  1. The woman didnt bother exchanging for some baht in the airport and maybe she was confused. And no SuperRich nearby. Maybe she felt ok because the same distance as Suvarnabhumi to Pinklao would be more than $70 in a taxi in Norway anyway..  So maybe she thought what the heck it's the Land of Smiles , I'll give my driver some extra baht. Not what I would have done but to each their own. Half that amount would be enough to Pinklao including tip. Feel good story all around. :) ..and she got there without being robbed or losing luggage

  2. You can never be very sure of anything you try to do at the embassy in KL. It is not one of the friendly Thai embassies. And that combined with that it has a small uncomfortable little waiting room where people might constantly be climbing over you or brushing past as you wait your hour to be called back to the window and told to bring back extra documents you weren't aware of needing. It is a dice roll at best.

  3. You will get another SETV nearby, for example - Penang, Vientiane, Yangon, Ho Chi Minh City, etc - - provided there is no warning remark on any of your visas in the current passport. Depending where, they may even give the visa if a warning remark is present so long as it is not from them. The rules are so fuzzy these days. Bear in mind each of the above embassies/consulates have different rules about what they want you to show them before they issue you the SETV. Penang or Vientiane may be good choices to try it!

Checked on other forum origional poster gone missing however guy up there yesterday put his application in on Thursday picked up 60 day TV yesterday,  states no change for 60 day  TV.

He had to show no funds or ticket out or accomadation.

Seems the FB page which OP states is incorrect.

I am only quoting what I read today. I hope it is indeed incorrect. Didn't intend to put up a scare post, just asking if it's true or not and did anyone else have it happen to them. Sorry if what I posted seemed like something other than that.

  5. There was a post went up today on a FB visa advice page from a person who said himself and at least 3 others were asked to show bank statements at the Vientiane consulate when applying for 60 day tourist visas this week. Anyone else heard anything about this? The person did mention that what happened to him, and maybe the others, seemed to be because he was applying for his 2nd SETV in a row.

When I went to Kuala Lumpur I found just about everything cheaper than Bangkok. Also, Malaysia issues 30 day "visa" exemption.

Malaysia offers 90 day visa exemption to some nationalities although if a person decided to live there thru 3 or 4 of those 90 day stamps in a row then I wonder if immigration would start to ask them more in depth about what they are doing there. But for week long visits the limit seems to be endless unlike in Thailand where once some people have a few of the exempt stamps in their passport, they start getting pressured a little upon entry.

  7. Seems credit and debit cards not accepted. Some people have been unlucky to know about this strange little rule in advance of travelling. You probably won't be asked to show the 20000 baht but if you are it can be in baht or any other "readily exchangable" currency. So I would think notes like £,  €,  Yen , USD , and a few others would satisfy what's needed.

If you wanted to be very technical, it would probably be good to have a few thousand baht more than the equivalent of 20k baht in foreign currency, just so that they don't try to use a lower baht rate and say you are a few hundred baht under. If you can get what I mean. $600 USD was not long ago the equivalent of 20k baht but I always kept $700-800 with me to avoid any potential debate about the amount.

Lots of people have reported that travellers checks are ok too.

I don't see why an immigration official would need to update an arriving traveller's flight number.

Each time you enter and exit the country, if it is by air, the flight number is included in the line of data, along with visa length, time of day passed thru immigration, birthday and nationality etc. The IO updating the flight details is something I am 100% sure they do as I have seen it.
