In continuing astonishment I see well educated people (Thai friends and friends of my Wife) who do no use a Child Car seat !!!...  They post on facebook from their cars with kids unrestrained and free on their laps or in the back, a tragedy waiting to happen.

Only a handful of Thai friends I know use their car seat for their children 100% of the time - the standard response when I ask... "Oh [child] doesn't like it"... I point out that their kid would like it a lot less if involved in an accident but that point gets missed.

Again, further tragic and 100% avoidable consequences.

I seem to remember an advert featuring a high end car on TV here a few years back either a soft top BMW or Merc, with a young girl standing between her parents, no restraints at all, the locals see that sort of thing and think all is okay, same as the ridiculous car ads here, monkey see monkey do type of mentality.

RIP young one, just another tragic victim.

You can see from his latest immature "smarty pants" reply he would be sitting in whatever it is he lives in squealing with delight at getting some attention. I see most of these gutless miserable excuses for a human normally have a little following of loyal hangers on, liking all of their posts. If they get a few other people adding negative comments they all jump in too to put the boot in when it looks like the coast is clear.Chiming in when necessary.  Got a similar thing on another post yesterday. Same atypical type of cretin. Sits on TV everyday just waiting to snipe at people. Obviously nothing better to do. I gave him the same sort of response and he commented why do I post on TV, don't I have any friends lol. I don't know why the mods don't cull these people off the forums. Some of them are just doing the same thing everyday. Never have any knowledge or anything of benefit to add. It can't be good for the long term good of what is generally a great info recourse for all of us.

Got too agree with you there Kenny, these cretins have no beneficial input to the forum at all, there are probably a dozen that I can think of as a waste of oxygen and should just be shut down because all they do when they hit the keyboard is create disharmony, as the saying goes " Empty tins make the most noise " and in some of these cases it is patently true.

  3. So when are the authorities gonna introduce low emission zones & congestion charging as they do in other countries, London being one of the main area ??

And then be really radical and provide electric bikes for hire or other ways to get around the capitol that don't pollute ?

Sorry I just remembered where I was.

On a brighter note all the dinosaurs in government might just keel over when their lungs are full of carp ????

I was going to suggest the finger tapping test for Parkinson’s or similar, tapping the middle finger and thumb together as Fast as possible and comparing left and right sides. I can tell you it is very noticeable on the 'bad' side.
I kept my silence as a full exam is best and to see what Sheryl said.
I would hope that one of the specialists was a neurologist......do u know this? One would also wonder what the blood tests were to see what’s been excluded from diagnosis. Do you know?

Thanks for your input, I haven't seen him for a while as my Mrs has been busy with her mother at hospital in BKK so no time to visit the family, as to your questions, I don't know is the honest answer to both of them, I won't see him for a while either as the Mrs is off on some sort of pilgrimage with other family members very soon, but when I do see him I will try the thumb - finger test on him.

My mother had Parkinson's so I know what it looks like and how debilitating it is, she went from an active outgoing and busy world traveller to a hermit in next to no time, very sad to see. ????

He needs to be seen by a neurologist specisluzing in neuromuscular issues/movement disorders and that is probably what is scheduled.

There are many possibilities including early onset Parkinsons Disease which is unusually common in Thailand and thought possibly linked to pesticide exposure.

Gabspentin is used for neuropathic pain, seizures and other conditions where there is a problem with transmission of nerve signals. Its use in this case is not unusual (though may stop once cause is diagnosed) and nothing I would be concerned about.

The Thai government health care system does work but it takes time with a comparatively rare and specialized condition like this. A poor farmer in my village had exactly the same thing and it took several months before they got a handle on it, but they did.

As long as he is being referred up the line to specialists I would not be too alarmed. Occupying a hospital bed vs. being an outpatient is not going to make a difference at this stage. If there is a sudden dramatic worsening or onset of any trouble breathing should rush him to hospital, otherwise continue with the prescribed consultations.

It is unfoftunately likely that this will turn out to be a chronic disease (Parkinsons or other) that has no cure though some symptomatic improvement might be possible with medication.

Just a quick update, he went to see the specialist in late June, they did the bloods and other tests, all came back with no result, he was referred to another specialist in a different hospital, all tests came back negative again, sent ho e with no medication, that's fair enough and told to do gentle exercises like lifting small weights etc, I still am of the opinion that a lifetime of exposure to nasty pesticides and insecticides may have taken its toll.

PS. Thanks for your input. Much appreciated.

  6. Can I have a couple of minutes to get my head around this please................

Okay I've had a real good thunk about this, a Member of Parliament has been found guilty of murder and is currently in prison, did I get that bit right ? Oh I did, good, so why on God's green planet do they have to debate as to whether he can maintain his MP status ??? Sack the piece of carp, strip him of all his worldly goods, in fact strip him down to his underwear and let him rot in jail for life.

Same goes for that other heroin smuggling (and possibly) murdering goon currently still in office, this country is beyond belief at times it really is.

  7. As far as the OP is concerned I really don't know, but I would have thought that they could call the police, trace the runaway farang - not difficult go to Centara, they have a copy of his passport and supplied a TM30 to immigration, put an alert out, he will soon be caught and made to pay in blood and bucket loads of cash.

With regard to tipping, when I first came here I adopted UK norms for tipping IE: 10% - A Thai girl soon put me wise to that and told me that 20 or 30 Baht was more than enough, and that was for a restaurant.

Now a bit older and a bit wiser I now tip on the quality of service, if I am in my usual bar the girls get maximum 20 Baht, they are doing nothing special other than taking a beer out of an icebox.

Me & the Mrs usually eat out 3 times a week at the same place, where we go the service, no matter how busy they are is always spot on, the staff are friendly and no request is to much of a problem, I will tip 40 or 60 baht depending on the evening.

We usually go out for a Christmas meal at the same place (last 3 years) It is a special occasion, I know Christmas is mainly irrelevant to Buddhists but they make the effort and the service is special and personal so I will tip 200 Baht

As for the USA I made a mistake in Florida one year, I was on my own and sitting in the hotel restaurant I had a steak and stuff, I forgot to leave a tip - Big mistake, the following day the lady picked me up on it and asked what was wrong with her service !! I left a slightly larger tip that day ????

That's nothing! Junta leader Prayut spent billions of baht on homes for his army of Public Relations staff all over Thailand in the lead up to his Thai Niyom vote buying cash splurge. He had them everywhere to make sure he got full media coverage.

Sorry, can't find the link now but I am sure it was a TVN news item.

Lets not forget the brand new housing estate on the side of the Soi Dao mountain up in Chiang Mai for the judiciary.  ( I think I remembered all that correctly, someone will let me know if I goofed up) ????
