The honda uses old tech, but reliable....but the skyactiv engines have numerous problems, both diesel and pertrol. There is even a facebook page dedicated to it. Mazda service is also patchy. https://www.facebook.com/groups/697776027228278/

Never had a problem of any kind with my 2014 Mazda 3 in 60,000km and now have a CX30 for almost a year and 10,000km with no problems.

Years ago I had to make a similar choice between a CRV and a Fortuner. I took a test drive with the CRV, sat behind the wheel of the Fortuner, and didn't even start the engine; I wanted a car, not a truck.

BTW I find the CX 5 attractive but right now I'd buy another CRV, as the Honda service is great, and their network, here in Issan, is more developed than Mazda's. But I might be different I that, for me, buying a car is buying a long term transportation service, not an object of devotion.

I find the Mazda service in Korat very good. I owned a 2014 Mazda 3 and now a 2020 CX30 always serviced at the dealer. I didn't need anything larger than the CX30 as there is only 2 of us in the family and the wife thought the CX5 to large for her taste.

  3. I don't think Mazda has a certified used car department. You can try checking the cars for sale on this site as most are expat owned and probably taken care of better than most Thai owners. You can also check with the Sales Manger at the local Mazda dealer and see if anyone wants to sell their old Mazda in order to buy a new Mazda. This way there are service records on the used car. The Sales Manager at my Mazda dealer found me a buyer for my 2014 Mazda 3 when I bought my new Mazda CX30.

  4. Had 3BB for years. They are still charging me 599 baht for an original 2Mbps account that I opened 10 years ago that has now been upgraded to a fiber optic 100Mbps.

  5. Don't know about Jomtien but in Korat they will take a copy of the resident form so you do not have to buy 2. You can usually get the certificate the same day. Price varies by office, usually 200 to 500 baht range. Medical certificate varies by office but since they are cheap I would get one just in case. I have renewed my 5 year a couple times and one time they asked for the medical certificate and the next they did not. Always better to have more paperwork than less.

I was not talking about embassy cars,  I was talking about the personal car the embassy and consulate bring over for people that are stationed here.

Hard to imagine GIs at that time having enough disposable income to buy a car and bring it over.

GIs bought their cars over because of free shipping (military picked up the bill) and rather than ship them home sold them to rich Thais as they were just used cars and not yet classic cars. Also back then Thais that went to school abroad could bring in their cars that they bought abroad without import tax. Not anymore as no one now can import a used car.
