Much like Ford....????
Thoughts on Navara? Lets be honest, not many expats are going to be working them very hard. Other than resale value are they a solid truck? Know if have servicing issues that Ford seem to have sometimes that come up on this forum?
-
Not to hijack the thread but I am curious to hear people's opinion on the Navara. From reviews seems to be quiet comfortable to drive (more car like) due to its very different suspension set up, but just no good under a heavy load (apparently have fixed that a bit).
If only taking 350 odd kgs (guessing as I don't know weight of all your dogs), then shouldn't be heavy enough to bring up the problems the Navara was criticised for. In theory a comfortable ride on crappy roads? Probably a lower price as well. -
Can make it yourself if don't want to give capsules. Just cook the turmeric powder in some water and mix in grounded black pepper and coconut oil - ends up turning into a paste which you just put in the fridge. The pepper helps the dog fully take in all the properties. Just type in Golden Paste turmeric and it will have the recipe and dosage for dogs.
Used to give it to my dog daily when he was in pain. Has been off all kinds of pain killers (whether conventional or natural) for 3 months now. -
150 baht a day to board the dog there? Or to clean the wound? If the dog has to board there and the only reason is to clean the wound then the cost is the boarding and the wound combined. That is a waste of money and more stressful for the dog.
I am assuming the vet manually manipulated everything back into position - that is, no surgery for that part of the problem. Obviously the vein is a different matter. That sort of sudden dislocation usually results from motor vehicle accidents. -

What if the dog then gives you a quick lick on a small open would you may not have noticed?

PS: just one thing has crossed my mind. Can you catch rabies from eating dog stew? Assuming the dog was infected in the first place.
Thai cows every now and then get infected and whole villages need to go to get rabies post-exposure vaccine so I guess the medical board considers it possible in theory.
-
Don't pet a dog regardless of the temperature. How many people have died of rabies here as they thought it was nothing to worry about? The school teacher feeding soi dogs and the young girl innocently scratched by a puppy playing are recent cases I remember.
Steer clear from dogs until you can confirm they have been vaccinated. Especially if live in a known rabies area. The first question I ask before even saying hello to people I visit is has your dog been vaccinated (in the last year due to dodgy vaccines from previous years). -

Party talks regarding coalition deals have been going on. Suddenly the Assistant's PM right hand man is cut from his post.
Ass PM, naturally, didn't want BJ to go. The rumours re the watch scandal are interesting considering the man (BJ) supposedly meant to be investigating the Ass PM is his right hand man. Why would he?
The rumours in Thai news and social media are also starting to contradict each other. One minute it was BJ looking into the EC way of handling the elections...now it is that he didn't look closely enough into it and it will all come out that he was closely supporting the junta rather than being impartial. That probably got traction due to the relationship between BJ and the Ass PM.
Re corruption rumours, usually police or any government officials get moved to inactive posts, not told to hand in their uniforms. Taking moral high grounds on corruption isn't really the current governments thing is it? You would also not use your best mate as the scapegoat. Furthermore, wouldn't the junta be pumping out this reason everywhere to be showing they are tackling corruption?
Immigration, I cant see any reasonable reason why Immigration issues would affect the junta so much to use 44 to get rid of him. What BJ did affects a handful of wrongdoers that are insignificant to tourist numbers or any big tea money for the people that actually matter (your local immigration officer not liking the guy falls into the does not matter category - as a few members have stated on here as being the reason).
Being in the spotlight? The junta have had a long time and a lot of opportunities to get rid of him and haven't. So why now?
Stepping on someone's toes? Whose toes? Again, being very close with the Ass PM it needs to be either very big toes or toes that have become very relevant in the past month or so...which is where my thinking comes into it. Timing is everything I think with this case.
Democrats and Bhumjaithai want to be in government, even if that means forming coalition with the junta. However, the two parties are not fans of BJ. There is a rumour going around of a specific case that would fit into why they are not fans of BJ as he didn't step back from an investigation he undertook when he heard mentioned names that have suddenly become very relevant in coalition talks.
For the junta to form a coalition government they need the Democrats and Bhumjaithai on their side rather than Pheu Thais side. The only way for that to be achievable was to accept their demands of getting rid of BJ. It also probably explains the use of 44 and 'under investigation'. The ET are not necessarily powerful in terms of the overall country point of view, however the leaders of that faction still find ways to benefit themselves and their friends. It would have needed to be 44 being used to make it a very clear cut finish to the matter in order to fulfill the coalition deal.

Some more speculation ????
Regardless of what Abhisit said about the junta just before the election, when he resigned he said he wished his party to join a coalition (saw the writing on the wall his party would never win with the introduction of Future Forward). Now that coalition isn't about to be with Pheu Thai or Future Forward is it? What happens when parties are trying to form coalitions, demands need to be met.
In terms of speculation the logic is there, but more importantly the timing is there. The parties are having their coalition talks at the moment aren't they? The speculation on TV about the past catching up with BJ is relevant (for those who know the specific case that would affect both Democrats and Bhumjaithai not wanting him), however that incident naturally only became relevant due to the events of the last month. Otherwise this whole transfer wouldn't have happened - seeing as he is Prawits best mate.
-
The Thai social media idea of him looking too close into the election doesn't really seem logical considering he is best mates with the Ass PM.
Look at the timing of everything. For coalition governments to be formed sometimes certain demands have to be met.-

Clicking a 'like' is considered illegal? LOL
It is widely reported how close they are. It has been mentioned in every article so far re BJ and his transfer - don't need some special source to know that.
The 'like' was just the Thai social media rumor/reasoning behind the papers being signed. It isn't the actual reason.
I am sure people can read between the lines of what is happening right now and why he had to go even though he is the Assistant PMs best mate. That will give the general reason, just will not divulge the back story of how that reason came about to begin with.

Probably due to political reason, he didn't support the military party.
There is an intense power struggle between the military party and the Taksin parties right now.
He is the right hand man of Prawit.
Edit: that was a Thai social media rumor going around. That he liked a certain page supporting an investigation into the election. They just drew a conclusion as his social media pages were closed down.
It is political, but much more complex than that. Past caught up with him. -

This guy is talking nonsense. Things will change. Maybe not right away, and maybe not totally. But, they will improve. They got rid of the biggest joke, because he was a saboteur, and he brought grievous harm to the nation, with his hateful policies towards Westerners and his inane policy. Good riddens.
Lol...BJ is the Assistant Prime Minister's right hand man (the Ass PM is a man you criticise constantly). A very special reason they got rid of Big Joke, and it naturally meant being put in a very difficult position that the Ass PM was forced to get rid of one of his best mates. Words like 'saboteur', 'harm to the nation' - where is that logic coming from when we look at who is moving these people? Have the army gone from being the most evil people in the world in your eyes to some form of moral police unit? Understanding, logic and most importantly timing gives weight to the most plausible reason that is going around the expat community at the moment from different sources (very few of any credibility).
We must wait until May 9, but I wouldn't be betting money on things changing all that much. -

Trust me they DO NOT want anyone to know but I don’t think it’s going to be a secret much longer eventually the whole story will probably come out probably in news outlets outside of Thailand if it has not already, and maybe in Thailand as well if he’s formally charged. They’re keeping it pretty hush hush right now but last night I had the opportunity to learn a little bit about the story from a reliable US government source not much but enough to know that it’s pretty bad. There are certain things they can’t discuss but I heard enough and if what little I heard is even half true it’s not good at all. I can’t write the details of what I was told because of forum rules and because of defamation laws here. You have to be careful what you say on here especially about government officials. I spoke to a few other people on the forum in private via email and I’m not the only one who has heard the same thing. But even what I was told isn’t 100% confirmed as far as I know anyway.
Reading between the lines of your language alone - I would suggest your sources are not very close at all to the mark. I think you need to check and double check the people you speak with (seems like the standard Thai pub ''I am/was SAS/government'' story).

Interesting thoughts, Scorecard. But I always understood (from what I have read) that the new top general and Prayut were good friends and have been so for years.
However, in the world of Thai personal relationships (especially power relationships), things can change swiftly and dramatically (look at the unexpected sudden fall from grace of Biggest Joke) ...
I think people sometimes get the wrong impression of the the two factions. They are not necessarily at each other's throats like they seem to be in theory. Members of each faction have served with each other for years at various posts and have formed close friendships. They go out for dinner together, they attend different anniversary functions and drink together, phone each other socially etc etc.
You are correct. The General proved his loyalty, and the PM smartly has returned that loyalty. However, being Thailand it would not take much for things to kick off.
Joke should have kept blinkers on.-

Why is the junta popularity such a surprise to people? I don't know how many times I have said on here Thailand is heading to an 'aging population' status. That is exactly where the junta policies hit, the elderly or those heading in that direction.
The amount of TV members saying every person in Thailand hates the junta was silly and lacked analytical thinking. Maybe if you didn't just focus on women that were the age of your granddaughter you would have realised the older folks were going junta.
The other point is that polls don't mean all that much. Especially when you have a situation like this in Thailand. You may be criticised for speaking out that you support the junta by the younger folk so you just keep that quiet until you get to the privacy of the ballot box...a bit like many did with Trump.-

I love my dogs and do not want to abuse or hurt them, but 3 of them are feral dogs from the countryside just abandoned in a ditch where the bitch whelped under a bush. We used to go out and feed the many dogs living down the road and this litter was pointed out to us.
We tried hard to persuade the locals to adopt a puppy- there were 7 originally, one died - we buried it, three vanished, hopefully to locals and nor predators, and I brought Laika home after feeding them daily for a week and when it was obvious that no one else was going to bother. Soon we found only one left alone we thought, so we brought him home. Sister-in-law checking the following day saw another clearly sick and dying, too weak to stand, so I went and brought her home, fed her with a baby syringe as she was dehydrated, water, then milk and water, then"smoothie" boiled egg and milk and she recovered. She has scars on her back so presumably something tried to eat her.
So we have adopted them all, they are nervous dogs even of us in the home they flinch if you go to pet them but will come for a cuddle and pet if one sits down. They jump all over us if we come back from shopping. I have no idea how to train Laika out of aggression, we talked about shock collars as has been suggested, not expensive on e-bay, but the triggers are not easy to see that set Laija off. They all rush out if one sees a kid on a bike or a couple of folk sweeping the road, one of them barks, then there's a mad rush out the door and 4 dogs barking and howling until the passer-bye has gone. Same if they see a cat belonging to a neighbour - they go frantic. It is those moments of hysteria when Laika has attacked Poppy before, or one of her own siblings and she is quite vicious about it. We hear the snarls and they are quickly followed by the cries of the wounded dog but by then it is too late. It doesn't happen every time but we have had an attack 3 times in the last 10 days, twice on Poppy and once on a sibling.
We just cannot foresee when it will all kick off. All this talk of Alphas and dominance and submission and so on is ok in theory, but when you've got 4 mad buggers tearing about not so easy to put into practice. So a muzzle will save dogs getting bitten but then Laika won't be able to wander into the feeding area for some biscuit or a drink as they all are free to do now. An electric collar would be ok so long as (a) we were about with the remote when needed and (b) she associates the shock with her anti-social actions.
I think the point is they need to be separated until they are actually trained. Separate crates if indoor dogs, separate training sessions focusing on positive reinforcement on the behaviours you wish the dogs to display, separate play sessions where the dogs can start to build some respect for you and separate walks down the street to get some stimulation. Do these things at set times to create a routine for the dog. If the dog has a routine, then the dog will feel safe as he knows what is happening.
Separating the dogs not only will help with training, it will also give you control over the environment. So when a kid or cat does run by the dogs will not be able to redirect that excitement and energy into fighting as they will be separated.
After doing this for a while then slowly try and introduce the dogs again. Positively reinforcing behaviour you wish to see. So start to walk the dogs together slowly. Still train separately, but train in the view of the other dog. Over time the dogs will hopefully lose that strong bond they have with their littermate as you have formed a stronger bond as you are working individually with them and spending more time with them than the dogs are spending together.
This will all take many months of hard work. The alpha approach will take a much shorter time, however, if the dogs are already flinching then it is an incredibly irresponsible approach to take. Not only high risk but simply cruel with the latest information/research the dog community has.
Edit: It is not necessary to have a feeding area. Just give the dogs a set meal if small dogs, or even better two set meals a day. Put it down for 10 minutes, if they don't eat it take it away. Dogs will not die if have no constant food source. Having on tap feeding areas is often not a good idea with even only one dog, but especially in a house with multiple dogs. Obviously always have water available. Again, TAKE CONTROL OF THE ENVIRONMENT that is driving undesirable behaviour. -
More simplistically, we just have to look at abusing dogs (whether verbally or physically) when they bark and smacking children when they are naughty. Similar concept as dogs have the social maturity of a young child. The dog learns that barking means getting attention. Doesn't matter if it is attention in the form of abuse, it is still attention.
The same with little kids. You smack a kid and they are happy (even if cry from the pain), as they have received the attention (love in child and dogs eyes). They were only being naughty in the first place, or dog barking in the first place, to get attention from you.
If you remove that reinforcer of the undesired behaviour (abusing the barking or being naughty), and fix up the emotional state (actually giving calm and positive attention when the dog or child is showing desired behaviours), and fix the environment (removing stimulus that creates issues) then suddenly things start to change. Remember for every negative you say to a child you must say six positives for that child to grow up well behaved. Similar with dogs as again, their social maturity is on a par with young children. -
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN ALPHA DOG!!!!! Whether that is dogs around other dogs, or humans thinking they are alphas.
Training methods that employ dominance are ineffective. Yes, the dog may do what you desire, but they are doing it out of FEAR! As soon as the dog become fearful it poses a huge risk for biting in the future. I am sure people will go on about how their dog isn't fearful, but if you have had to kick your dog like Milan does for example, then the dog is fearful. The respectful relationship has been broken. We can simply see this with the way Thais treat their dogs on the most part. Yeah, the dog stays loyal, but flinches every time you raise a hand.
It is why every single governing dog behaviour body, respectable trainer and animal cruelty groups are disgusted with the way people like Cesar Milan do things. They believe it has set dog training back decades. Yes, his methods may 'seem' to work for a small amount of people who are able to keep their cool, but they are with extreme risk as they create an antagonist relationship between dog and person. Hence, the cruelty part. It is a lazy short term fix that allows for potential aggression later on.
Dog training should be based on positive, respectful and consistent environments. As Arjen said, the alpha dog situation has been found to be a myth. The reason people believe it exists is their home environment is usually a constant. You put the exact same dogs you have in your home out in the street with continual changes in environment and that dog you thought was alpha is suddenly not depending on the stimulus. Different dogs change leadership or show dominance extremely often as the environment changing. Even in the home many dogs will change leadership. Dogs showing dominance (not alpha) is a response to stress, fear, threats or worry. So for my home the Caucasian shows dominance if cars/motorcycles etc are around as they are the threat to her and the Fila shows dominance over the Caucasian if people are around as he has been specifically bred to be people aggressive so people are the concern for him. A dog behaving dominantly is not an alpha thing, it is a response to the stimulus.
In terms of a house situation, we teach respect and we are supposed to do that by creating positive conditioning with what we deem respectful behaviour to be. Like we have the thread re training dogs not to kill chickens - reward the dog when it shows no interest in the chook. "Reinforcing desired behaviors, removing the reinforcer for inappropriate behaviors, and addressing the emotional state and environmental conditions driving the undesirable behavior." -
23 minutes ago, Arjen said:
To make dogs less aggressive spaying only works when you do this before they are adult. So before the homons has started to work. Spaying male dogs will remove the sex-drive (mostly for 80%, not complete!) and on this way reduce some aggression. In your situation spaying is unlikely to work.
Training will help. But you must be around.
I am not sure if it is correct about litter mates what WW89 states.
It probably depends on the other dogs in your pack also.
We have quite a lot of dogs, most are not alone but have brothers and sisters also here. And it looks to me the brothers and sisters from all different litters are a kind of "Sub-pack" in the "main-pack"
Arjen.
Not true Arjen. May reduce roaming, which will help stop getting hit by cars etc, but aggression is learnt (environment) or inherited (genetics).
"Neither gonadectomy nor age at gonadectomy showed an association with aggression toward familiar people or dogs. However, there was a low but significant increase in the odds of moderate or severe aggression toward strangers for all gonadectomized dogs compared with intact dogs, but this effect was driven entirely by data for dogs gonadectomized at 7–12 months of age, which were 26% more likely to demonstrate aggression toward strangers. This large, comprehensive study of the relationships between gonadectomy and aggressive behavior in dogs demonstrates that when the many factors affecting aggressive behavior are considered, there is no evidence that gonadectomy at any age alters aggressive behavior toward familiar people or dogs, and there is only a minimal increase in aggression toward strangers. Given the increasing evidence of significant negative health effects of gonadectomy, there is an urgent need to systematically examine other means of preventing unwanted procreation, such as vasectomy and hysterectomy".
Edit: The above results looked at 13,000+ dogs.-

there are trigger points, as long as one figures out and observes the trigger points fights are easily avoidable.
in my case 1 is the instigator of all fights, he is just claiming dominance, he now does not get fed first, does not go into car first and he has accepted it, for now anyway .
dogs are not hard as long as you can understand them ????
ohh and I have 9 of them in total, including father and mother who occasionally help to discipline the pups
Recommendations are usually set on the majority, not a minority. The fact is, it is advised not to take on litter mates as there are generally more cons than pros. Littermate Syndrome doesn't occur in all littermates, however it does occur often enough for experts to advise against taking littermates on. It is why most shelters never place brothers or sisters together when they come in. The bond becomes so important (whether that is closeness or fighting), that the puppies never develop the necessary social skills. Your dogs clearly do not have Littermate Syndrome (better genetics), that is fantastic. However, it doesn't really help the OP when his dogs clearly do have it.
Similar as to why it is recommended to have different gender dogs. Of course with a good environment and good genetics these things may be able to work themselves out. However, for the majority of people and the majority of environments they do not, hence the recommendations. We just end up with dogs needing to be re-homed...as in this case.
So for the OP is recommended to keep the puppies from developing this emotional dependence (a little late for him). All he can do is this: Three dogs may mean three crates in this case if the OP uses that style. However, what is important is that three dogs means three individual training sessions where sole focus can be put on one dog at a time. The dog needs to develop its confidence and independence away from its littermate who is giving it signals to play second fiddle. Three dogs also means three play sessions. Dogs need to learn to weaken the social bond they have with each other (whether that is reliance/anxiety or control/fighting).-

Spaying makes few dogs less aggressive, and it makes just as many dogs even more aggressive. It is just a line the councils and many vet clinics put out to promote desexing your pets. Environment and genetics dictate the majority of aggression issues, not removing ovaries.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5834763/
It is well known not to ever take litter mates. They either become too attached to each other or very aggressive towards each other.

Work Permit (WP) issue is blown out of proportion on this forum - for many provinces anyway. The Labour Office couldn't give two stuffs about it where we are (to the point where they even admit they don't focus on it). Police definitely couldn't care less as they don't have to. Immigration Police, who I think are the ones required to enforce WP laws, care enough to ask you if you work but never bother checking up if you have a permit even if you say yes. So little care is given that the Mrs and I are actually going to ask Immigration when we go next if we actually should bother even getting it if they never check up on it as everyone else around us doesn't have one so why are we spending the money doing the right thing (we are on pretty good terms with them).
To the OP, you don't need a work permit to do the kind of work the policeman asked. They will pay you 600 an hour without a work permit. Other than the cash, just do it to network. Try and work for as many government departments as you can as it makes life so much easier. If work for the police you are immediately bumped up lines if need to deal with them, never have to pay any fines or even camera fines if in your province if you create a positive relationship with them. Work for other departments like Public Health and you will be given queue number (1-10) from friends at the hospital the night before whenever you need to see a GP, specialist or dentist, rather than waking up at 6am and getting number 200. In and out as fast as a private hospital. Officials mostly all have a fair understanding of each other so really any government process you will be able to get help with as someone always knows someone else. Why the help? As you teaching them helps their project profile look better which increases their chances of moving up two pay levels in that year so they will bend over backwards to get you.-

Better choice? Ford wildtrack 2.2 vs Mitsu triton 2017-2018
in Thailand Motor Discussion
Posted
I thought Ford didn't necessary have anymore issues than other pick ups. The problem is when they do have issues many places in Thai are incapable of fixing them. The Mrs and I both loved the Wildtrak when we went to test drive it, however, we later discovered (asking around and experience) Ford in our province were useless.
Mrs work car is an older Ford that was going along well. It had a problem and even with the simpler technology the older cars have Ford servicing was enough for the boss to not go Ford again. Ended up being fixed by an outside shop as Ford couldn't figure it out. They have replaced their other pick up with a 4 door low spec Mitsu, On the other hand our best Thai friend has just got herself a Wildtrak and Everest in the space of a few months - but lives in a much bigger city with a better service centre.
