  1. Actually it shows the opposite. The election result was ratified the next day. The inauguration of President Biden took place as scheduled. The threat was almost non-existent. The rioters were ejected and arrested within hours. The American system is far stronger than many people give credit for. This just proves it.
  2. This article says the ISIS flag has been displayed more than 300 times in New South Wales alone. https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/islamic-state-flag-flown-over-300-times-in-nsw-in-last-six-years-20211130-p59dje.html and with no penalty. And communism has been a hate group since its inception. Ask the 100 million who died as a result. The hammer and sickle are just as repugnant as the swastika. Nah, if you want to emasculate and lessen the impact of hate groups, the way to do so is not legal. Laugh at them, ridicule them, ignore them, defeat their ideas in the court of public opinion. But don't give them the 'cool factor' of being outlaws.
  3. Would you say the same for symbols of communism? Al Qaeda? Any number of hate groups in the world. I would say that Naziism is definitely defeated. You could take every neoNazi in Australia and they wouldn't even fill a minor league soccer stadium. Any you won't do them any harm by this law either.
  4. Those specific limits are also limits in most countries. But they do not apply to the new law. This legislation creates a talismanic kind of fear in certain articles that they dont deserve. I could be just walking down the street quietly, wearing my SS t-shirt, and be arrested. For wearing a t-shirt. I am always wary of bringing the power of the State against people for their thoughts, however repugnant. You can't kill an idea by removing its trappings.
  5. More the pity that the constitution does not do that. Sadly few countries do. But banning public display of symbols will do nothing to curtail the activities of these idiots. Just make them feel more outraged and feed their conspiracy theory nonsense. The only way to fight a bad idea is with a better one. Don't add fuel to the fire by giving them any reason to feel hard done by, especially by the government. Plus the law also bans the private sale of this kind of thing, for whatever the reason. So if collector A wants to sell his old German flag to collector B, he is breaking the law. So not just a speech issue, but one of business as well.
  6. ...and how about far left wing ideologies? They going to ban the hammer and sickle soon? Or pictures of Mao or Che Guevara? Tolerance is one of the cornerstones of a diverse and free society. A couple morons waving the flags of a defeated nation won't have any influence at all. Just laugh at them and ignore them. By giving them a grievance you only make them feel persecuted.
  7. What a terrible idea. Are Australians really so delicate that the mere sight of a historical symbol will give them the vapors? I think they are stronger than that. Better to let these cranks and idiots in public and ridicule them rather than drive them underground.
  8. I know, that is what I said. So, having illegal migrants contributes to the problem of otherwise able bodied Americans not being in the workforce.
  9. Nicholas Eberstadt wrote about this earlier this year- a very good article IMHO: https://www.nationalaffairs.com/publications/detail/education-and-men-without-work What you say is part of the truth. Also the competition from illegal workers which drive wages down in certain jobs. Also changing family structure (fewer marriages and children) and dependency on various government assistance programs. Worth a read.
  10. ...and yet another variation of the "but Trump...." defence used for anything Biden related. Hunter was a drug addled nobody who was given a sinecure by a company seeking influence with the US government.
  11. Curious, how do you see the rest of the candidates? Which are palatable... I saw Senator Scott on TV (The View) and he handled himself very well. Showed grace and character when he was being needled by the harpies. To be honest I am not sold on DeSantis at all. Ramaswamy is a sharp guy but really too young, he is probably angling for a cabinet post.
  12. Not a bad outcome. For me, keeping Biden/Harris/Trump ALL far from the White House is the best possible outcome. Hopefully with a principled and decent conservative in their place.
  13. Sounds like a lot of fear on the left, disguised as sputtering vituperation with a side dish of snide.
  14. Just remember how he made Marco Rubio look like a fool in 2016... Christie helped Trump doing debate prep in the 2020 campaign. From what I have heard in Christie interviews, Trump was not a good student. Christie may not get the nomination, but he can do a "murder suicide" like he did on Rubio and clear the field for someone else. Then get rewarded as VP or perhaps Attorney General.
  15. Gotta say I like big Chris too. He is very sharp, has a New Jersey bulldog kind of personality. I just dont see what his constituency is. As I have said before, my dream is Christie/Kristi for the win.
  16. True. Because alongside the wages, there are also incentives to NOT work- especially overly generous social programs. Plus overly kind parents who let their adult children skulk around the family home well past when they should be living as independent adults. And partners in relationships who let their partners get away with being lazy. Nicholas Eberstadt wrote about this in his book "Men Without Work" published in 2016 and re-edited in 2022 to account for Covid.
  17. Be sure to also check out workforce participation numbers. Lots of able bodied people are sitting on the sidelines. Or rather, on the sofa.
  18. Anyone polling upwards of 20% against an incumbent is a serious contender. Nutbagger status or not.
  19. Worse for the Democrats would be a RFK Jr independent campaign. Which he just might do if he is ignored by the party heirarchy.
  20. I think the point is that it was advertised as an "all ages" event. Which it was most obviously not. This just feeds into the idea that trans people for some reason are very eager to have children exposed to their lifestyle and fetishes.
  21. Actually it does because it draws attention away from the actual flag. The Pride flag is not inclusive. It is a political statement. Ask some veterans if they feel "included" by it.
  22. 1992, Bush was primaried by Pat Buchanan. 1980, Carter was primaried by Ted Kennedy 1976, Ford was primaried by Ronald Reagan 1968, LBJ was primaried by Eugene McCarthy
  23. Broken clock is right. We agree! I agree with your "alas" 100%. Seems the Democratic party is handcuffed. They need to pray that Trump wins the GOP nomination. To be honest I don't think Joe would stand a chance against one of the other possible candidates.
