You are not gifted in physics, are you? Then perhaps you should not quote articles that you do not understand. The catchy headline you quote is meant for the general public and to gain notoriety, maybe some interviews on American TV and such. To physicists, it's clear that this was a lab experiment designed specifically for the purpose, under conditions that do not exist in nature. Similarly, there have been experiments "demonstrating" time travel and such. Also in astrophysics there are phemomena (diffusion of a light beam from a rotating source off integalactic clouds) that can be interpreted as fast-than-light speed. Relax, laser travels at about light speed in our atmosphere, which btw is more than sufficient to fulfill the destructive purpose.

Considering how many civilian aircraft have been brought down by human mistakes or errors of judgement, I am far less enthusiastic than you about this news.

Never claimed to be gifted. Then perhaps you shouldn't accuse without any solid logical footing. Copy that? I assume you do. Good. Know your place.

Wrong Asian to be confrontational with. I don't simply kowtow and say yes yes my white lord.

300 times the speed of light…. LOL….laser beams are made up of photons. Light cannot travel faster than light, nothing can (barring ‘communication’ between particles in quantum entanglement)

regardless, i'm just happy to see Israel developing such sophisticated weaponry. better Israel doing this than China (maybe not for long as they are master copycats)

  3. This is amazing defense technology. The Israelis are truly gifted when it comes to security tech. Unlike missiles, a laser pulse has zero drag and mechanical friction to contend with and to slow it down making distance of target a negligible concern. A swift and unforgiving killing tool.

  4. I remember going to the yellow bank's exchange outlet at MBK. The lone fat lady with a perpetual scowl on her face wasn't happy with me interrupting whatever she was engrossed in (looked like Line when she put the phone next to her keyboard). I told her I wanted a cash advance (thinking it might be cheaper than two ATM withdrawals of 20k + 10k) and if she could please tell me the fee for 30k baht. "PASSPORT!!!" she shouted back after I handed her my card. Ignoring my question about the fee, she checked my name on my card and on the passport. "NO HEB MIDDLE NAME ON CARD!! CANNOT!!!" and she returned my card and passport with the same ineffaceable death stare and quickly resumed her Line chat. Next to the counter (literally next to it) was the bank's ATM so I proceeded to withdraw the 30k baht. She saw me take the cash and gave me another tee-hee derisive look.

  5. I believe they will only grant the 5 or 10 year if the ECO is absolutely satisfied that the applicant is financially and professionally secure in the long term (evidence of affluence and well established ties to Thailand that is unlikely to change over the years).

So many elements are taken into consideration such as a positive travel history, sufficiency of disposable funds, historically solid savings and immovable assets, employer's references providing persuasive and compelling assurances of employment after the UK trip. The more, the better the chances of a positive outcome.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions but it seems I was wrong about the problem only occuring when on Asean Now.  Today I had several tabs open (but not Asean Now) which is not something I normally do. Two of them had a lot of graphic content and the laptop froze again after about 30 minutes use.

I've also noticed that its quite a lot older than I thought it was - its just not worth the time or money trying to locate the fault. Updating it and adding more memory with no guarantee its fixed is most likely a waste of money. I'm going to replace it and leave this one in Thailand to replace the one that was stolen last year.  I have a Thai friend who's an IT teacher, I may ask him to look at it and he may well have some memory kicking around.

I highly recommend switching to a Chromebook. Some of them are affordable but all share one thing in common: they work like a charm. Plus they're virus-proof, malware-proof and very easy to use. When a chromebook is restarted or rebooted, a systems check is automatically performed which is how topnotch performance is maintained.

    10 mo/year every year, a Tourist ?

I've also wondered about this concept of long-term tourism. Staying 10 months a year is more likely what a resident than a tourist does. It's none of my business, I realize that, but isn't this also frowned upon by immigration authorities in other jurisdictions? I know for a fact that the EU have limits (maximum of three months within a six-month period) and even if this rule is respected, there is a high chance of being refused admission if a regular pattern of exhausting the max 90 days rule is detected. Similarly, maximum stays apply for stays in the UK, US, Australia, Canada etc.

All of that aside, if one is quite wealthy, then long-term tourism is certainly justified which is why there is the Thailand Elite visa for such individuals. It dispenses with all the worrying and running around for extensions and visa renewals.

  8. I let my 1Password app do all the generating and securing of passwords. Use a unique and complex master password to secure the app itself, fortify further by adding 2FA hardware keys (Yubikey) and throw in some good old common sense when choosing which links to click on and which to ignore and you have unbeatable security.
