No way could I ever live there.   Udon Thani was bad enough, and at worst, was just 100-150 AQI range.  Here/PKK, and only a couple months, if that, hit's or breaks 100 AQI.

100 AQI your still gonna be at a terrible pm2.5 value like 40µg/m³.

You really need keep your pm2.5 level under 10µg/m³ yearly average for minimal health risk.

Udon thani yearly average is 23.4 µg/m³, still very high but better than Chiang mai at 32.3 μg/m3.

Cardiovascular health is the major problem, especially for males, heart disease and erectile dysfunction much higher with pm2.5 pollution.

  2. Visa Application form, Passport copy, Hotel booking for entire stay, entry and exit flight tickets, last 3 months bank statement, copy of malaysia entry stamp, and 1900 baht.

Also note: You cannot enter the building without long pants and mask over your nose. They only accept a limited number of people per day so people start lining up early before they open.

Its too much hassle imo. But if you have only been in thailand once this year you can probably get it if you follow procedure.

will do it ✌ NEXT TIME

with a new passport to of course..

didn't know a border pass for thais still work. home she is near laos.. but now she wait in Pattaya.. 😕

Definitely go with land entry from Laos, thats pretty much guaranteed. The people saying chiang mai are not up to date with the current situation. Sure they were better 5-10 years ago but that has passed I know from first hand experience 2022 and 2023. Any airport is questionable nowadays, everyone is on the same page.

So, Had i until now.  As has been said many times on here its IO discretion whether to let you in or not.  I know they might have not done it lawfully but that wasn't the point, the point is it could happen to you.  So, I don't know what your point is?   Apart from some kind of gloating.

Ignore JoseThailand. He fled Russia, and Russians are specifically allowed unlimited land border runs so his information is not relevant to this thread. I have no idea why he always comes in these threads spouting off nonsense. Please Jose understand you dont have a western passport.

  5. In December 2022 we had reliable reports Chiang Khong was telling people with significant history in thailand they could not exit and come back through this border and they need to fly out of thailand. Also people trying to do the border run on the last day of their visa expiration were told they need to spend 1 night in Laos. Has anyone seen this stuff still happening?

Visa denied. They want bank statement, not cash. I was not prepared for this. What should i do? Try Savannaket? And will they accept 10000 cash?

Everywhere nowadays requires bank statements. Savannakhet wont give you a tourist visa unfortunately, as anyone who spent 3 out of last 6 months in thailand cant get one there. You cant get a bank statement?  Cash is not accepted, it doesnt matter how much it is.

Not a specific reason, he looked at my passport and saw many back to back since long time ago and recent one, he just said "i can't give you tourist visa bc i don't think you are" something like this at least.

Its been known since 2019, the Savannakhet consulate is strict. If you stayed 3 out of the last 6 months in Thailand they will not give you a tourist visa.

Most Grab drivers want a tip. I caught Grab in a dozen cities. Some didnt even offer then 10 or 15 baht change without asking.

Thais tip in restaurants and massage shops.

You must be new to Thailand. Tipping has been common for many years.

I have lived here many years and spoken to thais in thai. After that big tip they just laugh and ask why farang so stupid. They feel guilty taking money that is not theirs. The only common tipping is unknowing farangs.

20 odd years ago they had several visa agents in the Georgetown area of Penang that you could use to obtain a tourist visa. Are these visa agents still operational or are they not allowed to provide this service anymore?

They can still do it, but the thai embassy now requires every applicant to be interviewed in person. So its pretty much pointless to hire an agent if you have to go with them anyways. Also they only accept limited amount of applications per day, people camp out on the sidewalk early in the morning.
