  1. No convenient definition- everyone knows a "town hall" style meeting is intended as a way for a politician to interact directly with their constituents, and for the constituents to let their feelings be known without being filtered. It was NOT an "interview". The anchor used by CNN attempted to make it into an interview but was ultimately not successful. The focus should be the audience and not the journalist.
  2. Not victim blaming at all. IF New York had a functioning mental health department he might still be alive, and getting treatment. IF New York had sufficient policing on the subway, the guy might have been taken into custody safely. "The killer" knew he was facing a deranged man making threats, throwing garbage at people, screaming. What was he supposed to do- let innocent people get hurt? Just slink away?
  3. Not a fantasy at all. Based on the video of the situation, and what I know about fighting. Anyone who has any training in submission style combat would agree. You dont release a hold until your opponent is out.
  4. Looks to me like he DID try. But when you are in a situation where you are trying to submit someone, and they are on top of you, you cannot release the hold until you are sure that the other person is unconscious. The marine was on the bottom. If he let the guy go and the guy wasnt out, it would be very dangerous. The guy could renew his attack, start kicking/punching, maybe draw a weapon.... nah. Once you have put someone in a submission style hold like that you are committed.
  5. Talk to anyone who has ridden the subway in NYC lately. It is not good. Not safe. No police in sight. No escape when you are in a deep hole in the ground, trapped in a metal tube, and confronted by an aggressive man with obvious mental health problems. In this case, the deceased had more than 40 previous arrests. Fourty. Including assault on an elderly woman and attempted kidnapping of a child. There is NO WAY he should have been on the street roaming free. As for the brave Marine who did the right thing, he deserves a commendation. He stepped in to protect his fellow New Yorkers from a threat. Also notice in the video footage that, once he felt Neely had been subdued, he and others tried to HELP him. They rolled him into the "recovery position" and still had to wait for any law enforcement. IMHO he did his best in a bad situation.
  6. I think both sides got what they wanted. CNN got ratings- nearly 10 times their normal for that time slot. Trump got exposure and showed that he can still stand up to a hostile journalist. The audience got to see that "The Trump Show" still has a few episodes left. Couple interesting points to me. First, CNN spent a lot of time and effort to set up the Town Hall. Then in the segment following it there were legions of CNN personalities crying and rending their garments, decrying THEIR OWN EMPLOYER for doing so! A sight to behold. Second, they need a better moderator and format next time. Kaitlyn (sp) was not up to the job, and as is normal with modern journalists tried to make the show about HER. A Town Hall is to let the candidate and the people interact, not for the moderator to constantly interject and debate with the candidate. They spent more than 20 minutes talking about January 6, and about 3 minutes on the economy. Third, Trump is still an entertainer. He was also more disciplined in his answers than I saw in 2016. I don't want him to be the candidate, but he is going to be hard to unseat. Perhaps in the end, that is what CNN is hoping for.
  7. I think the good congressman is underestimating the scale of the problem.
  8. What is wrong with "cuck"? A perfectly servicable English word that The Bard used as well. I am coming from a place with a sense of humour, not afraid to laugh at the absurd or outrageous.
  9. They can protest. They can't expect to riot or burn businesses or assault people with impunity. If they do, they might meet a little pushback. I agree that Abbot screwed the pooch on this one.
  10. Given the current "c plant" craze in Thailand, I figure a music video that appears to have been made with a small bag of the Devil's Lettuce and perhaps a fifth of Jack Daniel's would be appropriate. A raging riff of epic proportions...
  11. That's actually pretty funny as memes go. But seriously this guy seems to have gone over the line. I am normally a fan of protesters getting what they deserve but that isn't the case here. Perry fully deserves his sentence.
  12. Interesting graphics. Shows that his popularity was actually DEcreasing in the years leading up to the war. Any idea why?
  13. Oh, he will. They are already circling the wagons. No debates for the Democratic primaries etc. Plus if he drops, then the Democrats are basically forced to push Harris to the top spot. And that would be a disaster of epic proportions. As for Trump, I hope the GOP will come to their senses and nominate someone else.
  14. Good lord, do we actually..........agree........... on something? Time to buy a lottery ticket!
  15. I am starting to think it may all be part of a cunning plot on the part of CNN. Much like how the Democratic Party deliberately supported radical GOP candidates in the run up to the 2022 mid term elections. They want Trump as the GOP nominee because they think he is beatable. More than any of the other candidates. So they give him a forum and a relatively receptive audience to work his magic with. And it just might work.
  16. Doesnt make them Trump supporters. He has many detractors in the party at all levels. Not to mention the independents... seems like it backfired on CNN.
  17. You really think "raw story" is a credible source? I would like to hear how the writer came to this conclusion. New Hampshire is not exactly GOP country- Biden won it in 2020.
  18. It does if you are Joe Biden. CNN is I am sure regretting this decision. The audience was firmly on Trump's side, he got in some good digs at the Democrats, and was able to play the entertainer (one of his strong points).
  19. Whatever. It was a typical bit of Trump BS to make that claim. Congress should have funded it without hesitation. Turns out that 5 border walls could have been constructed for the same amount as has been thrown away on aid to Ukraine.
  20. Not much of a "town hall". As is so often the case, the moderator couldn't help but hogging the spotlight and trying to debate Trump. I don't think there were any questions at all from the attendees for the first 30 minutes. Trump made a good case as to why the Russians chose to invade Ukraine under Biden. He was stupid to spend too much time discussing his recent court case, but that is his style. Not known for being introspective or cautious. In all, a good night for Trump. The obvious contrast between his speaking ability, particularly in a spontaneous setting, and the current President was there for all to see.
  21. Ten thousand people a day are crossing the border illegally. Ten thousand. IF Congress had funded the construction of a border barrier- call it a wall, fence, whatever, and backed it up with real force, this would not be happening. But sadly congressman Hank Johnson of Georgia let the cat out of the bag. He said; "Those folks coming across the border are the ones who are helping to put food on our table. Without them, we are not able to eat... We would have nobody taking care of the construction of our homes, nobody cleaning up in the hospitals." In other words, we need brown people to do the crap jobs in this country. What a racist.
  22. Curiosity. But a good sign nonetheless.
  23. Times have changed just a little in the intervening 140 years. In any case, the Statue of Liberty was meant to celebrate the end of slavery in the United States, not immigration.
  24. Consider that Biden has been in office for just over 2 years, then redo the math. Over a full 4 year term we are looking at 500 days. Plus he is rarely/never available to the press, either for interviews or press conferences. Also works from 10-4 most days, if not less. I am sure he can safely take care of immigration policy from his beach house.... wonder if Governor Abbot has plans to send some "pre-Americans" to Delaware?
