  1. You know, if it could be done, then I would say go for it. Hope you are right. Also, the crude needs to be processed and refined before shipping, and the biggest refineries in Canada are in the east. So in the long run it may be easier to use existing ports/refineries and build a pipeline than to make a much shorter pipeline but need to build a new deepwater port facility.
  2. Conservative voter here. I did not vote for Carney, never voted for Trudeau. But, I think he did OK. His mission was to meet the neighbours, shake hands, and go home. He left it up to his delegates to meet with Trump's people and actually start working on a deal. In the meantime, chat, sit, smile, and go home. I think Trump will like Carney for a few reasons. First, Carney is rich. He is a banker. He has academic pedigree. He "looks" serious. He has a New York connection. And Trump hated Trudeau with the fire of a thousand suns. I'm not willing to defenestrate Carney until he proves himself worthy. I'm hoping he becomes a patriot more than a globalist, a Chretien/Martin type of Liberal. At the end of the day, he is my Prime Minister and I will wish him good fortune and hope he is responsible in his stewardship of our nation.
  3. I believe he is Peruvian, not Chilean. Agree that he seems like a decent fellow. The world needs a strong voice to stand up against extremism and bigotry.
  4. You are spinning like a top. I am sure some in the military, with even a glancing knowledge of logistics and weather, sent repeated messages to POTUS saying this was a bad idea. But Biden was trapped by his party into doing "something" sympathetic for the Gazans. The tightrope the report walked about the injuries also says a lot. Also, consider what happened to the supplies that actually made it onshore. As soon as the trucks were off the pier, they were stopped and looted by Hamas. Yet another catastrophic failure by Joe and his merry band of leftists.
  5. I doubt that 300 metre long tankers and LNG carriers would ever be able to manoeuver into Hudson's Bay, regardless of the climate. Even if the shipping lane were marginally open in winter, the drift ice would make it unspeakable dangerous.
  6. Minimum 10 years. It is a LOOONG way from Alberta to the east coast.
  7. It is a great idea but difficult to do. The province of Quebec is very very pro "clean" energy and is reluctant to allow a pipeline through their territory. Then there are the natives to pacify/bribe.... Another line to the west coast, to supply Asia, would be easier. Best of all would be to build refineries to turn our own crude oil into usable products, THEN ship them overseas. But the previous government stood in the way of all that for a decade. I have to confess that Carney has been a pleasant surprise up to now. I am a died in the wool Conservative and was dreading a continuation of the previous Trudeau government's policies. Fingers crossed...
  8. I am hoping you are right. If we see 2008 Carney and not 2020 Carney, Canada will have a prayer. Not surprised the meeting went well. First of all, Trump simply hated Trudeau- Justin represented everything Trump abhors. Plus, Carney has academic pedigree, which Trump respects. He is also rich, which Trump respects. Ditto for being a banker. And of "a certain age"- not a young smarmy kid.
  9. The US is out biggest trade partner and biggest export market. 80% of our crude oil goes to the US. It will take years to rearrange the trade loci and build the necessary infrastructure to correct this.
  10. Nah, the latter was already done by the former Prime Minister of Canada...
  11. Yeah, farming skills. It takes more than a strong back to run an industrial-sized farm. Just ask Zimbabwe how things went when they drove out all the skilled farmers.
  12. Perhaps because they don't bring marketable skills, expertise, and wealth?
  13. The murder rate in SA in general is hideous. Nearly 8 TIMES the rate in the States. How it breaks down racially- who are the victims and who are the kilers, is an interesting question. As for the land being "stolen", a sticky issue. Without specific theft victims and specific criminals it is impossible to fairly judge. If the US were smart, they would invite ANY farmer with skills to emigrate. To say that the SA government is just attacking real estate is disingenuous. The violence against farmers is real. "Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer" is a populist chant at rallies across that country.
  14. Only if they agree to join and vote for the Democratic Party.
  15. You are 100% correct. I like what the Bad Orange Man is doing for the States, but I was cringing every time he opened his mouth about my country. I was screaming "STFU" in my head. It was a funny joke (Governor Trudeau) the first time. After that..... if just fed into the media narrative that was already present. It was the number one motivating factor for 60 year old plus voters. Opportunity lost. I am now hoping that pragmatic Carney is the guy we actually elected. 2008 Carney, not 2020 Carney. Time will tell. I just have to pray that he does a good job and wish him well.
  16. TBH, I don't really care who was the first to propose it, suggest it, hint at it, manipulate it, or fold it into a paper airplane. If it gets the war over with, I am for it. This should really rise beyond political fukkery.
  17. That is a large herd of dead horses you are flogging there... As for the topic at hand, I can only answer for what happened in Canada. The media really overplayed the so-called "Trump threat". People foolishly fell for it, and forgot the results of the previous 10 years of Liberal mismanagement of the economy. Now, the Conservatives also screwed the pooch. Their campaign was caught flat footed when the PM was forced to resign. I am curious what the demographic spread of the vote will be in Oz. In Canada, the biggest groups to prop up the Liberals were Boomers, government workers, and the upper middle class. The conservative vote was younger, less affluent, and more male.
  18. By "migrants", do you mean illegal aliens?
  19. I believe Walz is actually changing jobs. He is going to be the US Ambassador to the UN.
  20. The "mysterious" reason may be that the Liberal government in Canada drove the value of the Canadian Rupee down to 40% below parity. Ain't much fun seeing a $10 price tag and it actually being $14. Funny kind of dictatorship where the 'dictator' won by the most votes, won both houses of Congress, and so on. Then again, perhaps you have a different definition of "dictator" than I do. Seems to me the Jingthing definition of "dictator" is: "any leader that I don't like"...
  21. Really? I guess you havent heard, but illegal border crossings are down 95% since he took office. NGOs and other groups who were profiting from caring for all the "pre-Americans" crossing from Mexico are going out of business. Perhaps his signature issue from the 2024 campaign, and it is mission accomplished. Also deporting more than 10,000 illegals a month. So yeah, hasn't done anything yet...
  22. As an aside, how many interviews has Trump done in his first100 days? How many pressers, airforce one talks, etc? The man is not afraid of the press, unlike his predecessor...
  23. "All about Trump" seems to describe the obsession that many on this forum have. Almost a....syndrome of sorts? The actual issue of deporting gang members and other undesirables gets lost in the frenzy to play "gotcha".
  24. So, the original tats are just a random collection of symbols that were put together with no thought other than their artistic appeal? Come on, man. To quote Joe Biden, "this is a bad dude".
  25. Kinda irrelevant though, the two were really talking past each other, trying to get their respective talking points in. And Garcia had his day in court, many times. You want him as a neighbour?
