I have just had a look at that, thank you, I tried to register on my tablet a week or so ago but think I messed it up, what is a house ID No. ? I have no idea so left the field blank and when I tried to submit the request it was saying 1 field still needed to be completed, also do I need to only provide copies of my passport & my rental contract and list myself as the 'possessor'?

that is the way to go. I have used that method for new and replacement cards.  It's by far the best option, but never 100% of course, but if it doesn't arrive, you just tell the bank and they will send replacements.  I double wrap them in tin foil and double the envelope. as a result make the package slightly larger than just cards.  I don't know if this helps, but it can't do any harm to disguise them a bit.

I'll do that & tell my daughter to stick some cardboard or something in it and declare it as family photos or something ???? Cheers for that ????

Amex shipped my replacement card to Thailand via DHL. I have used both FedEx (from the US) and DHL (from the UK) for other bank plastic. The latter will cost about 50 quid and takes 3 days.

More recently, I have had my bulk UK mail forwarded by my sister using Post Office 'tracked & signed' and that included new bank plastic. I think the total cost was 11 quid and it took 7 days. I go online and book and pay for it, email the shipping docs (pdf) to my sister. She prints them out and takes the lot to the local post office for drop-off the next day. I pick it up from my PO Box the following week.

I have just been looking at Royal Mail international tracked, it seems to be the way to go, I checked DHL and FedEx, they seem to be okay but as you say expensive, hopefully my daughter has a post office nearby.  ???? She lives in deepest darkest Devon

  4. Firstly a bit of background info, my new Credit Card has arrived at my daughters in the UK, she has shipped one to me before along with debit cards and such with no problem using Parcel Monkey at a reasonable price.

It would appear that Parcel Monkey have updated their Terms & Conditions as It got as far as the International Gateway (their description) and was refused due to it being a restricted item !!

My CC company won't ship it to me here as the account address is in the UK

I have checked DHL & FedEx T's & C's they won't ship Bearer bonds, lottery tickets, letters of credit, cash, foreign notes or bullion Etc, I think debit & credit cards could be okay, so can I ask who you use to ship things like CC & Debit cards these days from the UK. TIA.

  5. I have a Samsung laptop, the battery life is at best 45 minutes when not plugged in, I have it plugged into the mains when I switch it on and is left like that until I hit the sack at about 23.30 hrs.

I have been using it like this for about 7 years.

  6. It was probably an advert for some dodgy steroids or similar, so the mods or admins delete it or something but the link still shows in the sidebar.

Well then, how can we help?

Sorry, I thought were being sarcastic rather than sincere, it is difficult to gauge someones intent from just the written word sometimes.

I don't recall dismissing any of the suggestions on here, some people may have skipped some of my replies as I have already changed the batteries, checked inside (under the covering of the inside unit) and as reported it mysteriously rectified itself and now seems to be working normally. for how long I don't know.

I can't authorise repairs off my own back, I have to report faults to the landlord and wait for him to get back to me as he has a number of properties and a 'Team' of workers who do the stuff for him, last time I did something off my own back he wasn't very happy, the washing machine went tits up and I just went out and bought a new one, and told him a few weeks later, ???? He wasn't a happy bunny, I have had small repairs done without telling him but with this he has to authorise repair or replacement.

So thanks to everyone for your invaluable input, professionals will be here on Saturday to fit a new AC. And yes I also get the ac's cleaned about every 4 months by a guy who knows what he's doing for about 500 Baht a unit.

  9. Thanks for all the "Helpful" replies chaps & chapesses. The actual landlord (actually landlady) has been over ruled by her boss (the guy with the money) and will have a new unit fitted in the bedroom, a better result than moving one 10 year old unit from one less used room to the most used room. ????

Thanks all for your helpful replies and will check various bits as we go, once again, Thanks.

I don't want to start a fight, I have just seen your qualifications (for want of a better expression) DIY & electrical forum expert !! Okay fair enough, I was out having dinner with the Mrs when I read your reply, sorry if it sounded dismissive, it was meant to be ???? Plenty of other guys or even gals for that matter (equal rights and all that) and the fact that my daughter is a qualified mechanical engineer have chuff all to do with it have offered their advice, but you ask " Well then, how can we help" ?

I know nothing about air con or electricity or plumbing, brickwork, painting walls, you name it I know sod all, so I reach out to the wider community here and ask, I have had some helpful replies.

You didn't exactly (as an expert) help at all, thanks.

Are you certain its not white coat syndrome.

Certain, I had a very nasty experience as a 10 year old in the UK, back in 1963, an extraction that went horribly wrong and ended up being a surgical extraction where no amount of Novocaine would work, over 2 hours in the chair in agony and eventually collapsed on the street outside, you don't forget that in a hurry, my BP here was 260 over crazy, not WCS. Thank you.

When you say noisy - what do you mean exactly? Is it a standard domestic unit?

WRT the reset button, often it is 'hidden' near the battery compartment of the remote and needs a pencil/pen/paper clip to depress the button.

Standard domestic unit, the fan in the main unit is very noisy, it wakes me up and I have to switch it off to get some decent kip,

I will look when I get home, but as mentioned it looks like the landlord has decided to bite the bullet and stump up for a new one, good tenents are hard to find these days and we have been there for 5 years, never a problem or take the <deleted> with regard to problems, many of which I have had fixed without the landlords knowledge ????

Because believe it or not but some members may have had the same problem, and have a valid answer to my question, unlike you.

    why not repair this one???

If the guy (handyman) that came to look at it and scratched his head is anything to go by then they don't have a clue, the landlord is usually pretty good on things like this but are a bit out of the picture as they are in Norway, it needs a qualified air conditioning guy to inspect and report back to them but they use people totally unsuited for the job, I don't want my landlord spending money unessacarrily if he doesn't need to but they need professional help.

Did you at some point accidentaly press the timer button to an off time, locking the system out.

I didnt think using other remotes would make a difference, they are programmed to each unit

All the remotes work all the units, and no I didn't hit the timer button. ????

Might have been the remote, sometimes you have to move the battery

about a bit ,then works, and you did check the battery in the remote.

"I have informed my landlord but his wife is loathe to buy a new one"

typical Thai landlord, happy to take the rent, but fixing anything....

    regards worgeordie

I changed the batteries and used all the other remotes and it still wouldn't work, it has seemed to have reset whatever the problem was, and although noisy it is working ???? It looks like the owner is going to buy a new one (Yippeee) hopefully won't be noisy and cheaper to run, result ????

  18. Hi all,

I'm just looking for a bit of advice & guidance re a problem with my air con.

Firstly the house is rented so the problem ultimately lies with my land lord, but I consider myself to be a responsible tenant and not take the Micky with my land lord as he and his wife are nice people and treat us well.

The other night I went to bed and hit the power button to fire up the air con and nothing happened, I tried the other 3 remotes (all the units are LG and look to be the same size) still it wouldn't work,  I ended up having to use a long handled broom hand to power it up with the power button on the main unit. Of course this then means that it is running at minimum temp, 18 degrees or thereabouts when I have it set normally for 26 or 27 degrees, the room becomes like a freezer and in the middle of the night I have to get up and try and switch it off with the broom handle again.

This has been going on for a couple of nights now, but just out of habit I tried the remote and now it is working again !!

Can anyone point to what may have happened for the air con unit to not to respond to the remote ?

The house is about 10 years old and as far as I can work out the AC's were installed when the place was built, so is 10 years good for an AC unit ?

The unit in the bedroom is always serviced regularly as it's the only one we use, the others get a service if we have people (Family or Friends) coming to stay for a while.

I have informed my landlord but his wife is loathe to buy a new one and wants to use one of the units from one of the other rooms to replace it with ????

Thanks in advance for any insight into the problem you can give.

Must be. I would say man up to be honest. The days of drilling ad hoc are long gone

You have no idea, I ended up in ER due to my blood pressure going ballistic last time a dentist tried to look into my mouth for a check up.
