30 years in Thailand and you're asking where to get a passport copied???

A Thai cop can stop you anytime. All they have to have is reasonable cause which in Thailand can mean anything. So not stopping would be you're first mistake. Then making things more difficult than what it should be by pulling out your phone and making a scene is going to cause things to escalate. If you go as far as filing a complaint with a superior you could end up with allot more than you expect. You need to remember this is not like the west. Filing a complaint in a corrupt country is something I would avoid.

If you're arrested your in jail until you're bailed out. I'm not trying to get into with you, but can you please show me where it says they were arrested? I read the article and didn't see anything about someone being arrested for not having a passport on them. It appears they were detained and questioned, but didn't see any arrests for not having a passport on them. As I stated I've never heard of someone being arrested for not having a passport on them. They might be detained until they can prove their legal status, but if they are legally in the country they aren't going to be asserted for not having a passport on them.

really?? I dont recall seeing any reports that someone was in jail for not having a passport. I've seen news reports of expats being arrested for having no passport at all or a fake passport. I've seen reports on raids in bars in which expats are held until they provide proof of their legal status, but arrested in put in jail for not having a passport on them, never heard of this. Being detained until they provide proof yes, that happens.

Wow, I cant believe you risk carrying everything with you. What if you get in accident and you're unconscious your bag goes missing. Then you have to replace everything.

so you want to put people in jail because of something you believe is wrong. Anything else you dont like that we should put people in jail for? I think sugar is really unhealthy for people too, cause all kinds of health problems when used too much, maybe that should be criminalized too.

In Thailand it's the management system used for the guns owned by the royal police. If anyone read the article they are talking about scraping their current system, which is a good idea. They explained that most police decide to buy their weapons (been stated on here many times they have to buy their own guns) because of the high penalties and fines associated with damaging or losing their weapon. Police can buy discounted guns through the system too, but there is no limit on how many and of course it's been abused.
