Just now, NorthernRyland said:am I only the only person that thought Vietnamese people were a little aggressive and not very friendly? I only visited Hanoi and they weren't pleasant at all. The honking by itself was enough to keep me away from there anyways. Maybe the south is nicer.
Honestly I don't even consider Thai people that friendly, compared to Americans at least. I don't know why they get that reputation honestly. They smile back at you is all I can think of.
I agree. I dont think Thais are that great either..........very false smile, no manners, me me me attitude. But better than UK, so I am ok here in Thailand.

Spain is a fantastic option, or Portugal.
I lived in Spain a number of years. Lots of stuff a lot cheaper than Thailand........now......but that did not used to be the case. Thailand prices are increasing at an alarming rate.
For sure, if it turns out I am taxable here in Thailand, I will be doing just under six months here, 3 months Vietnam, 3 months PH (or Laos, Cambodia). I have a long time Thai gf, and need to make it appealing for her also.
Spain would be very desirable for 3 months, but the air fares are a joke at the moment, and it would be cheaper to pay tax here in Thailand.......... 🙂

its really none of our business.
yes, its obvious what is happening here........but we are not Thai, and we choose to live here or not...........for now at least we have that choice....
before we start criticising Thai politics, we should all take a long hard look at our own governments, especially UK and US

to say you got ripped off is an understatement
3 weeks ago i had inguinal hernia repair at Hua Hin Government hospital.
I was in for 2 nights, VIP single room, food, meds, nurses, everything...........19,000 baht.
I had open repair.
I shopped around big time before choosing which hospital
all the private hospitals would give me an estimation, then ask me to sign a disclaimer stating, but if this, but if that.........etc..........i walked away each time......could see through them easily.
nearest quote i could get was 100k, but if, bla bla bla

Nice riddle OP, but the only thing that matters is that you remit 24K a year into Thailand.
Your mia nois are independent contractors so they have to take care of their own taxes.
Your tax on approximately 900K baht would be calculated in progressive brackets; first 150K baht at 0%, next 150k baht at 5%, and so on.
Let's break it down for your particular case:
0-150K bracket (0% of 150K): 0 baht
150K-300k bracket (5% of 150K): 7,500 baht (you may be eligible for a small allowance of 30K-60K in this bracket, which can result in a reduction on your tax bill of around 2K baht)
300K-500K bracket (10% of 200K): 20,000 baht
500K-750K bracket (15% of 250K): 37,500 baht
750K-1KK bracket (20% of 150K): 30,000 baht
Let's add it up (assuming no allowance):
7,500 + 20,000 + 37,500 + 30,000 = 95,000 baht, which is approximately 2,500 USD. Not so bad.
Now, I think that if you're looking to lower your yearly bills, we should take a closer look at your expenses with those mia nois instead. 40K baht/month for sleeping once a week with each is not the best business deal around.
In other words, you're paying 40,000 baht to each, and you only sleep 4 times a month with each. And I'm not even taking into account the business expenses and overhead of hiring them legally through US companies.
But even assuming that your business expenses for each hire are 0, you're still paying 10K baht for every time that you get laid. This is way above current market prices, which fluctuate around the 2K baht mark.
With the above being said, if you're serious about lowering mianois-related expenses, contact our advisors, and we'll gladly assist you in selecting a solid roster of beautiful mia nois in their 20s at the best possible market valuations.
or pay nothing..............no decision is made on taxation of farangs yet

I gave up cycling here after a dog ran into my front wheel near Majestic Golf Club, Hua Hin. It was a domestic dog, and the Thai owners found it hilarious. But I am recovered now, and they are still fat and ugly.
Also too many close calls with idiot drivers who like nothing better than to overtake you and then turn hard left, just to cut you up..........this happens when on a motorbike also.
This country is way too dangerouse for cycling...........never again.
Very sad loss of life in this instance, poor buggers supposed to be enjoying retirement.

While getting a cortisone injection in my already arthritic knees, the Doctor pointed out bone spurs within the knee joints. He was using some kind of scanning device to view the joints to guide the needle.
We were pressed for time and I didn't have time to question him in any depth. Usually, cortisone injections give me immediate relief but not this time and I suspect the bone spurs have a lot to do with that.
For many reasons, I have been avoiding knee replacement surgery. The last two days I've been studying-up on arthroscopic bone spur removal but hard facts are tough to come by. Has anybody here had this procedure done locally? I assume not out-patient. How many days in hospital post surgery? How difficult and fast was recovery? What were the costs per knee? Where did you have it done?
Any and all information appreciated.
castor oil soaked in a tea towel and wrapped around the knees daily for at least 20 mins 3 times a day. use plenty of oil

you are correct. Back in the 50,s it was modified not to grow so high, because the natural wheat was growing too high, and breaking off before harvest. So the Scientists invented the <deleted> that we have to eat today

The most ive had is 220 while not on test and at that rate I had severe problems. Other stress issues. Some people have naturally very high pulse rate and blood pressure rates. More to it than just one reading on a meter being higher than perfect 120. But you are the master of your own domain . Good luck with whatever you try to improve your overall health. Try it all and go with what works and makes you feel good.
if you think you are ok with 160 then good for you
personally, i think you need to address this, and fast.

I bought a pack of rubbish bags at 7-11 yesterday. Didn't open it & had the receipt.
Went back to the same shop today, approached the staff at the entrance to show I came in with the item & asked if I could exchange for something else. She said yes.
Good, collected a few snacks and headed back to the cashier. Out of nowhere she says "cannot". Surprised I asked why and she replied "more than 1 day".
WTF. I bought a pack of plastic bags less than 24h ago, never opened the pack & cannot exchange ? I didn't even ask for a refund.
Then I insisted and told her that the other staff said this would be possible. The gates of hell then opened wide ensuing with swearing in Thai, angry faces and what not. Eventually she said "I give you money back". I said I can just get other items instead but she insisted I just get the money & leave the shop, as a punishment for my wrongdoings.
I left determined not to place a foot in that shop again.
Moral of the story:
1. A reminder that foreigners are welcome in Thailand only while they're walking ATMs. If you're actually asking for something back, well...good luck.
2. 7-11 has ridiculous unwritten (at least in English) policies. Caveat emptor.
typical Thai if you ask me.
why does everyone say they are so nice?
I dont think so..........the niceness is all an act
me me me attitude is norm here.
selfishness and lack of manners is typical.
ever know a Thai let you out in traffic?
ever know a Thai let you in front at checkout if you have only 1 item?
still............its better than UK........and ok for me now........but i need regular visits away or it drives me nuts

Guys we've just moved in to property. Our agent has said he would do our TM30, which i thought was unusual.
How do we check if it has been done? I had a look at the website, felt lost, and ran away from the screen.
Dont worry about it. Its not up to you to check
Just make sure that you go to IO to register you are living there, and make sure they give you the paper to put in your passport that you did that.
Job done.

I have been doing it online for years, and all of a sudden, I have been rejected onine the last 2 times.
Had to go to IO and report done and accepted no problem
why all of a sudden declined online after years of success???????????
You tell me..........fecked if I know..........typical of Thailand though, and its starting to get a bit tedious.
I think I need a break from this place, not been out the country for 3 years now........maybe I will find the Thainess cute again after a break.................

5 hours ago, FruitPudding said:How are there so many slim, petite, slender Thais?
Especially compared to westerners. I don't get it.
-They don't fear carbs.
-They don't avoid sugar.
-Most of their food is stir fried in bad oil.
- They don't do keto or any other fad diet.
They don't prioritize whole grains or greens.
- I don't think they count calories or out any effort into staying slim
-They don't have a fitness/exercise culture.
How do they do it? It is just good genes?
They pretty much live off lots of white rice, sugar, and oil with some meat and fruit, while never exercising.
Any insights?
from what i am seeing on a daily basis is an ever increasing Obese Thai community. I have never seen so many fatty Thais before..........such a shame
