Surprised people are having trouble with the initial applications these days. It was a very smooth process when I signed up a year ago.

Maybe it still is for the majority of applicants? The fact that jankan88, newatthis and I are mentioning slow feedback processes doesn´t necessarily mean that everyone experiences the same issues. After all, not everyone reads and comments on TV. ;-))))

Do you think you are allowed to go in and out and give you another entry? I was only given 16 days last time.

Not sure what you mean. Can you provide some details, please?

What is true is that if you enter on the last day of your visa (enter before xx/month) then you will be stamped in with another 60 days which can be extended by 30 days at immigration.

  3. That´s annoying, jankan88. Completely agree!

I´ve mentioned earlier that their response times to emails are a bit hit & miss. Sometimes I get feedback within the hour, sometimes it takes them 3 days. As for the welcoming letter, same situation as for you. Was supposed to be 2-3 days and its now well over that time. Personally, I am not too concerned about a few extra days since I won´t need the visa before the end of the month. But yes, if I were you with your tight schedule and the permission of stay expiring on the 7th I would certainly be rather upset.

I am sure it will work out fine for you. Fingers crossed!

You can obviously also use a courier to deliver the passport to them. But yeah this is not a big thing as you can get the service other places. Although TE won't charge a fee.

I guess I will never understand why pp copies are OK when doing the report by post but when you use TE then you need to post/bring along the original pp. Doesn't make sense to me but ...

  5. Not strictly a TE question but related to me having the TE visa affixed later next month.

I entered TH on a METV and have a permission to stay till 26 June. On that day, I plan to go to CW to get my TE visa. My question is: Do I need to file my first 90 days report 30 days later (on or before 25 July) or will the 90 days clock be reset the moment I get the new visa affixed in my pp?

    1. It depends upon how far you live from the immigration office you report to and how busy the office is that your report to. Both are good.

    2. You need your passport (copies will not be accepted) and completed TM47 form to do it in person.

    3. If you entered on the March 21st your report would be due on the June 18th. You can report in person up to 15 days before the report date or 7 days after. By mail it has to received by immigration 7 days before the report date.

    4. Correct if mailing it to Bangkok immigration.

Any particular reason as to why you need to produce your original passport when you apply in person but can use copies if you do the report by post?

We're drifting a bit apart here, a digital nomad will have a home address or an office address if you like, outside of Thailand.

    Is that so?

I stopped working in the U.K. last year and left the country for good. My job used to be something I could do from anywhere in the world. If I had continued the same job from my new home in Thailand what would be my tax situation with me living "permanently" in LOS now?

  8. One of the potential dangers that I see is that if the client(s) who you invoice will be audited by their national tax authority and for whatever reason "pick out" your invoices to cross-check if you paid taxes etc on your income that then things might turn a bit ugly. Let´s assume you, a DN, invoice your clients from and with your address in Thailand. Would a local tax authority in, let´s say for example the UK, approach either the DN directly or the Thai tax authorities to check if tax was paid on that income? How likely is such a scenario to happen? I genuinely don´t know as I am not working in such a scenario but would be interesting to know since lots of DNs seem to think that they will not and cannot be caught.

Ok, if it was just the MFA or branch/department of or immigration you needed to deal with I'd feel more confident about it, but maybe that's just me, and doesn't put anyone else off. Although this talk of big losses should be irrelevant if government backed..

You really make me laugh with all your repeated efforts to seed doubts etc. And I don´t mean that in a negative way. You *genuinely* make me laugh whenever you post about TE. But nothing wrong with that, of course. :-)

That is bad advice/information. It is highly unlikely that a prison sentence would be handed down. The court will impose a fine of up to 20K, but likely to only be a few thousand baht. After being found guilty of overstaying in the court they would be held at the IDC until they fly out of the country. It is possible to held at the IDC indefinitely if the person cannot buy a flight back to their home country.

Well, the gist of both comments is that people who cannot pay the fines will end up locked away and I guess that´s the main thing the OP should be concerned about.
