I'm with ya-Pattaya works for me-too much traffic in BKK and living with the buffalo aint gettin' it-cheaper than most reasonably civilized places-the night scene is there if you want it but easy to ignore if you dont-downside is that its a really small town after you've been here a while-perfer Phuket but its even smaller in terms of permanent residents-and we know how people love to talk

  2. You should of put her in line from the start, anyways i guess we will never hear her side of the story either she is a nut or your not telling us the whole truth

And I would lie to a stranger becuz...? Granted I should have put her in line and I accept responsibilty for creating a monster-no good deed goes unpunished and I am guilty of being too nice to her-and she is certifiably insane-and as a footnote the cops did want 10% of the gross for repoing the gold and bike-seemed reasonable-Is that the going rate?

I was just hoping to wind you up, thats all.

And people lie to strangers and make things up all the time.

Dude-it takes way more than that to wind me up-next time try insulting my dog

  4. what did she assault you with ?

    what did you do?

What I did was tell her to leave-simple case of jealousy over imaginary infidelitys and I got bored with hearing the accusations everyday-have no reason to lie to you so believe me when i say I never butterflied on her-assault weapons were creative I must say-the usual knife/fingernail/miscellenious household items but then she escalated to bike helmets/pepperspray and my personal favorite-a kamakazi attack by throwing herself down on the street in front of my moving bike as I went to have lunch-girl was so crazy that the police sided with methefarang instead of their own-now that should tell you something huh?

  5. I think that if you are going to have some sort of committed relationship then you have to accept the fact that financial support is going to be part of it-the gold thing is of course required but sensible limits need to be imposed-phone, monthly tithe,clothes-again I feel it is required but again and this is critical-within reason-the big ticket items(bar-new house-etc) hey man if you feel like rolling the dice up to you-accept that anything that goes out aint comin back-drew the line at family support and businesses and got the gold back in the breakup after she assaulted me but thats a tired story here that nobody wants to hear again-even a poor farang is rich by Thai standards and the family in the province really has nothing better to do than think of ways to separate cash and foriegner-as evidenced on this forum there are many success stories but a disproportionate amount of horror stories-and there is a reason cliches are cliches(has something to do with being true)

  6. It is a nice change to read about positive relationships when the other half is Thai. I have had my ear bent on several times from friends moaning, she does this, she does that! Its good to go into the relationship being aware of the horror stories, but also going into the relationship understanding each others cultures is important too.

I have a friend who has a Thai wife, but neither of them are making any effort to understand each others languages, so they have this barrier and he wonders why he is miserable!

Just a shout for us English gals as well! We can make pretty ###### good wives as well! I like football and me and my boyf always watch it together. I let him go out with his mates and do anything he likes! We have a great relationship and we have had comments from people saying 'I wish I had what you have!'

Its a very equal relationship mine, and I think thats the secret to most relationships.

With the buying shoes thing, that is very normal in all females in all

countries. I think its in our genetic make-up! :o

Off thread but could someone please please please explain the freakin' shoe thing to me?

  7. The Philippines was second on my list after Thailand. Good Food ??? Not that I found. The lack of infrastructure, typhoons, earthquakes and volcanoes not to even mention crime made Thailand an easy choice for me. Shotgun armed guards in KFC made me a little nervous. :o

That was a good point well put whynot?.... :D

    totster :D

And I did it again-sorry wrong key-but probably the brightest thing I'll say all day

And the signs at the doors of bars: "please leave your firearms with attendents" What!? And the food blows...and very expensive considering what the place is like...and lets not even talk about taking a 20 min taxi ride when you can walk it in 5 min...the biggest plus I found was that alot more people speak english as compared to LOS

  11. 'you can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friends' noses'

    remember that...

I got all freaky the first time my Thai girlfriend picked my nose-now I get irritated when she doesnt know it needs picking-funny the things you get used to and come to expect

  12. Yes...

    It is me.

Whilst I love a drink, it makes me feel better, gives me confidence, helps pass the time, lets me dream about all that I wish I had, and satisfies my thirst. I have come to the conclusion that I need to stop.

Last night I drank a whole bottle of vodka, the night before I did the same. My nightly consumption is a bottle of vodka, or 8-12 700ml bottles of beer.

I was drinking with my boss tonight and I told him how much I drink, he was shocked. He told me I come to work everyday and he had no idea I drink so much.

However, I really truly want to stop it.

So I made a deal with my boss, as of monday I will stop drinking and stop smoking. I am on 3 packs a day.

He will also stop drinking and smoking.

PLEASE wish me luck. I have a really bad drinking problem, alcohol calls to me, it says drink me, drink me and I listen.

I really want to do this, and I just hope I have the will power.\

Tonight is the last night I can get pissed, and tomorrow is the last day I can smoke.

Please wish me luck and help me guys. I want to be old enough to see my two girls grow into two fine women.

    Love you all.

  13. Editor,

Yesterday my attorney went into the Pattaya Land Office to register a land transfer for a parcel of land in Pattaya from a private Thai name (seller) into a Thai company name (buyer). I (a farang) was listed as a 49% shareholder and Five Thais were listed as the 51% shareholders in the company. For many previous transactions over many years, this has always satisfied the government regulations and the name change on the land title deed papers was always approved. Now- so sorry- new government directive from Bangkok. 1) all shareholders must be present at the land office and their identities verified for this type of transfer to occur. 2) if there are any foreign shareholders, the change will not be approved. Over 40 transactions were rejected the first day of this new directive. Effectively this prevents any foreigner from investing in new property transactiions; land or houses in Thai company names and condo projects exceeding the 49% foreign ownership rule. Way to go Thailand - a great way to make this country investor friendly!

    Signed,

    Looking Elsewhere

Way to go Thai is about right-does anybody have any clue as to how this new rule will benefit Thailand? Seems to me it will only serve to blow out farang investment in the Kingdom-why?

  14. I've lived in Thailand now for 4 years, in that time I have actively learned the language in its written & spoken form. I don't claim to be fluent by any stretch of the imagination but my knowledge of the language goes quite far beyond the usual 20 questions in a taxi routine, and my understanding of Lao is fairly good as well.

Here's my issue, it's not a massive thing but once in while it does get a tad frustrating. My wife's big sister refuses to speak with me in Thai. Now don't get me wrong, if someone speaks English with a degree of competance and obviously wishes to speak in English then i'll quite happily speak in English.

The thing is her English consists of a few words, no more. I've tried to speak to her in Thai about a number of different subjects (stuff in the Thai news etc) and my replies usually consist of a broken English comment about food. In fact the only thing she ever says to me in Thai is "saeb mai?" when i'm eating, and when I say saeb in return it results in a fit of giggles as if she still can't believe I can eat "som tam phet phet".

In every other way this sister is perfect but I don't understand this one thing. By the way i'm quite happy to help her with her English but she doesn't really listen if I teach her new vocabulary.

And this situation doesn't come with unfriendliness as she is always smiling and helpful, has anyone else experienced something like this? I should also add that I am able to conduct conversations in Thai with all other members of the family with no problems in understanding.
