are looking for....

  13. How can one change ones One-2-Call tariff to one-year duration, so that the top-up amount is good for one year, rather than one or two weeks? Tried their webpage, but all info is in Thai only.

Either you call them (they have an English speaking service) or you visit their offices.

Be careful when you change, they do have quite a few plans and all differ from each other. Changing to the one year plan may also change the rates.

  14. Hi

Should be a quick one for you clever guys out there.

I bought a HP desktop that came with Windows Vista Starter pre-installed on it.

I have Windows XP pro and want to install that on my new PC. When I put the CD in the first option to Install XP is greyed out so I cannot click and install XP.

I've tried booting from the CD but the PC just starts up as normal (after pressing any key to boot from CD).

Any ideas how I can get the first option active so that I can install XP?

    Thanks

    Mick

The problem is that your current OEM XP SP1 or SP2 operating software CD does not incorporate the S-ATA drivers that you very likely need for your new system.

I understand your problem and even after making within BIOS my CD-drive the first drive to boot, I was just not able to partition, format or install XP on my new system.

How did I solve the problem? I used the software nLite and incorporated the S-ATA drivers into a so-called slipstream-copy (bootable CD) comprising my legitimate XP Pro SP2, above S-ATA drivers, the recently released Service Pack3 and also a few other items.

You have to google after nLite and study that software within their forum, but I am sure you will be excited about it as well.

  15. I currently have multiple non 0 visa which was issued in Sept. last year. However, i iwill be back in Uk in July and want to have new visa issued. I think the old one can be cancelled an a new one issued in its place - is this correct?

    thanks :o

You don't need to cancel the old visa, just apply for a new one and use it instead. I've had overlapping visas, you need to point out the new one to immigration however.

It is better to have 2 visas than none. You can always re-enter Thailand with the old visa, but as a matter of fact it does not change anything at all.

  16. Are Ranong Immigration making things up as they go along? Last year to prove the money, the wage/pension slips were not enough. I ended up having to get confirmation from my ex employers, and embassy. When I got the stamp they said next year no problem, very easy and quick. I have just been down, and in the last 3 months the staff have changed. Result I am again jumping through the same hoops, with yet another trip to Bangkok. Also they said it was not a combined income of 40000 income, but 40000/month from me.

Another thing, she said I could go to the Club Andaman Casino on a border run and get a 90 stamp when I got back in Thailand. :o

Family Extension as I understand it do ask for a combined Income of THB 40000 per month by you and your wife. In other words the before-mentioned amount can consist of your Embassy Income Letter (monies coming from abroad) and your and your wife’s taxable income within Thailand. Now, figure out by yourself.

I am not familiar with Andaman Casino, maybe the officer meant that as a married man to a Thai you could get a single Non-O-Visa from a nearby consulate which would be valid for 90 days.

  17. HELP: I have a 1 Year 'O' Multiple Entry Visa, my first 90 days is due...Do I have to apply for a Re-entry Visa.

Help; Are Border runs safe/ Do I have to apply for a Cambodian Visa BEFORE I do the 'Border Run' or they issued on arrival.

Would I be better off flying to Vietnam for a week and doing it all there. Your advice would be greatly appreciated...so many conflicting stories to deal with.

    Cheers :o

Do not worry at all, making a border run is just not a big deal. Do that border crossing at the nearest place where you actually live. You do not have to go as far as Vietnam. You do not have to buy a Re-Entry permit either, because Multiple entitles you to as many entries as you wish.

Take your passport with the Multiple Non-O-Visa and the Arrival Card and leave Thailand at i.e. Aranyaprathet-Poipet latest on the day of your Stamp to Stay date. Thai immigration officers will then stamp you out of Thailand. After that you proceed to Cambodia Immigration (at the border crossing itself) and buy there a Cambodian Visa and get then stamped in into Cambodia. I am pretty sure that with US dollars or Thai bath you can buy such a visa. Once that is done you make a straight U-turn to the other side of the street and leave Cambodia again, i.e. get stamped out of Cambodia and come straight back to Thailand. If you wish you can also stay in Cambodia for a day or two.

You do not have to go to any embassy whatsoever. Check if your new Thai Stamp to Stay carries the correct date when you enter Thailand again (it is 90 days from the start date to the end date, both start and end date included). I have not been to Cambodia yet, but if you want it really very safe and easy you can do that crossing in the north either at Nong Khai or Mudkda Han.

  18. Lite Beer, your posting brings up an interesting situation; namely, if a retiree can show an income, no matter how nominal, with the remainder of the 800,000 baht being made up by a deposit in a Thai bank, then that deposit does not need to be in the account for 3 months. The only question that would then need to be addressed, is, how small can that income be to satisfy immigration? Comments anyone?

This is an interesting point and still I think that the amount is at the discretion of the immigration officer.

But for my understanding is it correct that i.e. as a new applicant I would bring along for such a visa an Income Letter from my Embassy for the equivalent of THB 5000 (THB 60000 per year). The remaining THB 740000 I would just move into my bank account 1 day before my application?

  19. do they issue multi entry marriage visa in vientiane,Laos ?

The last two years I have not encountered nor heard of anybody (single or married to a Thai) who got a Multiple Non-O-Visa from Vientiane or Savannakhet. Single entry has been the best one could get.

Please prove me wrong, I would be the first to jump on such an opportunity.

  20. As Lite Beer said, get from your Immigration office a so-called resident paper (tell them for what you need it) and from any clinic a medical certificate (costs 40 THB in Isaan) and with that paperwork you go to the local Land Transportation office and they only will issue you a Thai drivers licence valid for one year and renewable for 5 years after that one year period. Take the driving licence from your home country with you. You may get the licence it without a test, and in case the ask you for a test it is really not a big deal. TIT.

  21. Silly question. Can somebody tell me how to get rid of that NeroBackItUpKeyScanUtility button (black square button on Info Tray bar) as per post-24939-1213779427_thumb.jpg

I just cannot find the uncheck box within Nero BackItUp. Thanks.
