  1. My main issue with them is also price...they are ridiculously more expensive (at least in Economy) than other, often better, airlines.

Also, their website is awful when it comes to finding out available flights and pricing them...they often don't list the lowest available fare (which you DO get if you call their callcenter to book!) and have no support for weekly flight views, thus making any bookings on non-daily flights a major pain if you don't know their exact schedule.

  2. Ah, I see, thanks for the info...then I guess what they need is someone to enforce the respective rules.

It's funny how they manage to strictly enforce something as complex as countrywide liquor sale bans between certain hours but have no one to check street sign printing, which must surely come from only one authority in each town.

  3. Talk about a lot of information...where would these trains go? Are any studies currently being conducted? When he says "his government", does he mean that things will start soon or are a pipe dream to be completed in 2020?

Maybe he's referring to linking up with the Malaysian network's speedup and the Pan-Asian rail corridor plans...

  4. Does Thailand have something resembling an Academy? Basically, a national institution that sets standards and keeps the official language as clean as possible?

Definitely something that would be needed would be an official transliteration guide that at least all state institutions should adhere to, it's so silly to see all those different Latin alphabet spellings of road names and such...

  5. I would also like to add something about the people, even if it's for more commercial reasons the ones down South definitely make you feel more comfortable than the Hanoi people...basically, if you like how you're treated in Thailand, you will appreciate the people in HCMC more than in Hanoi.

Both cities are worth seeing and I would say that Hanoi is the nicer physical city, but the people detract from the experience...also, hotels are much less of a good value than HCMC.

  6. I'm curious to try out this service: http://www.truetv.in.th/

Does anyone already have it? The link to the manual for the set-top box is not working (no surprise there) and I'm wondering if the box has any decent output, i.e. component...

Also, I wonder how it affects the Internet connection, does it piggy-back on your ADSL line while also providing extra bandwidth or does it eat into your existing bandwidth? Because if it doesn't work while I'm downloading something, it would be no more useful than a software solution.

I also noticed that in the videos and pictures, the interface is largely in Thai, would that be the case with no option to change it to English?

Any info would be welcome, the retards at the TRUE Shop told me to check the website (I swear, their store staff is AWFUL...it doesn't even matter if you approach them in Thai or English, they simply don't know ANYTHING).

  7. We got DELL PCs at the office with this concept...even though XP is preinstalled, I have also received an actual Vista DVD and corresponding serial number.

On my computer, I chose to upgrade and am now legally running Vista...so many of these sales could actually be converted into actual Vista usage once the PCs reach the office or later down the line when they upgrade RAM or what not...a sale is a sale, whether the product ends up being used by the buyer or not.

  8. Yes, 720p (and all other resolutions) display the banding effect...

In terms of overscan, it's basically like this: 1920x1080@24Hz - no overscan. 1920x1080@59/60Hz - overscan. So I keep it @ 24Hz.

And yeah, I'm honestly quite happy with running it at 1920x1080...now that you mentioned it, if I'm looking at text in things like program menus from very close up (i.e. 10 cm away), the lack of sharpness is noticeable...however, from an angle or from my normal viewing position (2.5ish meters away, straight on) it looks very crisp and readable, so I don't mind it at all.

  9. Actually I'm using a DVI connector with HDMI adapter on the video card side...it is full HDMI 1.3 with audio support (audio input on the video card), but it supports any resolution I through at it, basically...and I also tried 720p, still no go.

  10. Connecting over HDMI, but 1365x768 is quite difficult to setup using Powerstrip, it doesn't have a preset for it and I'm not sure if I need to change timings compared to 1366x768.

There actually was some kind of "Auto format" setting in the Menu, and I disabled it...

  11. I'm not trying to display 1680x1050 on it...my configuration is as follows:

Radeon 3650 video card on a desktop PC with DVI & HDMI ports:

Port 1: Samsung 20'' PC LCD monitor running @ 1680x1050

Port 2: Toshiba 32AV500T running @ 1920x1080 in Extended Desktop mode

I definitely could not select this kind of resolution on my previous plasma...it was specced as 1280x1024 max and that was the most the ATI drivers would allow me to select (I actually kept it at 1280x720), trying to force a higher resolution would result in no image being displayed (same as when you select too high settings on a PC monitor).

Has anyone tried to connect a 32'' LCD to their laptop/desktop? If it was specced as 1366x768, did you have access to higher resolutions?

I haven't even forced any settings, Vista automatically allows me to select 1920x1080 in Display Properties.

  12. But hold on, if it's downscaling, how come the window sizes in Windows correspond to that resolution? My normal LCD monitor that is connected to the PC is 1680x1050 and everything is clearly bigger than on the Toshiba...even the wallpaper, a centered 1680x1050 image, has black borders around it on the Toshiba, corresponding to having extra resolution, no?

And yeah, I know what the link reads, but it seems that depending on the country/market they have different specs for the same product...for example, the only Western reference I can see about the 32AV500 is a spring press release in which they even state that it has 1 HDMI port, whereas my set clearly has 2.

Confusing? Definitely...but I don't think the PC utilities would lie...I know what "1080p-ready" is, it's what you mentioned, taking a 1080p signal and downscaling it...and I do believe that with DVD players and "1080p-ready" LCDs even if you choose 1080p that might happen...but do PCs really lie? How?
