  1. No, I mean checking out Phnom Penh, i.e. booking an AirAsia flight BKK-PNH-BKK and going to Siam Reap (and thus Angkor) by local transportation, afterward returning to catch a plane back to BKK. The trip each way (by bus) costs in the region of 10$ and takes 5 hours, with the road much better than the one from the Thai border to Siam Reap. So total cost 2500 Baht + 20$ for all major transportation. Not too bad, I reckon...

  2. So,... just to clarify things.... Does it mean, when rainy season comes the whole Internet bandwidth is affected by permanent disconnections?

I mean before I bought my new modem last year at around October, I had a lot of period of permanent disconnections several times a day, especially when it rained. Then one day, when my modem was really out of order for over a week, we called a technician, he checked our old modem and he said the security guarantee of the modem has expired over 6 months already,... that seemed true. So what he offered us to do was terminate our old contract and apply new, so we could get a modem for free.

Well since then and maybe with the weather being dry,... not such problems with disconnections,... not much problems with my current modem like last year....

... What do you think would I face the same disconnection dilemna like last year once the rainy season starts???? Does the rain really affect the stability of the already limited bandwidth Interne??????

This is a thread about satellite TV, which is not related to (phone-line) DSL Internet aside from being offered by the same retarded company...so your net should not go out because of the rain.

  3. Siam Reap Airways is a good airline (basically Cambodian Bangkok Airways), though not very cheap...the other airlines, I don't know, I wouldn't take my chances with an AN-24 over Cambodian skies :o

I haven't tried the boat, but it doesn't seem to be worthwhile in terms of time/features/price, I think the optimum price solution is bus/shared taxi as described in the above links...it's worth checking out Phnom Penh before going for an early start to Angkor the next day, it's a great town!

  4. I love KK!! I had no idea they had them in Indonesia or Philippines, I thought the closest place was Hong Kong...

I agree that they must be very bad for people's health, it's like sugar-based heroine...most people I know that have tried them are totally hooked.

  5. So why are you going to Phi Phi?

It is just a harbour where hundreds of tourists arrive every 10 minute. You cannot find a decent beach but maybe 50 restaurants, 30 diveshops and another 200 shops for diverse.

After 2 hours you want to take the boat to another place asap.

Go somewhere else! Anything is better than Phi Phi!

    :o:D:D

That's completely not true!! If you're stupid enough to stay right next to the pier and not expect lots of noise and people, tough luck! There are many other beaches, such as Laem Thong, which are STUNNING. Overpriced hotels & restaurants, yes...but the beaches are well worth it, imo.

  6. Well Thanni scoreing low marks so far...

Order.. Send money by bank.. Then AFTER they have my money and 48 hours after order.. Some of its not in stock (simple bits too.. Processor which they must sell volumes of)..

Why dont they check that before they get money wired to them !!!

There are occasional issues, i'm afraid...like their "1-2 day delivery by messenger", normally it's about 3-4 days, but such is life...i'm sure your stuff will arrive, just slightly delayed.

  7. Yes, you'll probably need a visa to enter Vietnam, which needs to be obtained in advance from their embassy here on Wireless Road (submit in the morning, get it next afternoon)

The Thai embassy in Hanoi is pretty straightforward and will sort you out within the same time schedule (submit before noon, get next afternoon), no queues either, by the looks of it...just get their street address before going there because I for one found it very difficult to get "Thai embassy/embassy Thailand" across to the Vietnamese taxi drivers.

  8. Hmm...the university in question is ABAC, the reason I even ask is because I know someone who did it (tourist to ED, actually), but I also know that it wasn't too easy and involved going to some other governmental agency on Viphawadee with some embassy-certified papers.

I would like to give it a try, a bit of running around is still less hassle than a visa run, so any idea about the steps involved?

  9. I've heard that it's possible to change your visa by going to the relevant authorities in Bangkok without re-exiting/entering the country.

The case in point is a business visa that needs to be changed to an ED visa for a new master's student in a local university. They said that the person needs to re-enter...is this the case? Can it be changed here through normal means or would tea money have to be involved?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
