Pattaya Deputy Mayor Manoch Nongyai and relevant authorities inspected Walking Street on Wednesday, August 31st, to follow up on the progress of the 30-million-baht road resurfacing project. Walking Street used to be in worse shape, according to Deputy Manoch, because it was dug up to bury underground wires and pipes under the command of the Provincial Electricity Authority to enhance the tourism atmosphere. However, Manoch stated that the project was done during the low season with few tourists, so the consequences were tolerable. This is applied to both savory and sweets including drinks. For a long time, Thai dishes are professionally rendered with an aesthetic touch of edible flowers. Currently, a number of fine dining Thai restaurants and leading café have increasingly used edible blooms as seasonal ingredients. They are pleasing to the eye, and are very photogenic for Instagramers. The edible flowers are quite common for home-cooking with the likes of Butterfly Pea (Dok Anchan), Cowslip creeper flower (Dok Kjon), Sesbania flower (Dok Sano) or Humming bird Sesban Agasta flower (Dok Khae) are common among Thai foodies. Those are mainly served just like vegetables on the side of dishes. Yet the use for seasoning and aesthetic purposes – mainly for creation and elevation of the dishes – has just been increasingly popular in the past several years. “Personally, I think I’ve exhaustedly used flowers in my creation as I have been doing so for the past two decades. I started by picking flowers from my friend’s garden to create dishes and from that beginning point, there is no return. Right now, I’d like to find a new twist to my cuisine as this time around I’d like to pursue forest cuisine,” Jarunwan Boonwiwatana, self-taught chef and owner of Homemade Cooking restaurant, told Thai PBS World. 16. BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand is now hosting a regional meeting focused on shelf life extension of products, and the use of eco-friendly items. This meeting aims to promote the bio and circular economy while minimizing waste. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) has joined hands with the German International Cooperation (GIZ) Bangkok Office to organize a regional meeting on the theme Reduce! - From More to Better. The opening ceremony was participated by delegates from several countries. In a special remark delivered at this event, Mr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Deputy Director General of Natural Resources and Environment, said Thailand is in the process of capitalizing on its biodiversity and local cultures with its economic and social development plan. This new approach will promote the use of the country’s biodiversity and cultures as ingredients for new products, in ways that yield the highest value and efficiency, based on the BCG Model. Mr. Pinsak said the ministry now aims to maximize the efficiency of natural resources utilization, achieve the highest value, reduce waste, and reduce resource consumption by two-thirds of the current quantity. The MNRE has a goal to reduce waste by 16.5 million tons, while focusing on climate actions. The ministry’s plan will be particularly focused on the plastics industry, ICT, garment, textiles, and construction industries. Mr. Janejob Suksod, Director of the Environmental Analysis Center, said this meeting has a goal to turn cities into low-carbon cities, as Thailand is considered a leader of the ASEAN region in this regard. He said half of government offices in Thailand utilize eco-friendly products, while the government is pushing for private firms to follow suit. The Thai government has set a target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2065.
