Thai passport holders need a visa to visit New Zealand. Tourist visas used to be processed overnight, then it was more like a week. Latest I have heard is that 2 to 3 weeks is the norm.

The Mrs reported problems with the Bangkok Bangkok site a month ago which lasted several hours, and that was not the first time. It usually comes right later in the day....so hopefully it's nothing urgent you need to do and with a bit of luck it will all be working again real soon.

Some things have gone up a lot, other things not to much.
I don't know if condo rents have gone up that much and taxi rates have not gone up too badly. But prices in restaurants and bars have sure gone up.
The real killer is the strengthening of the baht and how most of us get a lot less baht for our dollar / pound / euro. To me, that is where I really notice it. It's one thing saying a meal has gone up from 230 to 300 baht, but when I am getting about 25% less baht for my dollar, it hurts.

I'm going to get the basic spec 16-inch as that will do everything I need well. I don't need more grunt of the more powerful speced machines nor do I need more internal storage.
The price here is 81,600 baht equivalent so it works out a bit cheaper than the Thai price, but a bit more expensive than the US price.
I'll sell my 2014 MacBook Pro....nothing wrong with it at all and it has served me very well (still get 4.5 hours on the battery) but at the same time it will become redundant when I get the new machine and there will be no need to keep it.

Is anyone else tempted by the new 16-inch MacBook Pro that has just been announced? I don't need a new machine per se, but it sure sounds sweete. I'm still using my trusty old mid-2014 15-inch MacBook Pro which hasn't missed a beat and it's hard to justify purchasing a new machine.....but nonetheless, I do find myself tempted. Anyone else going to pick themselves up a new

What a load of nonsense. So many bars and restaurants in Thailand allow smoking and those whose responsibilities it is to enforce the laws look the other way.....and anyone who has spent a bit of time in Thailand knows why that is!

Thanks for the replies. It was fine again about 90 minutes after I posted.

I cannot get in to my Bangkok Bank account via Internet banking. I have tried both my home wi-fi connection and mobile connection, Bangkok Bangkok app and Bangkok Bank website on my laptop and nothing works. It worked fine and I could get in to the account fine yesterday. I am in New Zealand....so maybe that is the problem. Is anyone else experiencing problems (especially those outside Thailand like me)?

I imagine Shenanigans on Patpong soi 1 will show it.

While I have known my friends in my own country longer than I have known my friends in Thailand, I find the friendships back home to be more genuine. You have more in common with people back home and they know and like the real you. In Thailand, I felt many friendships were based around bar life and were more like drinking buddies. Friendships in Thailand for me did not have the same "strength" that friendships at home did.
Over time I came to realise that with many friends in Thailand it was Thailand that what we had in common, and not all that much else. When the conversation moved beyond the latest visa change or where had the best happy hour or where was showing the late kickoff Premier League matches etc there wasn't much left in common. It wasn't that we fell out, more that many of the friendships I had in Thailand just sort of petered out.

PR in Thailand doesn't sound like "real" PR i.e. the benefits are less than PR elsewhere....not that that should be a surprise, I guess...

In many countries you are limited to only bringing in 3 months worth of prescription drugs....so maybe in Thailand they classify supplements the same way?

That rate is very expensive, but if it is anything like Auckland and some other airports, there will be a pre-pay rate online where you can book a couple of hours for $7.

The pound will come back at some point.....the thing is, will it be in 3 months time, 3 years....or longer. 35 baht to the pound by year's end is not out of the question.

Congratulations BKK!!!! One of the first major red flag alerts of the coming smog season right now. And it's not even October yet... Red all over the map! Just as was forecast earlier in the week.
This is just appalling, especially as it's still only September. Can we expect bad pollution for the next several months?!

Assuming the people knew each other, it would be assumed whoever was left at the table would be expected to pay. If by some strange situation two strangers were seated and were eating at the same table then perhaps it may be different.

Could it be that some of the terrible smoke / pollution that has hit Malaysia may have drifted up to Bangkok and is a partial caused of the recent elevated pollution levels?

I have taken Symbicort for some years and it works really well for me. If it's causing you thrush problems, try drinking a glass of water shortly after inhaling. I imagine that will help. Try not to give up on Symbicort too easily because the few others I know who use it also swear by it, it really is very effective!

Did I get this right? They seem to say that any stay beyond the TE expiry date would be illegal. So if you enter on the last day of membership and immigration give you a one year stamp your stay beyond the existing membership is illegal.
Yep, that's how I read / interpret it....

Some of us have to experience it every day and it's often a lot more than a 3 train wait!
What is your average wait....how many trains and how long?

I believe that Thais and Farangs don't always share the same values. What is important to so many Thais is not what's important to me. I do like some Thai individuals but generally, but I find I much prefer to socialise with, do business with and have small interactions with those from developed countries. I never had any Thai male friends and the only Western friend of mine who had a genuine Thai make friend met his pal at university in Australia.

The UK want to get this FTA done with New Zealand as it is a small country with which the UK is super friendly and it will effectively be a practice run for the bigger FTAs that follow with much bigger countries / trading partners.

Many years ago I owned a car in my name. I paid 50% deposit and 50% on finance which was organised through the car dealership. I needed a work permit - which I had at the time - AND a Thai to guarantee the loan.
