  1. Are these the October Moderna doses that took me 2 days to get online, and that I paid for in advance that were 'reallocated' to the Red Cross, while I now patiently wait for a whiff of any vaccine, stuck alone at home?
  2. No, of course not. A lockdown would be useless. However, isolating and protecting the sick so they don't get bit and pass it on is very important to prevent further spread. My wife had Dengue, and was very ill for weeks last October during Covid. Her platelet counts were very low, almost needing hospitalization. I cared for her at home, and was at risk of contracting it myself if just a single mosquito bit her, and then bit me. I had to be extremely careful with window screens, blankets, mosquito nets, mosquito bug sprays, standing water, and even using deet repellents on ourselves even inside the house. Fortunately she recovered, and I did not get Dengue.
  3. Nice new palm trees, but what about the stench of the raw sewage flooding into Pattaya Beach during rains?
  4. Sorry, but Dengue fever is transmitted from human to human via the mosquito as the vector. Skeptic7 did not infer it was transmitted directly from human to human. Isolating those with dengue and ensuring that mosquitos do not bite them and have the opportunity to go on to bite and infect others would in fact prevent the virus from spreading. There are many articles on the subject available by a simple Google search: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4060056/ https://www.medscape.com/answers/215840-43440/how-is-dengue-transmitted https://www.cdc.gov/dengue/transmission/index.html
  5. I just called the expatvac site number of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They are aware of the abnormally high number of rejections, and said to call back in a few days once they sort it out.
  6. If a bar girl asked for a loan, chances are much better she would repay it than these lying fools.
  7. The Thai fascination with these deadly U-turns instead of turning at intersections is crazy. So many times, I have had to apply full brake to avoid someone pulling out in front of me starting a U-turn. Worse, are the large trailer trucks pulling out on a U-turn that think that their size gives them the right of way. In this case, it seems the truck must have tried a wide turn crossing in front of the Isuzu's path rather than starting the turn from the inside lane. Drive in a way that they are always trying to kill you here in every way possible, as your life here in reality is cheap and worthless. The carnage continues...
  8. As walking street gets demolished, and transformed into something else, Soi Buakhao and other areas will grow. It’s just a temporary setback. The girls and new girls will be back once restrictions are over, but the price gouging at the larger clubs will be less due to competition and lower rents paid as was on walking street. The big reset.
  9. They could start by opening the foot massage places first, and if all goes well, they could slowly work their way up.
  10. Getting good vaccines into arms as quickly as possible is the best way out of this mess. Hopefully there will be many more doses of Pfizer and Moderna to come, as other nations discover how far we are behind, and take pity on us.
  11. They should do well with their 15% stake in Sinovac. I just wish that it wasn't bought in such vast quantities for Thailand.
  12. Clearly, fossil fuels are increasing as an energy source for driving the electric grid into the future, despite the transition hype. Watch what they do, as opposed to what they say.
  13. Thank you images are circulating, made by Thais to Biden, for doing what could not be done by their own people in charge:
  14. As per the news link: 'Foreign residents vaccination program is set for Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays only as per details below: Program 1 every Tuesday 1st dose: AstraZeneca 2nd dose: AstraZeneca Program 2 every Wednesday 1st dose: SINOVAC 2nd dose: SINOVAC Program 3 every Thursday 1st dose: SINOVAC 2nd dose: AstraZeneca'
  15. A good neighbour would not cut off the flow of the Mekong river.
  16. Even Kama Sutra could not perform doing so many positions at once.
  17. The foundation is a convenient place, with lots of parking. The wife and I have gone there a few times to make donations for those that cannot afford coffins and final services. They have an easy payment window on the main floor, where you can buy someone a nice box, then pray for them at the Chinese temple upstairs. I can imagine there must be quite a demand lately.
  18. Didn't someone warn him to stay well away from the unsafe shoddy workmanship in Thailand? Poor guy.
  19. It is a positive thing to hear that medics and health care professionals will not be held liable for exposing and publicizing their inability to perform their duties, due to a lack of quality vaccines and poor planning by those entrusted to do so.
  20. From my experience, all the first responders that I have had incidents with on a few occasions were all volunteers. Other than fire departments, and hospital's ambulances, many use their own vehicles, fuel, scuba gear, first aid supplies, body recovery tools, climbing gear, radios, etc. There was also never a cost for an ambulance when it was called. They teach each other knowledge and skills, and teach children how to swim and do other safety things like CPR courses, first aid, etc. Fortunately, there is a lot of genuine interest in Thailand to help others in need, without being paid. It would be nice if volunteer foundations such as these received the donations.
  21. I am amazed by how many times these last couple years I think, 'Wow, you can't even make this stuff up!' Is it just me, or are others feeling the same way?
  22. I seem to recall the 200,000 was 'pledged' by the 16 local businesses as a reward to entice someone to come forward with information leading to an arrest. Pledged, meaning IF someone came forward with the right info, the money would then be collected and paid to the informant. Now it is 'donated' to the police? At first thought, it smells bad. However, I am sure those businesses felt absolutely sick about the murder, and have a very close relationship with the local police and other local personnel that were involved. They realize the benefit of giving a bit of extra support to the low paid responders and police, despite the visuals of putting them in the position of receiving positive considerations in the future.
  23. Realize that Google traffic gets their data from the reported position and speed of cellphones travelling along routes. The algo is quite sophisticated, but not smart enough to know about any Thai lockdown schedules. The traffic jam data must have included those that are stationary at home along the route, and as no traffic is travelling along a main route, it reports as a jam.
