  1. He came from a very succesful family and he really was a fcukup. Yes, he did a few things that worked, but Kung <deleted> was considered a joke for a long time and there must have been a lot of years that he was doing nothing and just focused on the negatives. All I can say is that I am sorry, but I am not really surprised.

    A little harsh, IMHO.

Bruce Lee had the original idea for "Kung <deleted>" with himself in the lead role. For the time and environment that was the early 70's, my high school years, the "Kung <deleted>" that came to the small screen and Carradine's portrayal of Caine were spot on casting, hip and cool. He was a good actor and a successful one. So please, can we leave the opinions on perceived personal flaws out of it? Those things are better left to his family and his maker for final judgment.

dam_n sad way to see a life come to an end. May he find peace in the next life.

    well said, RIP

  2. Hi, I am due to renew my BUPA health insurance in June 2009. I joined BUPA after I was 60 so after this year I do not qaulify for further insurance under the Thailand Company. When I requested reccomedations for continuation of health insurance within Thailand, they informed me that they would transfer my policy to the UK branch.

I am not interested in world wide insurance only Thailand, BUPA uk covers world wide and is so expensive it is a definate no-no for my pocket.

I have looked at LMG online and they seem to offer continuation after 71, they also appear to give greater cover of course the premium is somwhat higher.

I have used BUPA twice for minor hospital instays and they have paid each time with no problem. Has anyone experience of LMG, or alternative insurers.

Perhaps some of the older long stay expats have some experiences in this field. I welcome and info.

    Cheers

Found this post, somewhere it mentions a discount scheme in the LMG insurance.

  3. "First time that I have heard that the readers are 'generic' when the whole purpose of using them is added security. Next thing we know, people will be borrowing them for all sorts of nefarious activities. Personally, I wouldn't let the dam_n thing out of my sight even though it needs a card and PIN to work on any specific account. "

I heard this before so I tried a NationWide DBcard in both a NationWide reader and a NatWest reader and both gave a different response. NationWide was of course correct.

  4. What about this "free" rooms thing that was announced a couple of weeks ago. Is anything actually happening or is it quietly melting away like I expected?

quote from todays Pattaya Mail "The foreign marketing plan is divided into three strategies: Fam trips, focusing on the mass media in Asia, joining domestic and international airlines in discount tourism packages and giving awards through the www.pattayabeourguest.com website."

problem is the web site doesn't work

  5. I recently became eligible for my OAP from England but I can only get the single man's pension. I have been in contact with Pensions Office and they have accepted my Thai marriage certificate as authentic but tell me I cannot have the married man's pension unless my Thai wife has a U.K. National Insurance number. To obtain this my wife must visit a Job Centre in the U.K and apply for one, and then wait until it is issued, which could be up to 6 months. Has anybody else had a similar problem and if so how did they overcome it? I have been told that a visit to the British Embassy in Malaysia could help. I am happy to marry my wife again in a nearby country if that proves necessary. Any help from anyone will be much appreciated.

this guy got an NI for his wife...

  6. ...Blighted Isle...

    :D Good one.

Get it paid into a Nationwide Flexaccount and withdraw it here, free of ATM charges and a good rate.

Not free for much longer :o - 1% Visa charge being passed on from May on Flexaccount withdrawals. Still better than having a Sterling cheque sent to a Thai bank - heavy collection charges, time to clear, rate......

Still free if Flexaccount is cash card (not debit card), cash card charges are due later on but not May.

  7. ... so what's the likley outcome if the farang who owns a car wasn't driving it when the car was involved in a smash, say he was a passenger maybe not even there, it was his GF who was driving, is the poor guy supposed to cough up shed loads of money? if it works like that then I'll never drive in Thailand.
