  2. Photo courtesy of Amphika Giew / Facebook via The Phuket News By Puntid Tantivangphaisal A hungry foreign tourist made an unforgettable entrance into a dim sum restaurant in Chalong in Phuket yesterday driving his motorbike straight into the eatery and causing a stir on social media. CCTV footage captured the bizarre moment yesterday, January 15, as the tourist lost control of his bike, crashing into a parked motorcycle and a table at Mangmee Dim Sum, which was bustling with customers at the time. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the damage was minor. The incident quickly gained online fame after Facebook user Amphika Giew shared the footage, cheekily captioning it, “Whenever you’re hungry, stop by.” The post went viral, sparking a wave of playful comments. “The food must be so delicious you can’t stop.” “No need to fight over a table like that!” Some commenters praised the tourist’s politeness, noting his traditional Thai wai as an immediate apology. “The wai is beautiful, good that no one got hurt.” The restaurant owner, far from holding a grudge, shared her understanding of the tourist’s embarrassment. “He was embarrassed and sorry. I don’t hold a grudge.” Despite the chaos, the unexpected incident has brought a burst of attention to the modest dim sum shop, reported The Phuket News. “A grand entrance like that deserves a round of applause!” Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-01-16

  4. Photo courtesy of The Nation By Puntid Tantivangphaisal Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra prepared for a visit to Thailand’s southern Muslim-majority provinces by practising the universal Islamic greeting, “as-salaam alaykum” (peace be upon you), aboard an air force helicopter. Assisted by Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong, the PM repeated the greeting several times to perfect her pronunciation. “I practised this earlier too, but I want to get it just right.” The greeting, widely used among Muslim communities, holds cultural significance in the southern border provinces. The 38 year old PM was joined by an entourage of top officials, including Deputy PM and Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy PM and Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit, and National Police Chief Police General Kitrat Phanphet. Their one-day mission aimed to engage with local communities and address pressing development issues in Narathiwat, Yala, and Pattani. Initially, the itinerary included stops in all three provinces. However, due to heavy rainfall, the helicopter was unable to land in Pattani. Justice Minister Tawee informed the Thai premier of the change, saying, “The weather makes it unsafe to proceed.” In Pattani, PM Paetongtarn had planned to visit the marine police pier in Mueang district’s Ru Samilae area, meet with fishing boat operators, and oversee projects like dredging waterways and providing soft loans to small businesses. Despite the weather setback, she focused on engaging with residents in Narathiwat and Yala, reported The Nation. Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-01-16

  6. Photo via Channel 7 By Petch Petpailin A Thai woman is seeking justice after her drug-addicted, unfaithful husband brutally abused and forced her to shave her head. The man reportedly denied her request for a divorce and even sent pictures and videos of himself having sex with his mistress to his wife. Chalida Palamart, founder of the Be One organisation, assisted the 29 year old woman, named Onn, and accompanied her to Bang Pakong Police Station yesterday, January 15 to file a complaint against her husband, 33 year old Kittichai. During the interrogation, Onn revealed that she married Kittichai four years ago and had been suffering from physical abuse ever since. Kittichai often accused her of cheating on him but she had never been unfaithful. Onn stated that Kittichai was also addicted to drugs and gambling. He would assault her when under the influence of drugs or after losing in gambling games. He also damaged her cars to fund his addictions. The latest assault occurred on October 24 last year. Kittichai accused Onn of flirting with his friend and brutally attacked her. He then handed her a razor and forced her to shave her head, saying he did not want her to look attractive so she could not have any lovers. Explicit messages Onn decided to leave their shared home the following day, October 25, and moved in with her family in the Isaan province of Sakon Nakhon. However, her abusive husband followed her there and continued to harass her. He also tortured her pet dog until she could no longer stand it and fled to hide in Pattaya. Despite the couple not being divorced, Kittichai began a relationship with a new woman. Kittichai’s lover then messaged Onn, asking her to divorce Kittichai, which Onn agreed to. They arranged a meeting to finalise the divorce but Kittichai unexpectedly refused to sign the document. He demanded that Onn pay him 200,000 baht if she wanted the divorce. Kittichai’s new girlfriend continued to send pictures and videos of herself having sex with Kittichai to Onn. The victim sought a divorce from Kittichai multiple times but he ignored her request. Once, when Onn texted Kittichai about the divorce, he refused to engage with her, saying he was having sex and sending explicit pictures to her. Kittichai was summoned to the police station yesterday to discuss the divorce. Police acted as mediators in the agreement but officers have not yet updated whether the couple managed to resolve the issue. Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-01-16

  8. Jamie Kilcourse in action. Picture courtesy of Facebook By Bob Scott A former footballer from Liverpool confessed he deeply regrets smuggling drugs from Thailand after quitting the professional game to allegedly look after his cancer-stricken grandparents. The former Tranmere Rovers footballer was arrested by immigration police while transferring through customs at Manchester Airport. Jamie Kilcourse, returning from a holiday in Bangkok with friends, was stopped by Border Force officers upon arrival at Manchester Airport on October 8 last year. Carrying two heavy suitcases, he initially claimed they were packed by him and denied holding them for anyone else. However, the truth quickly unravelled when officers discovered 64 vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis weighing a staggering 38.78 kilogrammes. In a moment of clarity, the 21 year old confessed to a court yesterday, January 15, that he hadn’t been honest. “I didn’t pack the suitcases.” The court heard how Kilcourse had left his budding career in League Two football behind to care for his cancer-stricken grandmother and grandfather. “My mum and dad couldn’t afford to take time off work, so I stepped down from my career.” Despite a life clear of substance abuse, Kilcourse sought solace in Thailand after the death of his grandmother and his parents’ split. “I was mentally not right. I went with my mates to take some time and get my head off things.” The former footballer then found himself intertwined with a friend’s drug debt, which he took upon himself to settle. “My mate’s only 18, and I felt responsible to take it on. Looking back, I should never have got myself in it. I deeply regret that.” While Thailand, Kilcourse found himself pressured by some Scouse lads who were supposedly owed money. Mistaking a suitcase full of drugs for money, Kilcourse agreed to transport it, unaware of its content. Kilcourse maintained that he received “not one penny” for his trouble and expressed feeling “sickened” upon realising the gravity of the situation. Suspended sentence His barrister, Katie Walden, highlighted Kilcourse’s remorse and potential for rehabilitation, advocating for a suspended sentence. “He wants to go back to playing football or coaching,” she said, urging for a sentence that was not “a get out of jail free card.” Manchester Evening News reported that Judge Timothy Smith handed Kilcourse a ten-month sentence, suspended for 18 months, alongside an order to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and participate in 10 days of rehabilitation activities. “You are somebody a lot of people speak well of,” the judge remarked. “Do not be tempted to involve yourself in this again, because you know what the consequences are.” Kilcourse’s tale serves as a cautionary reminder of the dangers of poor decisions and misplaced loyalties, leaving the ex-footballer with much more than a red card on his record. 10. Photo via Facebook/ เดียร์ลอง By Petch Petpailin A famous Thai OnlyFans content creator announced her retirement from the industry, citing the effects of her work and netizens’ comments on her mental health. The 29 year old OnlyFans star, Arisa “Kwang” Siangluecha, better known as Deerlong, is one of Thailand’s most popular creators of adult content. She typically collaborated with her boyfriend, Earth, to produce sexually explicit material shared via her OnlyFans channel. In addition to her adult content, Kwang is also well-known for her game streaming videos, ASMR content, and singing talent. She first gained public attention for her Disney song performances on Thailand’s Got Talent. Today, January 16, Kwang took to her official Facebook page to announce her decision to retire from the adult content industry. In part of her statement, Kwang said… “Recently, being a sex content creator has affected my mental health. Even though this career does not harm anyone, it has taken a toll on my personality after doing it for a while. “I have felt the impact on my mental health after reading sexually explicit comments on all my social media posts, even when the posts were unrelated to such topics. “I am scared that people will forget the other things I’ve achieved beyond creating adult content. I want to step back to a place where I feel comfortable.” OnlyFans content continues Kwang acknowledged that much of her previous content had been stolen and shared freely, particularly on gambling websites, and admitted there was little she could do to stop this. She accepted that her work would remain part of her digital footprint and said she would treat it as a lesson and an example for others. She also clarified to her OnlyFans subscribers that she would continue sharing content on the platform, but it would be limited to sexy images and videos. Explicit sexual or nude content would no longer be part of her channel. Two years ago, Kwang sought justice after her content was stolen and distributed for free. However, her attempt to take legal action almost led to her own prosecution, as creating and sharing explicit content is considered illegal in Thailand. Following this legal trouble, Kwang and her boyfriend moved to the Netherlands, where they could legally produce adult content. However, in her recent announcement, Kwang explained that they decided to return to Thailand as they found life in the Netherlands did not suit them. At the end of the statement, Kwang acknowledged that some people might find her decision to retire from the adult content industry ridiculous and said she understood their perspective. She expressed her gratitude to her followers for their support and encouragement in her decision. Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-01-16

  12. Photo courtesy of Pattaya Mail By Puntid Tantivangphaisal Pattaya Beach, known for its stunning coastline and electrifying nightlife, is grappling with a surge in alcohol-fuelled brawls involving unruly tourists. Once a haven for relaxation and revelry, the iconic destination has seen a troubling rise in disruptive incidents, leaving locals and officials concerned about the city’s reputation. Reports reveal that drunken altercations have become an all-too-common sight, particularly after dark, in the bustling beach areas. Heated arguments, physical fights, and aggressive behaviours frequently disrupt the peace, posing safety risks to visitors and residents. Some clashes have escalated to the point of requiring police intervention, adding strain to Pattaya’s already overstretched law enforcement. The clashes are often concentrated near the beach’s lively bars, restaurants, and clubs, where the intoxicating mix of alcohol, loud music, and dense crowds fuels tempers. Tourists, emboldened by the party atmosphere, sometimes disregard local norms, further inflaming tensions. In response, local officials are stepping up efforts to curb the chaos. Police patrols have been increased in high-traffic areas, and stricter regulations on public alcohol consumption are being enforced. Discussions are also underway to establish designated drinking zones to keep the revelry contained, said a police spokesperson. “We rely heavily on tourism, but respect for the local environment and its people is essential to maintaining a welcoming and safe atmosphere for all.” While Pattaya’s vibrant nightlife remains a major draw, authorities are walking a tightrope between preserving the city’s allure and ensuring public safety, reported Pattaya Mail. As discussions on long-term solutions continue, the city is urging tourists to enjoy responsibly and remember the golden rule: “Party hard, but respect harder.” The “Party hard, but respect harder” theme was ignored last night as a Thai man attacked a Swiss tourist with a cue stick at a bar in Pattaya, accusing the foreigner of cheating during a game of pool. Rescuers from the Sawang Borriboon Dhammstan Foundation responded to the incident at a bar on Soi Khao Ta Lo in Bang Lamung district, Pattaya, on January 15, following reports of a physical altercation. Officers from Nong Prue Police Station later arrived at the scene. Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-01-16

  14. Photo via Sattahip News By Petch Petpailin Three Thai transwomen brutally attacked a Laotian woman in Pattaya earlier this week, accusing the victim of getting them fired from their jobs. A Laotian woman, identified only as Da, called on Thai news agencies to assist her in seeking justice after she was brutally assaulted on Pattaya Sai Song Road at 2.59am on Tuesday, January 14. The incident occurred just 200 metres from Mueang Pattaya Police Station. In an interview with the DailyNews, Da revealed that the group of transwomen previously worked at the same bar as her but had recently been dismissed. They reportedly disliked her because she was a foreign worker and believed she was responsible for them losing their jobs. Da firmly stated that the employer fired the transwomen due to their frequent disruptive behaviour and laziness, not because of her. According to Da, the transwomen sent threatening messages via the LINE application, including threats to report her to the police for working illegally. However, Da clarified that she entered and was working in Thailand legally, rendering their threats baseless. The threats escalated, with the transwomen sending her insults and vulgar messages, continuing to accuse her of reporting their poor behaviour to the employer. On the day of the attack, Da, who was on a day off, visited a bar near the scene of the incident. As she was on her way home, the attackers approached her and launched a violent assault. She nearly lost consciousness during the attack, but Thai and foreign witnesses intervened to stop the assault. CCTV footage of the incident showed the three transwomen slapping, kicking, and trampling Da even after she collapsed to the ground. The assailants fled the scene following the attack. Da alleged that the transwomen were known to evade arrest and claimed they previously attacked tourists on Pattaya Beach without facing consequences. Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-01-16

  16. Photo courtesy of The Pattaya News By Puntid Tantivangphaisal Thailand’s Immigration Bureau announced on Tuesday, January 14, the arrest of a 43 year old Dutch national for allegedly organising a gold scam in Bangkok. The suspect, named Ndille, is accused of deceiving customers by selling counterfeit gold pellets, claiming they were smuggled tax-free from Africa and offering them at below-market prices. Investigations uncovered that the suspect employed a sophisticated method, initially providing genuine gold samples to win trust before switching to fake gold during transactions. Victims were persuaded to make payments in US dollars, with typical transactions amounting to around US$55,000 (approximately 1.9 million baht). Police tracked the suspect to a hotel in the Watthana district, where they discovered 5 kilogrammes of fake gold alongside smaller bags containing genuine and counterfeit samples. Foreign currencies totalling approximately 117,600 baht were also seized. Evidence retrieved from the suspect’s phone indicated ongoing negotiations with multiple victims via WhatsApp. The arrest followed a report from one victim who became suspicious during a transaction at a shopping mall in the Phra Nakhon district. Immigration officials have since revoked Ndille’s visa, citing his fraudulent actions as damaging to Thailand’s reputation, and are making preparations for his deportation, reported The Pattaya News. Efforts are ongoing to locate accomplices and assist victims. Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-01-16

  18. File photo for reference only In an audacious border operation today, Thai police arrested Ji Hongli, a 36-year-old Chinese national, at Ban Dong Ngu, Pa Rai subdistrict of the Sa Kaeo province. The operation was spearheaded by Police Colonel Naphatphong Supaporn, alongside colleagues from the Immigration Bureau, Khlong Luek Police Station, and the Border Patrol Police Division. Ji Hongli claimed he was fleeing an attempt to be trafficked to Cambodia. His saga began when he allegedly arrived in Thailand before travelling to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. There, he worked in a KTV bar, making a modest $500 a month. However, his situation soured when a call centre gang allegedly duped him, leaving him penniless after a month's work. In desperation, Ji said he sought help from a Cambodian man who guided him to the Thai border, supposedly assisting him in returning to China. Thai police, however, weren't convinced by his narrative and charged him for illegal entry and residency in Thailand, casting doubt on Ji's tale. This incident highlights ongoing border security challenges and concerns over human trafficking in the region. Just last week, the Thai police made headlines by rescuing missing Chinese actor Wang Xing, who vanished near the Thai-Myanmar border. His disappearance mirrored the plot of a popular Chinese film, fuelling intrigue and concern. Authorities are now intensifying investigations into cross-border trafficking networks, vowing to dismantle these criminal operations and ensure safety for all within the region. -- 2025-01-16

  20. File photo for reference only The Thai Food and Drug Administration recently sounded the alarm over Pot K, a vape liquid laced with ketamine, which can be fatal. The substance's surge in nightlife venues has prompted intense scrutiny due to its dangerous implications and severe legal consequences. In a recent crackdown, police in Makkasan nabbed individuals peddling Pot K, following a warning by Dr Witit Srisuriyachayakul, Deputy Secretary General of the FDA. Ketamine, a Schedule 2 controlled substance in Thailand, is primarily an anaesthetic but is being illicitly used for its hallucinogenic properties. Misuse can lead to serious health issues such as seizures, brain hypoxia, and death, and can cause long-term dependence. Selling or possessing Pot K without the necessary permits can land individuals hefty fines of up to 1.5 million baht or prison sentences reaching 15 years. The penalties reflect the Thai authorities' stern stance against drugs, especially those infiltrating social hotspots like nightclubs in Bangkok. Ketamine misuse threatens public safety, as its unregulated distribution mainly occurs via online channels and nightclubs. Concurrently, agencies are convening to trace sources and cut the supply chain of these harmful substances. To combat this menace, the public is urged to report any dealings of Pot K to the FDA using their hotline or social media channels. Notably, a foreign national was recently detained, highlighting the ongoing efforts to curb the illicit Pot K network. Fast action and community vigilance look to play crucial roles in managing this emerging threat before it escalates further, assuring public health and safety remain paramount. -- 2025-01-16

  22. Photo via Facebook/ เหยี่ยวข่าว ตะวันออก and Channel 8 By Petch Petpailin Police arrested a Thai man for brutally assaulting a Thai woman on a road in the eastern province of Rayong. The man claimed he mistook the victim for a transwoman. The victim, Arisa, shared details of the brutal assault with the Facebook news page เหยี่ยวข่าว ตะวันออก (Heyiyw Khaw Tawan Xxk) following the incident, which occurred on Monday, January 13. The attack took place on a road along Moonlight Beach in Rayong. Arisa explained that she was riding her motorcycle to a restaurant near Moonlight Beach, where she works. While on the road, she heard a car repeatedly honking its horn behind her. In response, she pulled her motorcycle over to the side of the road to let the car pass her. A white Toyota Fortuner SUV then stopped in front of her motorcycle. The driver rushed out of the car and immediately attacked her. Arisa attempted to shield her face from the blows until the man stopped. Arisa thought the assault ended but it was only the start. The man launched further kicks and punches before fleeing the scene without saying a word. Two women who accompanied him in the SUV did not intervene in the attack. As a result of the attack, Arisa suffered bruising around her eyes, a wound near her right eyebrow, and scratches and bruises on her body. Boyfriend’s revenge Arisa stated that she did not know the attacker and had no prior conflicts with anyone. She suspected that a misunderstanding may have triggered the assault. She reported the incident to Mueang Rayong Police Station. The attacker was later identified as Siriphan and summoned to the police station yesterday, January 14. Upon seeing him, Arisa’s boyfriend, Nopphon, lost control and punched Siriphan in the face. Police officers reprimanded Nopphon and threatened him with legal action. Footage of this incident was widely shared by news outlets, garnering public support for Nopphon. Netizens criticised the police for seemingly protecting the attacker. Many commented that they would have reacted similarly if a loved one was assaulted. In an interview with Channel 8, Siriphan explained his reasons for the attack. “I thought the victim was another motorcycle rider who annoyed me previously. I don’t know why I attacked the woman. I didn’t realise she was a woman. I thought she was a transwoman. I regret my actions and am willing to compensate her.” His remarks sparked further outrage, with many asserting that no one deserves to be physically assaulted, regardless of their gender. The report did not specify the legal punishment issued against Siriphan. Under Section 295 of the Criminal Code, physically assaulting another person can result in imprisonment of up to two years, a fine of up to 40,000 baht, or both. Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-01-16

  24. Picture courtesy of KhaoSod By Bright Choomanee A Thai mother’s worst fears were realised when her 42 year old missing son was found dead in an abandoned house in Chanthaburi province. Police and emergency services discovered the body following a GPS trace that led them to the location. Financial stress and personal issues were cited as potential reasons for the suspected suicide. Police Colonel Jirannon Thongsroi of the Thamai District Police Station received a report at 9.30pm yesterday, January 15, regarding the discovery of a dead man. The incident took place in a deserted house in Takad Ngao subdistrict, Chanthaburi. Responding to the call, officials, accompanied by forensic doctors from Phra Pok Klao Hospital and volunteers from Sawang Katanyu Chanthaburi, attended the scene. The deceased was identified as Ruengsak, a 42 year old man, whose surname has been withheld. The body was found on the concrete floor, having died by hanging. It was reported that his body was lowered to the ground by those who discovered him before police were notified. In the vicinity of the body, a car seatbelt was found tied to a post at the back of the abandoned house, about 1 metre above the ground. A pair of sandals was placed at his feet, and a Honda Wave motorcycle with a Rayong registration was parked nearby. Police documented the scene for evidence. The 70 year old mother of the dead man mentioned that her son’s actions might have stemmed from financial difficulties. He had borrowed money from neighbours, and his earnings from fishing were insufficient to repay the debt. She further revealed that her son had frequent arguments with his wife. On the day before the incident, he had told her that he would not be around anymore and apologised. Later that day, he borrowed his brother’s motorcycle and left the house, disappearing afterwards. Despite efforts from family members to locate him, they were unsuccessful. The GPS on his mobile phone, which he carried, eventually led them to the abandoned house where he was found deceased, reported KhaoSod. The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of his death. Meanwhile, arrangements have been made to transport the body to Phra Pok Klao Hospital for a detailed autopsy. Following this, the body will be returned to the family for religious rites.
