if you send it in USA dollars to arrive in USA dollars you will get a better conversion rate (onshore verses offshore). i dont know about the bank fees though.

horrific.
and very sad that some posters on that thread thought the man went too far in defending his family's lives.

with a thai work permit book, can a farang use one of the thai lines at immigration?

sounds like he tagged a personal holiday on the end of a business trip.
so whats the big deal?
he had to be here for business anyway, and he used some of his annual leave to take advantage of being here already.
he paid for his own hotel and expenses beyond what was required for the conference...
there is no additional expense for the taxpayer....
sounds like jealousy.

i dont use the club but the noise they send out in to the street on silom is annoying... they aim speakers out to the pedestrians...
simply go to thier website, click on contact info, and send them a message...

thanks for the answers...

there are a few silk screen tshirt printers just opposite wat jetyod.
you'll often see the shirts laid out to dry.
there are 2 there both on the corners of the intersection at the wat.

there must be someplace better than chatuchuk to buy good sized potted plants for a balcony...
a big nursery in bangkok somewhere?
thanks

what kind of underseal are we talking about here?
in the states they try to sell you an underspray and it is well regarded as a suckers bet, its basically a cheap useless rust spray if anything.
i assume that what you are talking about is something different as rust isnt the issue here.

does anyone know the price of wooden blinds, the ones made of real wood, about 2 inch slats?

i don't think the dishonesty or scamming has anything to do with the thai race.
it's economics- poor people trying to get ahead, combined with lack of law enforcement.
this doesn't happen as much in the USA because someone would report it to the police, who seem to love to do their job, and the scammer would be in handcuffs and a jail cell in minutes.
here they are poor, and know they can get away with the crime. if caught, a smile is their legal defense.

i think he's referring to the bridge past the dusit thani....

i dont want to get in the spat here, so for informational purposes i'll just say that i have l lived in both the basic 7,000 baht room outside the city center and a 40k place in the cbd.
i lived in the 7k room when i was a bit of a vagrant and it was enough for me at the time. had a decent bathroom, hot water and a little balcony with a view. tall cielings and a wood floor. i made it nice inside and it was all i needed at the time.
when i became full time employed in bkk i moved up to a 2 br place in the city and its nice. i like having a kitchen. i can walk to the office, shopping and restaurants.
and now as my job grows, and my family as well, i'm buying a very big nice place.
for me it is all about living within your means and needs.

i believe in freedoms, but i also think that we are at a critical point where a lot of these preventative measures might need to become laws, enforced laws, in order for them to actually make a difference.

well in case anyone else was curious, i found out.
unfortunately due to some new rules set about at the time of the world trade bombings, i cannot simply wire a big sum from my bank in usa to overseas/thailand.
there may be ways around it tho.....

the usufruct seems to be the way to go if you want to own something here.
it grants you all the rights to the property and is different from a regular lease in that, as stated, can last your lifetime, and if you we're to have a falling out with your wife, she doesnt have access to the property or to enter it, as i have been told...
-
this is probably a dumb question, but i'm admittedly banking illiterate.
do i need to be physically present in the US to transfer a big amount to thailand,
or can it all be done right here with me in thailand with the thai bank verifying my identity/details?
they are different bank companies.
thanks.

a friend got me the following info from UOB
they are offering a first year at about 2.99 or 3.99%
after that its like 7.55% or such!
i have nothing to compare it to, and need to do some homework for sure.
any info on interest rates and repayment periods appreciated. i am legally employed here and can borrow thru my wife.

i don't mind if they build 25% or whatever % less new condos...
it's just regulating the supply, dictated by market demand,
and it means those who have bought will have a better chance of renting out or selling.
-
Particularly in regards to corporate/industrial i certainly would.
One viewing of al gore's movie had me convinced.
A businesses' purpose is quite simply to make money, but i don't see why that can't be done with regard for the planet we need to live on.

thx jrbkk
i believe i can borrow thru my thai wife where i am the 'guarantor'...
just curious on the other bits....

anyone with a few spare minutes that can explain financing basics for buying a condo here would be appreciated.
honestly don't know much about current desirable interest rates, and plusses and minusses of different length of loan terms, and lastly is it beneficial to put most of my savings into it to reduce interest on loan, etc, or better to put the minimum down.
thanks and apologies for my ignorance on this.

#3 is the one that i fear.
will be curious/eager to see some opposing viewpoints on that one.
-
good question mad,
but i think it is unlikely the farang quota will go down as it seems unlikely that thais would buy a second hand condo.

you're right. there's hardly any time to turn down the radio and talk things out with someone who's firing a gun at your wife and child to be.
glad to hear the man's actions have been cleared as self defense.
