The word is facetious.. look it up, and I do indeed hope this was the vein in which the original comment was made..

So if the Chinese economy goes South (anyone taking bets), then it's game over for Thailand... mmm... not the time to be investing in tourism in Thailand I think...

I have never had a problem with riding all over NE Thailand but I have often thought, friends from NZ and the UK driving in Thailand and thinking Green means it's OK and safe to go would get into a lot of trouble. Green means it MIGHT be ok to go if you are a Farang. If you are Thai, Red and Green means it MIGHT be OK to go.

Air Asia.. check in online with your smart phone: But be aware when I tried to use their APP, it does not work (might work for you).. but go to the website, and it does work. Go to some cheap shop who will print out the document emailed to you (email it to them when you are at their shop), and this will count as your boarding pass.. on single flights anyway... multi city flights it's different, and only the first flight acts as a boarding pass, so go to the desk where you are supposed to confirm your details, and point out that subsequent to the first flight documents, it clearly states that the other flight documents are not to be used as boarding passes. Demand that this desk issue boarding passes, and they did for me - as of course it was easy for them as all my details had already been confirmed by my online confirmation. So while Air Asia is not perfect by a long way (Jetstar is not better), their flights are really cheap. And of course keeping their flights cheap, puts pressure on the other carriers to keep their prices down.

well if the Thai government can shoot themselves in the foot over the dramatic fall in tourists, then I guess the Thai Police can go one better and shoot the tourists in the head...

The Australian Ambassador should just threaten a publicity campaign in Australia urging all Australians to avoid any dealings with Thailand and go elsewhere for their holidays. Hit them in the pocket....

having watched the video, it seems 50/50... sure the Thai should have cleared the "wrong side" of the road (he very nearly did completely), but in heavy traffic that is not always possible. It looks like the Frenchman's front wheel locked up which caused the scooter to slide from under him - maybe the road was a little wet and oily ?. He was incredibly unlucky to have hit his head such that it killed him. Under most circumstances it would have resulted in some torn clothing and scuffed paint at worst. This seems to have been a combination of unfortunate circumstances and timing.

Sadly this is what happens when people get into authoritative positions where they feel they are untouchable and are given messages or only listen to messages telling them they are some sort of God. It is the disease of our time and there are plenty of examples all around us. One might suspect this is what is to be expected as a society enters terminal decline... a point all societies reach at some stage...

I got stopped at every checkpoint.. it was guaranteed.. I do have a full motorcycle license and one checkpoint I had to find the page in my international license where it said motorcycles... was starting to piss me off.. this was over a large area of North Eastern Thailand...

Thanks for all the tips guys.
Does the police actively check it? I'm taking my motorcycle licence back home but due to the back and forth it will take a few months.
Any bad stories dealing with the police otherwise?

Genes don't make you fat (despite any potential). You only get fat by eating more than you burn off through exercise and lifestyle.
absolutely... show me one person who was overweight in a concentration camp... and then we hear the old nonsense "I can't lose weight it's my metabolism/genes/whatever"...

2016 was a bad year for hospital deaths... hospital is obviously very dangerous, note to myself, better avoid hospital...

Someone should send these details to the Sun newspaper in the Uk, and there must be some equivalent ones in other countries whose holiday makers come to Thailand as tourists. At some stage people will get the message that tourists are not welcome unless you have cash falling out of your pockets, and they would be better looking for more welcoming destinations... whatever happened to the ideas of a cashless society... ?

I am 63, ride a BMW 7400 kms all over NZ with a Thai girlfiend, have a bike in Thailand and Cambodia, and will be building a small plane in Cambodia and a lot more....are you going to say I shouldn't be doing this ? Oh and I should mention the young Khmer daughter in Cambodia (whose mother is a Police Officer - so it was not a mistake)...

Really, this is all a Golden opportunity for surrounding SE Asian countries to up their game, and attract more foreign visitors who would have otherwise gone to Thailand. It's easy to acquire a bad reputation, and much harder to retrieve a good one...
