  1. Making complex things simple is not easy for the elderly

Scenario- elderly mother wants to listen to music, and about the max we can teach her is Hey Siri, play music “

Pushing buttons on speaker , re connecting blue tooth - forget it

Just looked at B&O, JBL and many brand brands , after turning off Bluetooth, and turn on again, need to manually reconnect

Looking for a speaker which is always on standby and auto reconnects w iPhone when she gets home

    Advice appreciated

  2. What change are you talking about? the only flagged changes are that the sponsor may need sponsorship approval first, but that's been deferred for now by the Department of Home Affairs.

Do you understand that you need to be in Australia to apply for (and granted) 820/801 partner visa?

Offshore you would apply for the 309/100 partner visa, and have to be offshore when applying/granted.

Neither of these temporary visas require your partner to live in Australia, but will require visits, the bigger issue will be getting a resident return visa if too long is spent outside Australia once the permanent visa (100/801) is granted.

Your situation is achievable, but would require very careful future planning (years into the future) and good knowledge of the system to get everything lined up and that's if things don't change in the future.

Thanks for the advice - am obviously a noob

  3. just checking in.... seems to be a change to Australian 801/820 marriage visa ?

Situation - Me and Children have Ozzie passports, Mrs still on Thai. We live here, and probably will be here for a long time to come, but we are thinking about going to oz for the boys education.

in the past, unless permanently residing in oz, there was no real option other than tourist Visa's, but the wording seems to have changed now.

    Any advice ?

Yeah, I was a bit quick off the mark to flame your post. Sorry bout that. Are your parents Thai or farang ? Could make a difference in the type of toy you are researching. I think if could recharge when battery low, mobile phone companies would have already cornered the market. Have you Googled Sony robot dog ?

    cheers..

    Sony nice...but $3000

  5. Parents moving to aged care home for better support, but cant take pets.

Anyone one know of a robotic toy dog or something which can

    - can self charge when bat low

    - can do things without programming

    - generally be amusing / a distraction

    Thanks

  6. Twin boys both got the flu and are almost better after a week - a bit of a runny nose still. Got some medication from the doctor and he's okay with them to fly and they are generally chirpy

Main question - at what point are they better off fighting the next flu or cold?

    - In a few weeks from now ?

    - Or now ?

I'm not a doctor, and I'm making an assumption that their immune system would be more active just after a cold ? ( personally I can never remember getting the flu after having flu)

  7. Have the ancestral house the Mrs grew up in in Ladprao which has been vacant for 10 years. ( we live in Bangna ).  As expected, I has been gutted by thieves, and we just started to fix it up to rent out. ( contractors).

Almost done, but am worried about thieves showing up again, so have a Nest Camera installed ( works real good - already saw 2 girls come survey the house ).

Am going to install a WeMo switch which can be triggered by Nest Camera via IFTTT which can ie turn on lights in a room ( like someone is home)...

But would like to install a cheap alarm I can trigger if I get an alert if someone is on the premises....  Any suggestions ? one idea is another Wemo I can link to a klaxon of some sort.

    Thanks

  8. I would never fly with a UAE based airline again and now always fly direct when visiting Europe. One incident started in Doha and continued in-flight when a drunken male was allowed to travel, and the other was a complaint about a stop-over in Amman when passengers were kept waiting for transport to pre-arranged hotel accommodation. The staff at the hotel were not very happy having to check-in 20 passengers at 02.00hrs, most of whom were directed to unprepared rooms. (no towels etc).
I wrote to both airlines but never even received an acknowledgment. Enough said!!

    Yep - Abu Dhabi

  9. I am not sure how successful you will be in your complaint. If the airlines policy is that their doctor has to clear the passenger as fit to fly and you hadn't done this the airline staff were probably right in not letting your mother fly. The doctor himself probably could have advised you of this and the airline staff at the hub should have spelled it out when you were reorganising the onward flight. This seems to be where the airline could have done better.

Thanks - she was cleared by the Airlibe Dr.

Trying to board many hours later with clearance report in hand , boarding staff refused boarding as " need to see the Airlne Dr"

The sent her to "their Dr" who was the same guy. He was baffeled as to why she was not in the flight

She was so stressed by this her blood pressure dropped and she almost went into shock

  10. This will be a "duh" post for medical professionals, but just want to share my experience.

BP been about 135/90 to 140/90, some where in that range for a very long time, BMI was around 31.

BMI now dropped to about 28 ( - 12 KG) , and BP for last week in the range of about 110/75 to 120/80

Thought I would share for those worried (as I was a little) about BP increases.

  11. Pretty serious case, my elderly mother almost died flying from Oz to Europe, not the airline issue, but just her blood pressure dropped very un expectantly. Good news is we got her home safe, and she is doing well, but the airline stranded her in their hub. They claim it was because of her condition, but actually was was cleared by the Airline ( airport ) physician to go home, but boarding staff did not let her board, claiming she had to be cleared by "their" physician, which turned out to be the same guy.

Anyway, they are playing the corporate politics game " for her safety, we wanted her to rest", but its trollup as we have an extremely detailed write up of the event.

Will take it to the next level, snail mail to all board of directors, but was wondering if anyone knows of ie regulatory bodies ie IATA which we can approach too.

Very disgusted with how they treated an old frail women who went through a life threatening experience .

    Thanks
