A close friend of the deceased, who has known him since their school days, revealed to the media that an employee at the mobile phone shop reported a chilling detail. The female employee told the police she witnessed a man in a blue shirt following the suspect who sold the phones. Initially unaware of the murder, the shop employee did not know the appearance of the suspect or the victim. However, she noticed that a man was consistently following the suspect throughout the transaction. Other shop employees also reported seeing the same man. The close friend disclosed that after seeing news reports and images of the victim in a blue shirt standing in an elevator with the suspect, the shop employee realised the man she saw was dead. Police Lieutenant Krirkwut Ariyametha, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) at Bang Rak Police Station, received a report today, May 29, about the discovery of human skeletal remains in a storage room beneath the crematorium at Mahapruettharamworrawihan Temple in Mahapruettharam Subdistrict, Bang Rak District, Bangkok. He promptly arrived at the scene with officers from the prevention and suppression division, the investigation division, forensic doctors from the Police General Hospital, and forensic evidence officers on May 27. The scene revealed an unidentified skeleton inside the room. A preliminary forensic examination indicated that the remains belonged to a female, though her age and cause of death remain undetermined. The skeleton has been sent to the forensic department at the Police General Hospital for further investigation to ascertain the cause of death and identify the individual. Witnesses revealed that around 30 to 40 years ago, a man known only as Mouha brought the body of his mother, identified as Hia, to the then-abbot of Mahapruettharamworrawihan Temple. Mouha promised to return to perform the religious rites for the deceased, said a witness. “No one came to collect the body for the religious ceremony.” The body was left at the temple, and current monks and temple personnel were unaware of its existence until this recent discovery. Maha Apiwat Thammatthiwat, who was cleaning the storage room under the crematorium, found the skeletal remains. He immediately notified the police. “It was a shocking discovery. A gambler’s bitter feud ended in murder yesterday when a 44 year old man was shot dead by his wife’s estranged husband in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. The police quickly apprehended the suspect, who confessed to the crime. The tragic incident occurred at a residence in Moo 16, Bang Khan Subdistrict, Bang Khan District. The local police, led by Police Captain Chakrit Taewattana, received the report and rushed to the scene with a team of investigators, forensic officers, a hospital doctor, and foundation staff. Upon arrival, police discovered the lifeless body of 44 year old Thawatchai, a native of Phatthalung Province. Thawatchai had been shot multiple times in the head and torso with a 9mm firearm. Nearby, a .38 calibre gun was found on the ground, which was secured as evidence. The victim’s wife, who was present at the scene, was found in a state of shock and was subsequently taken aside for questioning. Police investigations revealed that Thawatchai was a well-known gambler who frequented gambling dens in both Phatthalung and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces. He had been living in the house with his wife when the assailant, identified as 44 year old Monchai Mueangkai, and from Phatthalung, burst in and opened fire without hesitation. Despite Thawatchai possessing a firearm, he did not return fire. Pol. Capt. Chakrit explained that Monchai was the estranged husband of Thawatchai’s wife. Despite not being officially separated, Monchai’s wife had left him to live with Thawatchai at the house where the shooting occurred. Driven by rage upon discovering their whereabouts, Monchai tracked them down and carried out the deadly attack. Shortly after the shooting, police launched a manhunt and swiftly apprehended Monchai, who was still in possession of the 9mm handgun used in the murder. He was charged with premeditated murder and violations of the Firearms Act. During interrogation, Monchai admitted to the charges, stating that he was driven by anger and jealousy after learning that Thawatchai had taken his wife and was living with her, reported KhaoSod. “I was furious that he took my wife and lived with her. A 48 year old resident of Yai Yaem Watthana in Chalermprakiat, Buriram, made the heartfelt decision to give away his buffaloes. Rabin Kruehanon, who has been a contractor for many years, has raised these animals for over five years. Some of his buffaloes have participated in and won national beauty contests. With the current count at seven, the buffaloes, including both male and female adults and their offspring, are now looking for new homes. Due to Rabin and his wife’s strong emotional connection to the animals, his only condition for taking these buffaloes is that they must not be sold to slaughterhouses. The previous caretaker of the buffaloes had passed away. This compounded with the increase in work obligations for Rabin, leaving him with little to no time to care for the animals. Additionally, the land where the buffaloes used to graze is also now required for other purposes, leaving no suitable place for the animals to live. Rabin mentioned that he had received offers from traders wanting to buy the buffaloes for slaughter, but he and his wife refused because of their compassion for the animals. They estimate that selling the buffaloes could fetch between 150,000 to 200,000 baht, but cannot bring themselves to do so. Hence, they decided to give them away to someone who could take good care of them. The seven buffaloes include three females, two of which are pregnant, one male, and three male offspring. Rabin is open to giving them to foundations, temples, or individuals who genuinely care for animals and can look after them, reported Khaosod. Rabin’s decision serves as a reminder of the ethical considerations involved in animal care and the importance of finding suitable homes for animals when their current owners are no longer able to look after them. A Thai woman is seeking justice after her ex-husband swindled about 25 million baht from her and her family and tricked her into signing divorce papers so he could marry another woman. The victim, Fah, sought help from a well-known Thai lawyer, Nitithorn “James” Kaewto, after she and her family lost a significant amount of money to her ex-husband. Fah lost about 2.5 million baht, her sister Su lost 12 million baht, and her older sister-in-law lost 11 million baht. Fah was married to her ex-husband for over 17 years and they had two children together. The couple lived separately due to their jobs. Her husband worked in Bangkok while Fah managed a durian plantation in Nakhon Ratchasima province in Isaan. Fah discovered her husband’s affair two weeks ago and learned that he had married another woman in 2016 while they were still together. The husband had been living a double life without making any of his ex-wife’s family suspicious. In 2017, the husband convinced Fah to divorce him under the pretence of starting a construction company, claiming it would protect Fah and their children from potential legal issues. Trusting him, Fah agreed to the divorce even though she was pregnant with their second daughter at the time. The husband’s deceitful tactics extended to convincing Fah to leave their Bangkok home, claiming it was unsafe due to his conflict with a powerful person. In reality, he wanted to bring his new wife to live there. Durian export scam The ex-husband also forbade Fah from posting pictures of him or them together on social media for safety reasons but it was to hide Fah and their children from his new wife. Fah’s ex-husband began defrauding her by claiming that he wanted to run a company for durian export with Fah. Fah, her younger sister, and her older sister-in-law invested 25 million baht in this company, believing they were partners in the business. However, the company was exclusively owned by the husband and his new wife. As soon as Fah discovered the truth, her husband disappeared and blocked all of her contact channels. Fah is demanding that her ex-husband return their money and consider the well-being of their children. She is prepared to take legal action against him if he refuses to return the money. Fah admitted that she still loves her ex but does not want him to return to the family. The lawyer, James, stated that the man’s criminal action was complex. He not only lured Fah and her family members to transfer money to him in a gratuitous act as reported in other cases but he created a counterfeit document to deceive victims into investing in his company. The complexity of the scheme suggests that someone with legal knowledge may have been involved. Channel 3 reported that the father of the husband’s new wife is a police officer, according to a document found in their possession. A remarkable incident in Nakhon Ratchasima left many in awe when 38 year old woman survived a severe car accident with minimal injuries. The accident occurred yesterday around 5.30pm on Road 224 near Ban Nong Pruek in Chok Chai district. Tachinee Namkasem was driving her black Honda City with the registration number กย 8379 Nakhon Ratchasima when the vehicle lost control and veered off the road. The car flipped multiple times before crashing into an electric pole, resulting in significant damage. Miraculously, Tachinee was thrown from the driver’s seat to the back seat without being ejected from the car, despite three doors being open. She sustained only minor injuries, including scrapes and bruises, with no broken bones or severe wounds. Upon closer inspection, a figurine of Phra Luang Pu Nin, a revered monk known as the Deity of Mercy of Southern Isan, was found on the driver’s seat. The statue had fallen from the glove compartment during the accident. Tachinee’s husband, Natthinai Namkasem, noted that he had been worshipping this particular statue for three years, keeping it in the car for protection. Tachinee said the incident was truly unbelievable after the event. “I was driving from Khon Buri district to visit my family in Chok Chai when the car slipped, and the next thing I knew, I was in the back seat. People who helped me pointed out that the statue of Luang Pu Nin was in the driver’s seat. They told me to keep it safe, believing it protected me during the accident.” Tachinee’s husband, Natthinai believes divine intervention protected his wife. “I have great respect for Luang Pu Nin and have always kept his statues for the safety of my family. When I saw the state of the car, I feared the worst. But seeing my wife safe, I believe it was the monk’s protective power.” Road accident Kachenpong Sorn Khora Buri, a 35 year old man who witnessed the accident and rushed to help, shared his astonishment. “I was driving into Nakhon Ratchasima city when I saw the accident. The car was in such bad shape that I thought no one could have survived. But then I saw someone in the back seat. When I asked about the driver, she said she was alone, which was confusing. Then I noticed the statue on the driver’s seat, which I believe saved her.” Phra Luang Pu Nin Issariko, who once served as the abbot of Wat Khon Buri in Khon Buri district, passed away on August 15, 1994. The statue found in the car is from the Maha Baramee 93 series, created during a merit-making ceremony in 1994, the last series he blessed before his death. The statue is a mixed-metal casting, incorporating sacred elements like betel nut chewed by the monk, reported KhaoSod. Adding to the series of extraordinary events, when the wrecked car was towed to Tachinee’s home at 353 Moo 1 in Or Pim subdistrict, a cat gave birth inside the damaged vehicle the following night. Authorities arrested 24 year old Ruangfa, also known as Mabel, following a lengthy investigation into online criminal networks causing significant public distress. Ruangfa had reportedly set up a fake Facebook profile to portray a legitimate online mobile phone store. She posted attractive offers for various phone brands, luring victims into transferring payments to her bank account. The victims never received their phones. On April 23, the Khon Kaen Provincial Court issued an arrest warrant for Ruangfa, leading to her subsequent capture today. Upon her arrest, the Thai authorities discovered that she had numerous other bank accounts associated with similar fraudulent activities. Most victims, aged between 17 and 25, had been enticed by the low prices of advertised phones. The total financial loss from these scams was substantial. Ruangfa, however, denied being the mastermind behind the fraud, stating that she only allowed her bank account to be used for receiving and forwarding money transfers. Stating that she received 300 to 500 baht per transaction from unknown Facebook users who approached her. Despite her claims of ignorance, further investigation revealed that Ruangfa had another arrest warrant from the Nathawi Provincial Court dated September 25, 2020, for a similar fraud case. Her criminal record showed a pattern of online scams involving mobile phone sales, where she ultimately blocked the victims and disappeared with their money. Police Major General Theeradej Thammasuthee reveals that this arrest is part of a broader initiative to crack down on online criminals and mule accounts. He also emphasised the importance of public vigilance against such frauds, warning people against allowing their bank accounts to be used for suspicious transactions in exchange for money. This crackdown aligns with the policy directive from senior law enforcement officials to aggressively pursue and dismantle online criminal networks, reported Khaosod. Authorities continue to investigate the extent of Ruangfa’s involvement and are working to identify other potential victims. The police have also issued reminders to the public about the risks associated with online transactions and the importance of verifying the credibility of sellers before making any payments. Today marks World Otter Day, an initiative aimed to raise awareness about the protection of otters, classified as endangered wildlife. The International Otter Survival Fund (IOSF) designated the last Wednesday of May each year to highlight the threats facing otters, such as habitat destruction, illegal fur trade, pollution, and poaching. Otters, members of the weasel family, are the largest animals in this group, primarily feeding on fish. Out of the 13 species of otters existing globally, four are found in Thailand. These species are facing various levels of endangerment, with significant conservation efforts required to ensure their survival. The smooth-coated otter is the most commonly found species in Thailand, inhabiting regions in the central and southern parts of the country. The Asian small-clawed otter, less common than the smooth-coated otter, can be seen in national parks and wildlife sanctuaries across the northern and southern regions. The Eurasian otter, with its thicker fur, is found in the northern areas such as Doi Ang Khang in Chiang Mai. The hairy-nosed otter, the rarest of all, resides mainly in southern Thailand, particularly in the Khlong Saeng Wildlife Sanctuary and the mangrove forests along the Pattani River. Presently, all four species are listed on the IUCN Red List, indicating their risk of extinction. The hairy-nosed otter is classified as endangered, while the smooth-coated and Asian small-clawed otters are deemed vulnerable. The Eurasian otter is categorised as near threatened. Otters are typically found near water bodies such as lakes, rivers, and mangrove forests. They are carnivorous, consuming fish, crabs, and molluscs, and they play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of their aquatic ecosystems. As apex predators, otters control the population of their prey, contributing to the ecological equilibrium. The presence of otters is often an indicator of a healthy and thriving ecosystem. Legal protection In Thailand, otters are protected under the Wildlife Preservation and Protection Act 2019. This law underscores the importance of otters in the natural food chain and the necessity of preserving their habitats. Removing otters from their natural environment not only disrupts the ecosystem but also violates legal protections. Despite their charming appearance, otters should not be kept as pets. Doing so is illegal and disrupts the natural order of these skilled aquatic predators, reported KhaoSod. The customer shared their experience in an online consumer group, explaining they ordered durian from a vendor in Nonthaburi for 699 baht, with an additional 21 baht for delivery. The delivery took place late at night. The vendor assured the customer that the durian was of good quality, but upon delivery, the customer noticed something was off when the durian was checked at the doorstep. “The vendor had mentioned that the durian was in perfect condition, but when it was delivered and opened in front of my house, something seemed off.” The customer referred to footage from the house’s CCTV camera. After receiving the durian, the customer quickly realised it was mushy and inedible. They immediately contacted the vendor to report the issue, only to be met with denial. “I reported the condition to the vendor within minutes, but they claimed the durian wasn’t in such a state when they checked it.” In an attempt to salvage some of the purchase, the customer and two others tried to eat parts of the durian that seemed less affected. “I ate one piece, my partner had another, and a third person tried a piece, but it was all bitter.” Despite multiple attempts to notify the vendor, their messages were ignored. Fruitless complaint Frustrated, the customer took to the online group to share their ordeal but the initial post was not approved as the group admin wanted to discuss the issue with the vendor first. The following day, the vendor responded but not in the way the customer had hoped. The vendor requested the return of the durian, but by that time, parts of it had already been discarded. The vendor then refused to offer a refund or replacement, citing that the durian had been partially consumed and discarded. “The vendor said since some of it was eaten and some discarded, they couldn’t accept a return or offer a refund.” Despite having photographic evidence of the durian’s condition, the vendor remained unresponsive to further complaints. San Pu Loei's mayor, Satit Kamnokaeo, and the head of the Regional Administration Registration Center 5, Bunyarit Nipawanich, recently visited the village to examine the living conditions of the residents. The factory responsible for the devastation has not given any form of compensation yet. Mayor Satit reported that the local government provided 1 million baht to help with the initial repairs. “Our visit aimed to assess the current situation of the villagers affected by the explosion that destroyed much of the village almost a year ago,” Satit explained. Most houses that were damaged are now livable again, thanks to the local government's support. However, the factory has not taken any responsibility for the damages nor given any compensation to the victims. Bunyarit described the situation as alarming, especially considering the severe damages inflicted by the explosion. “I find it alarming that, despite the extensive damages, the factory owners have not given any compensation,” Bunyarit stated. He advised the victims to file a legal case against the factory to claim compensation. One resident, whose house is beside the explosion site, shared that their house is still not fully rebuilt after the disaster. They said their insurance covered some repair costs but they had to spend an additional 200,000 baht. The factory has not given any compensation, with only the local government offering some help. “The explosion has caused great difficulties for my family and me. We are still scared that it might happen again,” the resident said. A former transport minister in Thailand recently chose to personally repay a Japanese tourist who was overcharged by an unscrupulous tuk tuk driver in Bangkok. He gave 2,000 baht ($64) in cash to the tourist, stating it was his moral obligation as a Thai citizen to make amends. The Japanese man reported on Twitter last May 13 that he had been unfairly charged 6,000 baht ($192) for a journey from Silom to Asoke in Bangkok, a distance of about 6 to 7 kilometers. The driver responsible, later identified as 29-year-old Phummarate, was subsequently arrested and penalized 2,500 baht ($80). The penalty imposed, included 2,000 baht for overcharging and 500 baht for improper conduct while delivering public service. His driver's license was also suspended for 90 days, and he was ordered to undertake three hours of ethical training. Nikorn Chamnong, the former transport minister, stood up to address the situation. He not only expressed his apology to the victim on Facebook on May 29, but was also able to hand over the compensation in person. Nikorn attended a reception for Masato Otaka, the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to Thailand, at the Okura Prestige Bangkok Hotel on May 28. Here, he took the chance to apologize to the victim, who accompanied the ambassador, and handed over the reimbursement. Although Nikorn revealed that he had not managed to locate the victim earlier, he expressed relief that he was finally able to make it right. As the former supervisor of the Ministry of Transport, he said he felt it necessary to apologize officially in order to serve as a responsible Thai citizen. Thailand has been praised for its efficient handling of an emergency involving a Singapore Airlines flight experiencing severe turbulence over Myanmar on May 21. Leading the team was Dr Wichanya Burirak, an aviation enthusiast and physician. The incident occurred when Singapore Airlines Flight SQ321, on its way from London to Singapore, encountered heavy turbulence. Reports of injured passengers and crew prompted the pilots to make an emergency landing in Bangkok at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Dr Wichanya, a graduate of Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Medicine, described the scene at the airport as chaotic, with people rushing all over the place. There was little time to prepare as the airplane, carrying 229 passengers and crew, touched down 20 minutes earlier than expected at 3:51pm. The scale of the incident became evident when Dr Wichanya boarded the plane and saw the injured passengers, many of whom were seriously hurt. After taking stock of the situation, Dr Wichanya contacted Suvarnabhumi Airport’s director, Kittipong Kittikachorn, to implement a mass casualty plan. Following approval, she coordinated her medical team, paramedics from Samitivej Hospital, rescuers, and a transport team to assist the injured. The operation was swift. Injured passengers were rushed to Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, located 19 kilometers away, in just 15 minutes – half of the typical travel time. The affected flight had passengers from 16 nations, with the most coming from Australia (56), the United Kingdom (47), and Singapore (41). As per Singapore Airlines, 40 passengers and one crew member are still receiving treatment in a Bangkok hospital. The injuries range from spinal, skull, and brain injuries, and sadly, there was also one fatality, 73-year-old Briton Geoff Kitchen. Dr Wichanya, who has spent 12 years working at Suvarnabhumi, said this was the largest incident she's dealt with. She expressed her childhood love for airplanes, even winning the title of True Fan of Airlines on a TV game show in 2005. A member of a seven-man gang suspected of raping and kidnapping a 16-year-old girl in 2011 has been arrested by Thai authorities. The 40-year-old man, Uthai, was captured after a persistent manhunt. This arrest happened yesterday, following an arrest warrant issued in 2011 by Kanchana Buri Provincial Court. The Head of the Anti-Human Trafficking Division (AHTD), Sarut Kwangsopa, led the arrest. Uthai was charged with a series of serious crimes, such as gang rape, kidnapping a minor, and forcing someone into indecent acts. His arrest took place in Nong Khai Province. In 2011, the young victim who goes by the pseudonym Pad, was taken from her house and forced into a truck by a group of men who later raped her. They then fled, leaving her in a house in Bo Phloi District, Kanchanaburi Province. Later, Pad reported the ordeal to the Laokhwan Police Station, leading to arrest warrants being issued for all the seven suspects. Some suspects are already behind bars. Officials found out that Uthai had been hiding in Nong Khai Province for more than 13 years. Despite his denial of the charges during the interrogation, authorities did not believe him. He was moved to Laokhwan Police Station for more legal proceedings. An investigator affirmed they have strong evidence against Uthai. The incident left a deep emotional scar on the victim and her journey to justice has been long and challenging. However, the arrest of Uthai marks a significant step towards closure for her and her family. The police are committed to ensuring that all those involved will face justice, according to a report by Khaosod. The case signifies the tireless efforts by law enforcement to deliver justice for victims of serious crimes, regardless of the time passed.
