I read, write, speak and understand Thai. Including many idioms or sayings.
"Hom Mali" being one of them.
Clearly you are only a beginner.

Thais will often use the same phrase for other things that smell great.
I think you'll find " Dhok Mali" is Jaskine flower.
To smell great is - มีกลิ่นหอมมาก
มีกลิ่นหอมมาก Mee glin hom maak.
In the Thai language Hom mali does not translate as to smell great.
Do you actualy speak Thai as you are making some weird posts?

Like I said, the Jasmine part is lost in translation. Your translation takes it too literally.
You stated that -
The "mali" bit is actually to enhance the reference to smelling good.
Wrong.
Mali is the Thai word for Jasmine flower. That is why it is called Jasmine rice because it has the aroma of the Jasmine flower.
My translation explains things clearly to those who do not read or write Thai.
ข้าวหอมมะลิ - Khao hom Mali - Rice that smells of the Jasmine flower.
Hence Jasmine rice.
Khao - ข้าว - Rice ,
Hom - หอม - to smell of ,
Mali - มะลิ - Jasmine flower.
It is only lost in translation if you translate it wrongly.

A correct translation of " Khao hom mali" would be "fragrant rice".
No not correct.
ข้าวหอมมะลิ - Khao hom Mali - Rice that smells of the Jasmine flower.
Khao - ข้าว - Rice ,
Hom - หอม - to smell of ,
Mali - มะลิ - Jasmine flower

I am currently in the UK and from what I've seen on the eVisa website the Non O (Retirement) 'Multiple' disappeared a week or more ago. In fact a few days ago one AN poster was writing that he intended to get a MENO based on retirement and I did post and ask 'can you really get one based on retirement?'.
Anyway, I now see for myself that the MENO based on Thai family has gone and its 'Single' only.
I should add that I am not new to getting these visas having had four MENO eVisas. The MENO based on Thai family DID disappear for a time when eVisa was initially introduced and was later reinstated.
It seems the eVisa site is hosted centrally in Thailand. I am guessing when users input their nationality it goes to a 'look up table' and pulls off a set of available options and requirements based on each country. Obviously someone has changed that data, either in error or by design.....
False information.
Disregard this post as it it fake news.

Had you already applied? You may have just beaten the deadline, or as i said there may be an error on the system
Maybe it is a system error as it displays clearly for my application that as yet have not submitted.

I have been doing this for nearly thirty years, in the good old days before the e-visa system there was always an option on the original paper forms one would tick the relevant box for either "tourist" or "non o " and then select the relevant box for the number of entries either single or multi.
However for some time now there is no paper form in many countries anymore, and all applications must be done online. The availability of multi entry non o's was withdrawn around the time the e visa system came online but was reinstated more recently.
If you or anybody else doesn't believe me then feel free to go look for yourselves on the website, you can explore the visa options available on the first page of the application process, there is no need to upload any personal information or documents at this stage in the application. As of this morning multi entry options for non o visas are not currently available
Just checked my application for multiple entry Non O from London based on retirement on the site and it is still available.

Non-imm O in Australia requires 90 days health insurance from an approved agency. None of the approved agencies I contacted provided 90 days insurance as all wanted 12 months for O-A visa. Pretty much makes non-imm O impossible to get in my country.
On the London Embassy website it also states you need health insurance however I received an email earlier in the week confirming that insurance is not needed for a Non O in London.
Maybe if you emailed them and asked you may be in luck as many of the Embassies have not up to date info on their websites.

Some options have been outlined in the thread.
Folk have the option of obtaining non O in own country prior to entering Thailand.
Another option is use of an agent
I agree obtaining a Non-O from your own country either a single entry or multi entry is a good option as you do not need a Thai bank account as you show proof of funds in your own country.
Once you have the Non -O you will then be able to apply for a Thai bank account.
Or as you suggest use an agent.

-
As the Non O has been issued already am I right to assume that I can go and extend a few days before the expiry date and there is no under consideration period.

Obviously you have a Thai bank account in your name only?
Yes have had various Bangkok bank accounts for 25 + years.

If I obtain a 90 day Non O from London when it comes to extending this at Udon for a year will the ฿800000 need to be in the bank on the day I apply for tge extension or for 2 months before?

Applied for a non O based on retirement from the Thai London embassy 4 months ago. Was a very simple online process and received visa within a few days. No insurance required. Needed to show £10k in a bank account for a 3 month period prior to application together with a few passport scans.
Obtained a re-entry permit and travelled to London during the 3 month visa.
I have since obtained a 12 month extension from Phuket immigration. That was quite a painful process (despite having all the necessary documentation and funds in place) and so was pleased I obtained the initial Non O online from London rather than left standing in the heat outside room 103 for hours just because I wasn’t using an agent.
So I take it you applied for the 3 month visa?
I was thinking of this but if no insurance is required am tempted by the multi entry 12 month.
So there was not part of the process where you had to fill in regarding insurance?
The initial reply to my post mentioned uploading *not applicable*
I really do not like thai jasmine rice that much

In the 31 years of reading, writting and speaking Thai I have made many mistakes along the way but have always been greatful to be corrected when wrong.
You clearly do not like to accept you are not as proficient in the Thai language as you think you are.
And quoting an idiom from Benjawan Poomsan Beckers series of learning Thai cd/booklets does not impress me.
