  1. I don't want to seem mean but these pictures are terrible. If the photographers could see they would probably agree with me.

It does help if I view the pictures blindfolded - then I can better understand the photographer's view point.

I can't believe these pictures really were put on exhibit - must be a scam here somewhere....

You are not mean, just close minded, remember we are talking about blind people here."None are some blind as those who will not SEE" :D:D:)

  2. "I think we deserve to suffer to show us what we've done"

Was discussing the changes in Land Department policies on Thai wife's owning land and company structures owning land basically making it much harder.

Also discussing the increasing number of scams such as the King Power one discussed here.

This is a woman in her fifties who does not think that making it less attractive and more difficult for foreigners to invest and live in Thailand is a good thing.

I wonder how many other Thais look at what is happening with worries for the future as opposed to the very short term view that many take

Not many would be my guess, they are all to busy playing Yellow shirt or Red shirt, to give a Buffalo"s Butt to what is really going on. :D:)

  3. Irish Clock, nice, well appointed, restaurant, street parking, Only 8 or 10 rooms 850B

or Top Mansion, spartan but clean, parking lot, ~75 rooms 350B

Both on the same street about 100 meters apart. Both have websites.

Many bars within walking distance -- can't miss 'em.

Double down on this area<Nickthegreek, between Irish clock and Top Mansion there was(is) a place call Day and Night, is where all the sweet young things hang out at. least it was there back in March on my visit. Good luck hope you have a great time up there. :D:)

  4. I've got a car. The car has a windscreen. And over this windscreen is a very thin film. Or something like that, as I've been told.

    Questions:

    1. Why do they put a film over my windscreen?

    2. How do I get it clean again? Now, when I drive after dark in the rain it is bl***y dangerous. Can't see a thing. :)

    3. Where can I go (in CM) to have it cleaned if I can't do it myself?

edit: add no. 3 to keep it CM related

Windscreen/film are good for keep car/truck cool. I have no problems after dark, you keep film in different level of darkness(40% 50% etc) my beef wish it was Mandatory to be able to see the driver.

  5. .

For colonic irrigation detox in Chiangmai, I recommend Janrawee House spa.

I was there for my first time this week.

    Here's a review.

First, why might colonic detox be important while we are in Thailand?

Since moving to Thailand five years ago, I've been diligent about getting detox.

The reason is that food in Thailand is usually delicious, but often not clean.

So it's useful to regularly wash out the exit route.

I won't describe or promote colonic detox -- there's enough of that elsewhere on the web.

The comparison for my recommendation of Janrawee is the detox clinic at Yanhee Hospital in Bangkok.

Yanhee is very well-equipped, clean, and efficient.

I've been there seven times, and have no complaints at all -- I recommend Yanhee, too.

The key difference is Yanhee is a hospital, and Janrawee is a private spa.

Janrawee in Chiangmai uses the same, advanced, equipment as at Yanhee.

The facilities here are spotless and very pleasant, as you would expect from a slightly pricey spa.

    Service is caring and careful.

That would make it ideal for a first-timer with no previous experience of colonic detox.

English language at Janrawee is limited, but sufficient.

If you don't speak any Thai, just go slowly, smile, and ask all the questions you wish.

Janrawee offers free transportation -- which I used both ways.

I arranged for pickup when I called for the appointment.

The driver came early, which impressed me.

For my first time, I was given their standard detox solution of dissolved mineral salt.

They also offer coffee solution, which I will order next time.

Cost of detox is 1,500 baht for a single session.

Package of three sessions is 3,000, which works out to 1,000 each -- three sessions for the price of two.

    I bought that package.

There are other discount packages available, but I'm leery of giving Thais money in advance, and that was the smallest package to get a big discount.

For comparison, Yanhee Hospital is just over 800 baht per session.

    No packages.

Plus, going to Yanhee you must include the cost of taxi two ways, because no subway or skytrain anywhere near .

So the overall cost is about the same.

Janrawee is a middle-level spa, of which there are dozens just like it in and around Chiangmai.

The colonic detox seems to be their main attraction, and that's what attracted me.

Other than that, offers the same as every other spa in town.

However, while there I also had an herbal steam and an herbal scrub.

Cost for both together: 950 baht.

Very nice, but nothing special, and I wouldn't go out of the way just for that.

But as long as I had my clothes off anyway, I ordered those, also.

I tipped 200 baht for the herbal scrub -- that girl worked hard for an hour -- but I didn't tip for the detox; not appropriate.

    Gentlemen:

Spas like this are marketed to tourist females with lots of time and little to do.

    Men customers are rare.

But I was treated with total courtesy.

What helped is that I had a Thai woman friend call ahead to make my appointment.

That way there was no question that the services I expected were services they provide.

And I dressed totally opposite tourist style.

I wore a fresh, ironed, buttoned shirt, with long trousers and proper shoes.

All of the above ensured that the staff took care of me in a very polite way.

Also, I went mid-day on a weekday, so less likely to have any tourist females around.

I can't object to foreign elephants visiting Thailand, but if I can avoid them, I will.

One negative -- but not bad really -- is the up-sell for packages.

You can expect up-sell at any tourist venue.

I handled that by being "all-business" when I walked in the door.

There was a hint that the staff was going into their programmed, up-sell pitch, but I quietly said, "Just detox today. Where do I go to get ready for that."

Immediate understanding; the up-sell book was closed, and I was guided into the detox room.

However, at the conclusion, the up-sell started again when I went to the front desk to pay.

Because they knew I am a Chiangmai resident, they had two ladies, working together, with big smiles, trying to point me toward the most expensive membership plans.

I simply paged through their rate book until I found the package which offered detox, 3-for-the-price-of-2, which I bought.

That is the best "deal" on offer there.

How do I know it is the best deal?

When I selected that particular package, two up-sell ladies -- in unison -- stopped smiling.

Here in Chiangmai, there is at least one other spa which offers colonic detox, but I have no experience.

There may be more; I don't know.

I'm pleased to find a clean and well-organized detox service here in Chiangmai.

Price range seem to be on Par, maybe a visit next trip to CM :):D:D

  6. Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and after some advice from ex-pats living in Thailand.

My husband and I are Australians, living in Adelaide. We were married on Koh Samui in Dec 2007 and spent a month there on our honeymoon. In Dec 2008 we spent a month in Phuket. Ever since we first arrived on Koh Samui we have wanted to move to Thailand and live on a beautiful tropical island. It's something we have been thinking and talking about for the last year and a half.

We are now planning our next holiday in Koh Samui for Dec this year, and we are seriously thinking (again!) about making the move (we are thinking about arranging to live there for one year first before doing anything permanent like buying a house).

I know there is a difference between being on holiday and actually living in a country but we really feel so happy when we are in Thailand and it is so different from our busy, materialistic, work-driven lives in Australia. The Thai people seem so happy, friendly and relaxed. Obviously the islands are beautiful. We would love to live by the beach and live a more laid-back life style, maybe with part-time work, spending lots of time together, and actually getting to do leisure activities like swimming and yoga etc (things we never have time for here).

Does anyone have any advice? What is it like living on Koh Samui or Phuket? Are VISAs for a year very difficult to obtain? Is it easier if you get a job? Are there frustrations or difficulties living on these islands that I wouldn't know about?

Any advice you have would be very much appreciated!

Thailand is a good place and for the most part a fairly SAFE place to live, however; your plans for Holiday in Koh Samui for Dec is your best bet for first hand information up close and personal. Now by all means my I suggest that you visit other parts of Thailand on your visit, see some real old fashion Thailand, sometime the tourist's attrractions can paint a false picture. Find, if you do not have a trusted Thai Friend or a fellow Aussie mate that live in Thailand and for sure ask many many questions. Hope you enjoy your visit. CHeerS!! :D:D:D:P:D:D:):D:D

  9. Lighten up dude, for sure Pattaya has it share of problems, scammers, scumbags, dope dealers, you name it, but many just might choose to stay for awhile till thing impove, not to worry they will return, so in the mean time if I were there I would relax and enjoy the Calm(peace and quite) :D:):D

  10. Have now returned to two wheels after a few years.

Last machine in UK a VTR Firestorm and did have a ZZR1100 in early 90's.
