Actually I used to think that Thailand was a 3rd world country prior to moving here in 2003.
All I have seen for the last 16 years is that Thais are living it up more than Westerners.
Despite the household debt I still fail to understand how they do this.
Meanwhile, my home currency keeps dwindling away as does my buying power. I really do hope their bubble bursts soon, or mine will.
don't worry.. the gas that powers most of Thailand's power stations will be exhausted in another 5 years, AI will decimate a lot of Thai better paid (than agriculture) jobs.. and as for tourist numbers, all the people I know in the tourist industry say it is very quiet... but hey, the Chinese will come to the rescue.. sshhh... don't mention the Chinese Banks that have gone bust, having to be rescued by the Chinese Central Bank.. don't worry, don't worry, everything is under control... well, Thailand always has the wisdom of the sacred cow to fall back on....

It's not difficult to see why Thai women often avoid anything to do with a Thai man... at least it's good for the rest of us...

My relationship with her is about me ensuring she doesn't go back to the place where we met. I hope u understand now. This is a promise I made to myself that she will never go to work in a pimp's shop in pattaya or Bangkok.
I like to stay with her because that ensures she is studying because I am paying my money so she can finish school and go to college. I want to pay for all that. I just don't want her to work in a pimp's business as a sales woman.

Visa is a lot easier in Cambodia and you can get a business visa... start a business there, and she can join you in Cambodia, and go back to Thailand twice a year to visit her family..

Why do you see this coming next when it’s already the law.
Allowing pics of your passport in hit phone was just a gracious gesture By no means it is a rule or law.
when I was caught up in a raid about 2 years ago , they did not accept pic in phone and insisted on seeing the real thing .
Well i can see a queue at embassies and people missing their flights as drunken holiday makers on their 7 day package holiday, lose their passports or they get defaced or damaged.. this is going to be great for the Thai tourist industry,,,

Health insurance is obviously an issue as is other issues that could burden the Thai economy - but I feel in the whole scheme of things that this would only account for a small percentage. I get that having people here financially self sufficient is a good idea, but their requirements I feel are too rigid and with the new laws it makes those who have been doing the right thing all along being punished. Of course there are those who have caused problems and hence the crackdown and changes. But I feel that there may be a bigger strategy here to change the face of those who come here. There is always the Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam and probably a few other places as well that in time will cater better for expats and those needing care. Sad for the lady though. A bit of flexibility in circumstances like this would be good IMO.
Makes me think that all the Thais in overseas countries, where perhaps their partner has a low income, or they send money back to Thailand should also be kicked out of these Western countries and back to the rice farm.. also maybe the Thai authorities do not read the news... the number of very well off Western people is getting less and less.. and if they think the Chinese are great people to have in Thailand, then they need to have a good look at what the Chinese are doing to and in Cambodia...

It would seem he did have a number of psychological problems, some of which you could imagine are linked to his obesity and behavior... if you restrict food in, you will lose weight.. have you even seen any photos of overweight people in concentration camps... there are steps you can take to help overcome what will and has been a life diminishing issues for this man, such as gastric bypass.... I guess it's an age old message, that whatever your Achilles heel is, it's better to try and address it before it consumes you...

I think the Thai government should take out advertisements in papers such as the UK Sun and Mirror advising all the things that are illegal in Thailand, you know, those things tourists travel to Thailand for. These disgrace tourists should find another country to spend their money in.....

Move to the Philippines so easy I spent 20years in Thailand sick of the place now
Agreed... I wish I had never had anything to do with Thailand now, but hard when you have made a very good circle of friends... maybe one day they will really shoot themselves in the foot, and will be forced to reappraise their unfriendly approach to foreign visitors, short of long term...

Why is that they usually stay at a guest house that should be reporting their place of stay. Real tourist never have anything to do with this system. If the guesthouse or hotel is on the up and up they are reporting their location. I use to check in to hotels in Kanchanaburi only using my drivers licenses now they want the passport because immigration here does come around checking and this has been going on for about 3 years.
I am a tourist with many friends across Thailand. I travel between friends staying maybe one or two nights before I make my way eventually to the Cambodian border where there is no regular bus route (no way to "book" a way out of Thailand) - I have to catch the "casino bus" to the border, walk across and get a mototaxi the other side. So I stay one night at a friends and they have to spend to next day going to an immigration office to report that I stayed with them last night ?.. my feelings are f*** Thailand except, and sadly, I have a lot of good friends there...

Really, this is all a Golden opportunity for surrounding SE Asian countries to up their game, and attract more foreign visitors who would have otherwise gone to Thailand. It's easy to acquire a bad reputation, and much harder to retrieve a good one...

Little to do with Brexit, but of course there are plenty of people who would want to blame Brexit.. Mercedes are in strife but I don't think they are blaming Brexit ? .. more like falling demand from China... I think it is reconned that by 2025, it will be more economical to buy and run an electric car in Europe than a petrol car, so who would then buy a petrol car... who wants to guess the name of the big manufacturer that will be no more in the near future ? Chrysler/Fiat ?...
