  1. I took a bus from the Arcade to Bangkok once; I wouldn't do it again. Even if you have to pay 2,000 return to fly there, that's only just over 1,000 more than the VIP coach services and it takes an hour instead of 12. Personally, I think my time is worth a lot more than 90 baht an hour so I would not even think about the bus unless I were potless (and if I were potless, I can't see much point in travelling to Bangkok in the first place!)

  2. They are all as bad as each other in my experience. I haven't tried AIS but True, TOT, and 3BB are all OK until something goes wrong, then they can do nothing more than show you that you can still ping a server in Bangkok on speedtest.net and get good download and upload speeds from it. I have had to explain to them all that this would be fine if all I wanted to do all day was use speedtest.net all day long but I want real world performance. Also, they all seem to give you the cheapest router possible, usually with appalling wi-fi performance. TOT use a cheap router with their fibre to the home service but it has reasonable wireless performance. Both True and 3BB actually tell you that the router they give you is rubbish and they are right as fa as wireless performance is concerned.

  3. Use Aliexpress.

    No thanks,

First the vendors only want to sell wholesale, then you can't contact them because they have some stupid private mailsystem which doesn't work. Then they have their own money, ali-pay or so.....

I'm very happy with Paypal and also ebay works well if the couriers are good at least.

I bought something from Canada 5 weeks ago and it still hasn't arrived in Europe...The idiot sent it by boat for 2000 baht shippingcosts. People like that should be banned from ebay, because of him i'm stuck in Europe now.

The Chinese vendors on ebay send good products. Also China Post is working fast enough, 2-3 weeks is good enough for me with free shipping.

Shopping online with insurance from paypal is so much better then shopping in BKK. And for new technology which is affordable the Chinese have it all.

I guess my paypal wouldn't ship to Thailand out of safety-reasons. I have the same with my creditcard and bankcard who only give small amounts of money in Thailand or nothing at all.

I have complainted about that with my bank and they paid all my extra costs caused by that for last decade. Don't let them fool ya!

What safety reasons? As I mentioned earlier, they will let me ship to Rwanda but not Thailand - you're surely not agreeing with them that Rwanda is safer than Thailand? The only possible reason I could come up with by myself was maybe it was a safety precaution in as much as if I had hacked into the account and I was logging in from Thailand, I wouldn't be able to buy something and send it to myself. However, I asked them that question and they said no, that was not the issue.

What safety reasons? Don't ask me man, ask the EU banks. they must have bad experience with Thailand and Singapore becuase they blocked my creditcards for there without telling me. When i arrived on Changi airport i couldn't get any money from my cards.

Yes Thailand is on the list and Surinam isn't, i have never been to Rwanda so have no idea about the safety there. Thailand must be the hub for fake creditcard transactions i guess. Why are they on the black list?

    Singapore? That definitely surprises me.
  4. Regarding fluency, I said I AM fluent in the language and can read and write although I lack a lot of the academic terms. I'm not too worried about racism as I'm not dark-skinned, I'm generally regarded as "farang looking."

The politics of Thailand are not better for sure, but in the US everyone is so politically correct that they won't even acknowledge certain things that Thais consider standard, i.e. Thais are more socially conservative as a whole and have better family values, even if there are a few bad apples. People in the US are so obsessed with equality and correctness that they won't admit that a 18-20 year old woman is more attractive than a 40 year old one. (just an example).

About money it's actually not that huge of an issue, I have a not so huge inheritance ( won't specify how much ) but it's definitely enough to live on in Southeast Asia if I'm not spending lavishly left and right.

If money is not a big issue, you have somewhere to live, Thai citizenship and you know how to fit in here, why are you even asking the question? Sounds to me like you just want to tell everybody you think that Thai culture and politics are not as bad as they are in the USA, i.e. you're trolling. Just move here and get on with your life doing whatever you want to do. I can't see how a Western education will hold you back: it will be a positive not a negative - why do so many wealthy Thai parents send their children to be educated abroad if this is not the case?

Politics in the USA may seem risible but if you think it's better here, perhaps you haven't read a newspaper in the last 6 or so years. The very fact that I'm not allowed to say what I want to say openly on this topic speaks volumes about it.

  5. Use Aliexpress.

  6. What the Brexit supporters have gained is a promise from me that I will never live in the UK again. Having read about the surge in racially motivated hate crimes since the referendum, there's no way I would take my daughter to live in a country full of nasty, bigotted, ignorant louts like the UK (England in particular, excluding London perhaps).

On these forums, we often see complaints of how we are treated by Thai people - double pricing, being ignored in shops, and the tortous immigration procedures have all been commented on recently. I dont like double pricing or immigration's seemingly unsatiable appetite for paperwork but until Thai people start verbally abusing me in the street, burning my property, and sending me death threats, I'll consider them (as a whole) more enlightened than my countrymen back home.

  7. It's not very helpful to post this cut video without the background.

A motorbike rider trying to flee a checkpoint got his kick, so what?

    Was he shot? No!

He was suspected of being in possession of drugs. Police were asked by radio to stop him and when he tried to escape, the officer on the video stopped him 'in his own way' (and he was in possession of drugs).

  8. I'm reticent to always blame the Thai postal system when international deliveries don't turn up (of course if they were tracked and seen to arrive in this country that's a different matter). The Royal Mail in the UK advises people never to put cash inside birthday cards so it seems they are well aware of the fact that a percentage of their employees are thieves, and are unable to do anything about it.

  9. Why not get your wife to talk to the guy and ask him .. seems to me it would be courteous to do so first.

If you said you would take care of the cut branches... and not just throw them back on his land... that would be a good move too. .

Believe me we have talked to him, he is an idiot! We even let him use bamboo poles to raise the trees rather than cut them (poles on our land propping up his trees) but year after year since then he does nothing and just lets the trees droop. They are scratching all the cars and trucks that come into our place.

Now he doesn't even bother to prop the trees up.

He even caused a run in with the Land Office guys that came out to mark our land with the chanotes.

In the end the land office told him to basically FO!

They told him ( as he was even disputing land borders from other people's bordering land - nothing to do with him at all)

They told him in the end that "Look, we are not interested in what you believe, we are only here to tell them (ME) what they own!

    The guy is an idiot.

OK, he doesn't sound like somebody you can negotiate with!

I suppose the non-confrontational solution would be to widen your access road a few feet on the other side but that would probably involve considerable expense and disruption (?) My ego would probably stop me choosing that solution in any case.

  10. I find eBay baffling at times. I have always searched for items on the eBay.com site because I assumed the results would include all international sellers but yesterday I tried the eBay.co.uk site and found results for what I wanted that had not appeared on the .com site. All the vendors on eBay.co.uk were quoting postage costs to Thailand so no idea why they were excluded from the .com results.

Re. PayPal and Thai addresses: I recently decided to try to resolve the issue and called PayPal customer service. The excuse they first gave me when I called and asked why I could not add a Thai delivery address when checking out was that it was related to 'security issues'. I asked them whether they were really telling me that countries such as Rwanda, Suriname, and Lesotho presented less of a security risk than Thailand and was put on hold for several minutes. When the guy came back he said that he couldn't really explain why I was not able to add Thailand as a shipping destination but he would send me an email explaining why (yes, I did wonder about that!). As you can probably guess, after 2 weeks I am still waiting for that email.

  11. I agree wIth previous posters - why not mention the issue to the landowner first and tell him you'd like to resolve it by pruning the overhanging branches? UK laws are irrelevant and he may well consider you cutting his trees and throwing the branches on his land as a very provocative and insulting action. I'd be pretty angry if somebody did that to me.

  12. Be carrefully of this Land citizens: poland. Hungaria. Romania. Bulgaria. Estonia. Check and Slowakey. Malta. Letoania. Ukrania. Portogal. Spain they are very poor land wich citizens can do anything to live abroad

You forgot that little island off of France, they are getting poorer by the day.
No need to worry about us, we sent all our criminals to Australia a long time ago and they've been over there breeding idiots ever since.

  13. A Thai friend that got a dairy farm here in CM told me that Thailand is missing 30% of its milk needs, therefor their will blend in whatever is missing in the form of powdered milk.

Milk is paid too the farmer in Kg(everywhere) because the more fat there is the heavier the milk is, more money is paid.

Actually, fat is lighter. It floats on water.
People who spread ridiculous rumours don't usually let facts get in their way.
  14. I'm not sure it's the sellers. When I try to buy something online and pay with PayPal, I can add a delivery address. The drop-down list box has virtually every country in the world, including Surinam and many other less developed nations. The only country that seems to be missing is the one I'm actually in. I called and asked them why and they tried to help but eventually admitted they couldn't explain it (?!).

  15. Yes, at one time these brooms probably were identical, but she decided one was for indoor use and the other was for outdoors and yes, it's because she doesn't want the outdoor stuff all over the indoors. These brooms are no longer identical because of their use history. I can guarantee you the "outdoors" broom is dirtier than the indoor broom.

How can she tell the difference? She probably stores them in different places when not in use. Haven't you ever noticed?

And don't use this as an excuse to never help again by saying "last time I ever try to help". That's a standard male cop-out for what is called "selective incompetence". Instead become more observant about the procedures used to run the household and ask questions before you dive in. Respect her way of doing things and learn from her instead of belittling her when she gets angry because you screw up and create more work for her.

Selective incompetence; I like that. I cannot remember which liquids go where in our washing machine, even though there are only two liquids (detergent and conditioner) and two compartments for those liquids. My partner has told me a dozen times but it never sinks in. Now I have a name for my condition, if not an excuse!
