Do you really want pay the immigration to go on holiday for you. Get serious guys, I prefer keep 500k bahts and go around to get my usual tourist visa and in same time I lose weight.
Good on you! :-)
Again, this is the beauty of CHOICE! You prefer to spend every 3 months at a Thai consulate in SEA, others prefer not to. So that´s probably what some people call a "win - win situation". And both are happy! Well, both should be happy but it seems that those who don´t have (don´t want, cannot afford) TE cannot help but feeling miserable that others are happy to pay for the convenience TE offers to them.
But if you like Pattaya I understand that getting out of there and getting to Laos for a visit to the consulate there must feel like a dream holiday. I´d certainly would want to go to Laos every 4 weeks if I had to live in Pats... ;-)))

Thanks Joe so that almost gives 8 months?
Actually almost 9 if you extend the last 60 days (and if you entered TH almost immediately after the vise was issued).

sounds pretty much like 1 million for 5 years to me,
who knows what will happen in 5 years time, refund? I doubt that very much if the scheme is closed
The question of "what happens if" has been discussed to death in the various TE threads......

But that´s exactly the moot point in this tiring discussion since the inception of TE, this whole "It is worth it" vs "It isn´t worth it" argument.
The "value" of TE is measured differently by every single person, so you might say "It is not worth the money FOR ME" and there´s nothing to say against that. But If I started to comment on every single product available on the market that FOR ME isn´t worth any money then I´d be typing messages 24/7. And there is no point in doing that so to say "It is worth it" or "It is not worth it" is imho a moot point. And it is irrelevant to the OP´s actual question in #1. But I admit, there can never be a simple question about TE without the bashers and supporters of this OPTIONAL visa coming out in force. LOL.

I have an extension based on Business. Last year it took 8 visits to immigration by one of my staff to get my submission accepted. The pile of documents was 2.5 centimetres thick.
This is on top of the special procedures our staff have to do each month to obtain the relevant evidence I will need for my submission.
It is just painful. If I could have a work permit with the Elite visa I would - however, sadly, it is not possible.
Agreed!

Yes it is funny to see you pay 1 million bhat for a "tourist visa " from TE.
Well, I haven´t (yet?) but if it provided entertainment to you if I did then I guess you might want to thank me for it..... LOL

It´s the same old arguments over and over again.... LOL..... But as for the over 70ies, yes, I actually do agree with you that signing up for a 20 years membership might potentially be not the wisest decision. ;-) But then again, they can easily go down either the Non-O route or sign up for a 5 years TE membership. You see, it is about CHOICE, nothing else.
So many people who cannot or do not want to pay for TE always seem to get emotional and agitated whenever the topic comes up. It´s quite funny actually!

Ah, isn't that a great thing that "freedom
of choice"!? Having said that, at below 50 my personal choices appear much more limited than yours at the moment.

From what I understand, it was meant for frequent visitors and not retirees but due to not thinking it through, it seems to offer an excellent back door to retirement. No producing bank statements, no producing pension statements, no police checks etc.
Hope it holds good for a few more years.
I couldn´t agree more....
When my METV expires later this summer my only decision will be between 500k for 5 yrs and 1mn for 20..... But if you def know you want to stay in TH for a very long time than, imho, the 1mn for 20 years, is a very interesting alternative to the other visa and extension options currently available.

I think that a retirement or over fifty extension is better especially in Bangkok. One million is very cheap after a few years.
What do you mean by that? Why is an EoS "better". "Cheaper", I could understand, but "better"? Why?

Even though you would be getting the expected echange rate and you would never have had any higher and probably not even realise. Is what I'm getting at.
I am absolutely aware of what you are trying to say but this blissful ignorance of the past is something I don´t have so "in real terms" when the exchange rate of the currency you are converting to TBH is 20% or so (it is just a ball park figure now) below the average of the last 5 - 10 years, then yes, today´s rate is horrible. That doesn´t mean there is anything you can do about it. It´s a matter of fact (for the time being) and everyone wanting to exchange GBP/THB has to live with it. But it remains a shockingly low rate which prevents ME (!!) from describing a 44 exchange rate as "not bad", as another user has done. It is "not bad" when you consider it´s already been lower but it is shi$ when you know where we stood at just over half a year ago.

If you came to Thailand d yesterday would it still be horrible?
Yes, of course it would :-)

Not horrible you have to forget the heady days of last year and 55 to the pound. Reality is this figure between 43 and 45 will be the new normal for a while.
Exactly!!!!! And that's why it is indeed extremely horrible. :-)

I'm presuming correct me if I'm wrong are you situated in a city? Seems a bit of a major drop 20 to 1.5.
Yeah, right on lower Sukhumvit in BKK. Speed fluctuates a lot during peak times but yesterday was particularly bad. Usually, it´s "stable" between 9 and 20 Mbit.

Change the video settings in whatever app you are using to play it.
I am currently using their webportal and watching the channels through there (within the google chrome browser). No settings I can find anywhere. And the strange thing is that it is not all the SD channels that come up in 4:3 aspect ratio. Very strange.....

LOL con job by the looks of it. I get 10mbs download from 3bb constant day or night guaranteed.
I am overall happy with 3BB but I am not as fortunate as you are. DL speed varies between 20Mbit when I am lucky and 1.5Mbit during peak hours (like yesterday evening).

I´ve a quick question re Flawless IPTV.
This afternoon I signed up for a 24 hours trial. I´ve received the log-in details and hooked up my Macbook with the big TV. Looks pretty good so far. However, I have an issue with some channels. Whilst most channels show correctly in 16:9 widescreen format, some channels (like SkyNews SD at this moment) only come up in 4:3. Is there anything I can do at my end to get ALL the channels in 16:9?

Trust me. The outskirts will drive you into depression, all people have a burning desire to be around like minded people.
You would be making a huge mistake thinking you will fit inHe should trust nobody but himself!
I know quite a few people whose main reason to come to Thailand was to no longer be around like minded (farang) people, to escape from farang craziness. And these guys are more than having a great time "in the outskirts". At least, they never show any signs of deep depression whenever I hook up with them. So, no, I don´t trust you or your view on "living on the outskirts" ...
