  1. Clausthaler non-alcohol beer is on sale in Thailand, and it does taste like the real stuff. They are also getting Erdinger Weissen Beer non-alkie type, but it's not on general sale yet.

Light beer here means fat bastids can drink it without putting on the pounds, not that it's light in alkihol.

Thanks Lampard. Clausthaler would be perfect do you know wh stocks it.

I get mine from Friendship , Pattaya, but that's probably no help to you. Villa or Best or Tops might stock it though.

Sorry Guardian didn't intend to leave you out but the fact that you got it in BK was of little use. It was only after the fact that Lampard cited Pattaya rather than CM.

  2. If you have a passion for elephants you should take a day trip to the Elephant Nature Park which is run by a world renowned Thai elephant conservationist.

The Park is home to 30 rescued elephants and you get a real up close and personal experience including feeding and bathing them in the river. No riding I'm afraid but just watching the natural behaviour of these elephants including 4 babies will take your breath away.

It is not a cheap day out but it is the experience of a lifetime for anyone who is interested in getting close to elephants.

  3. Hi,

I am after a sugar free good quality orange or blackcurrant cordial (concentrate). The stuff you add water to to make a drink!

In England, I used to drink "robinsons" which was also sugar free.

Any ideas? Im not into the thick syrup ones.

    Thanks

    Phil

    Hi Phil,

I too am a huge Robinsons fan. Topps supermarket (very) occassionally stock Robinsons Orange and Pineapple as well as a robinsons Barley. They had regular stock in for a while, but have not seen any for a couple of months. Still, everytime you are nearby, it is worth popping in to have a look.

If you find any PLEEASE let me know where you get it from :o

  5. Be careful not to confuse your beers. I think Chang Lite is about 5%. I never drink the stuff myself. Somebody will put me right here.

    Just checked in the supermarket

    San Miguel Lite 5%

    Chang Light 4.2%

    So they're out.

I seem to recall there's somebody on this forum called "Lite Beer". Maybe they know!

Thanks Briggsy very decent of you. Yes neither of those really work. about 1.5% would be top whack I guess.

Which supermarket? Reckon Rimping or Tops would offerthe best chance.

  6. I was in Egypt during Ramadan one year - many times you had the choice of non-alcohol becks - or nothing. I went with nothing.

Funnily enough low-alcohol Becks was exactly what he requested. I had to tell him no chance in CM. You can't even get proper Becks.

Thanks for all your responses hopefully someone will turn somthing up but I'm off to the pub now and not a no or low alcohol drink in sight.

    Cheers

  7. Most bars and shops sell "pretend alcahol".

    It's called Heineken.

    :D

    :D:D:D

    What would the point be?

In principle DSK I would agree with you but presumably you and I are in the same lucky boat where we have never had to refrain from alcohol consumption. I can't imagine how bad an eleven month period in Saudi would be :D

Also I know my Dad really misses the social side of drinking and just the feeling that you have a 'drink' in your hand helps rather than a coke or glass of fizzy water :o

  8. Thanks all.

Low alcohol is fine UG if you know where I can get some.

In the UK he drinks some stuff which goes by the vile name of de-alcoholised wine :o which I doubt I will find here. Low alcohol beer or wine would be good.

    I have to say JBG

    alcohol free malt beverage
sounds fairly revolting and I think he may opt for his usual fall back of very weak shandy but I may try him on that if no alternative can be found.
  9. Hi

My father will be visiting next month and despite a previous fondness for alcohol has been forced to stop drinking for medical reasons. He does though allow himself low alcohol wine or beer. I have never seen any low alcohol drinks in CM but does anyone know of a place where I can find these products.

    Yours soberly :o

  10. langer out, day 2, england will win :o

A good day but I think there's a fairway to go until we break out the party buckets.

I am just hoping for a series as competitive as the last one and the last 2 days have at least given me hope after the appalling showing lby England last week. I also want to see Monty play.

  11. Am listening on the net at the moment through Cricket Australia. Aus$19 for the series and have signed up PPV on UBC. 1500baht for the series is OK.

Not the most exciting play at the moment though. At least England are making a fist of it.

You might have me eating my words MB although it is still early days :o

Cheers JBG couple of wickets before close will do very nicely thank you. Not much in the pitch though.

Nice moment seeing McGarth wave at the crowd after going for 100 without a wicket. :D Now thre's a rarity.

Unfortunately on such a short schedule to fit in a day trip would mean missing out on the many other delights of Chiang Mai.

Any chance of sneaking an extra day in CM and less time in Krabi?

  14. Just a word of advice: don't leave any valuables in your car while it is there. Earlier this year I parked at the airport while making a day trip to Bangkok. I left the car in the morning, and when I returned that night something had been stolen. It was on the outside of the car, not inside, so not picked locks or smashed windows. I was parked only 50 meters from the security checkpoint. I did report it before I left, but of course to no avail. I will park there again if needed, but with less confidence.

    Thanks Puwa - good advice

  15. Well played Aus - pretty d*mned comprehensive, can't argue with that. At least we took you to the fifth day (just)

From the earlier posts I assume WETV is South African satellite? Can anyone give me any more information and how I can go about getting it, the costs etc.

    Cheers

  16. Was watching in the UN Irish pub this afternoon. 'tis a difficult time to be English we're being stuffed :D

And you got done like a hot dinner at Twickenham yesterday too. :D

As for the ashes though, England haven't got a "bolters"

If games are not shortened because of rain it will be Oz 5 - England 0

    :o

:D I was always told that you don't hit people when they are down

Yeah Twickenham was a bl**dy disaster English rugby has been a disaster since the WC. :D

As for the criket I seem to remember MCGrath making 5-0 claims after the first test last time and we knoiw what happend then. :D

(Says Englishman more in hope than expectation)
