  1. A friend of mine has a Non B without a work permit, which sounds like it would be the best way to proceed here. As I understand it this is much more restrictive on what you can actually do, but much less hassle. My friend is contracted (not employed) out of the US and his payments are basically a commission for ensuring that goods manufactured here get to the US on time and up to quality.

To get a WP you need a Thai company with at least 4 Thai employees unless there is a special arrangement for your particular industry under BoI.

If you're prepared to be a little more creative then you could either be technically employed in Germany (assuming you have a German/EU passport?) and pay your tax etc there, while living here on a Non-O.

The best route depends on how visible/active you will be within Thailand. If you're arranging stuff offshore and just happen to live here, working out of a home office then I really wouldn't worry about it. If you're doing business in Thailand with Thai companies and looking to employ Thai people then definitely keep it all above board.

This seems interesting, but I have also taken on board the comments made thereafter.
Would be of interest to understand what documents your friend produced at the time of Visa application?
Anyway, I also know very well that matters can get subjective when it comes to Visa application of any kind when dealing with the Consulate officers.
If this where to go ahead my working exposure in Thailand would be almost zero. I want to reside in Thailand, but my area of resposibility initially work wise will be neighbouring countries & India
  2. You would need to set up a Thai limited company to do this fully legally

"consultant / no business in the region" but setting up a Thai company for a work permit with all the hassles plus paying income tax? w00t.gif

To clarify, the mentioned European company has yet to venture into SE Asia and now wishes to do so.
I will be employed as a subcontractor on their books and I wish to remain in Thailand.
For my salary I will need to produce an invoice monthly for services rendered/expenses an submit it to HO of this German company.
I need to understand how I can legally set myself up to undertake matters legally, which will INCLUDE Work Permits, Visa etc...
  3. Previously I have worked for Foreign companies with there own entity established in Thailand.

Therefore work permit, Non O visas & income tax payments have been straightforward to undertake/maintain.

I now have been approached by a Foreign company that wishes to employ me full time as a consultant but has no business established in the region.

What then would be the best way (if there is a way?) for me to set myself up here in Thailand so that I can manage the work permit, Multiple entry Non O visa's & Income tax payments myself?

Assuming there is a way to undertake the above, the intention is to pay my salary directly into my account here. How creative can I be on declaring the full value of funds I receive? I want to be fully legal in all matters, but maybe creative in some!

  4. Not to be sounding preachy at all since I ride here 10 years & in the states close to 40 years but drinking & biking does not sound at all like a sane decision in LOS.

Yes I have gotten toasted on many occasions but The older I get I think more of keeping the 2 hobbies separated.

The group or groups of riders I go out with don't drink while they ride. Just not a safe mixture here in this country. I know I usually will have more than a cocktail or a beer if I am drinking. At least in the states people are not driving on sidewalks & the wrong way unless they are to toasted.Probably safer to ride down to Koh Pangagen & have the special omelet instead of alcohol.

    You make a fair point.
But lets assume we are addressing this at civilised & responsible riders and maybe change the title to 'New Biker Friendly Pit Stop in MSK'
  5. As one of a bunch of local Expats starting to frequent this newly opened bar, I would like to ask how can the propriators spread the word and affiliate the pub to the various bike clubs within Isaan and Nationwide?

Being a keen biker, the Kiwi owner and his Thai partner wish to encourage passing bikers to stop by, Expat or Thai!

  6. Stock tyres from new on my Forza are Dunlop Scoot Smarts 120/70-14's

In fact I have found them to be very responsive in all conditions and speeds, not once have I experienced any traction loss scares!

I initially had fears that in the dry and perpetually dust/debris coated roads of Isaan traction loss issues might frequently arise as most of the time I stay close to the curb when riding.

Reason for the post (although I am happy with the Scoot Smarts) is to check if anyone has experience of an alternative 14" scooter tyre I should consider when replacements are due?

  7. Living in Maha Sarakham either destination is straight forward to reach.

Next time however I plan to try Savannakhet for my double entry tourist visa.

    My questions are:

    1. Are there any favourable issues comparing one to the other when it comes to ease of receiving double visa?

    2. Savannakhet is a small town, so any accommodation recommendation to suggest?

    3. For future reference is there any merit considering alternating double visa application between both locations so as to reduce the likelihood of the 'limit' being flagged?

  8. Lets say for sake of debate that he managed to pay off or 'take care of' all his opposition when things started to go sour for him back in 2005.

What would his black money coffers and megalomaniacal ego been able to achieve over the past 9 years?

Would he be ruling the country with a fist of iron? Would Thailand now have place of honour along with North Korea in the access of evil top 5?

Or would TS and his entourage gone the same way as Gaddafi and Sadam by now?

  9. Ones political & religious beliefs are very very individual and should not be used as basis for emotional manipulation/blackmail especially with close family or friends.

Equally our response to such encounters are very individual.

I am sure it was a very disappointing incident for you and I trust it was just frustration a 'spur of the moment' thing that prompted such an outburst from your wife?

Hope it works out for you.

  10. If Thai people know my name but still refer to me as 'Farang' when introducing me to other Thais, well I take exception to that and in no uncertain terms tell them in front of their friend what's what's!

But as a general label i don't mind it.

Anyway, better than being referred to as Kwai Lo ("white devil" - A derogatory term used by Chinese to address caucasians) as is my experience when I lived in Malaysia.

  11. All quiet on the NC front!

I am curious to know now that a few weeks have pasted how you are getting on with your NC?

What are the pros & cons compared to your Forza experience?

What really impresses you about the NC and what negative issues (if any) have you encountered?

  12. Best thing is to spend a few days there and look around.

Often you will find handmade signs "For Rent' (in Thai) on all sorts of properties.

Not much English spoken there so if you can speak Thai great, if not make sure your with someone who can, and someone can trust.

Other option is ask your local connection to do the leg work for you. Give them your requirement spec, budget, length of rental required? and ask them to take pics.

You could find some real bargains. We found a very nice new shop lot in my gf small town for THB6,000/month. It's worth spending the time to dig deep.

  13. When Foreigners go Troppo!

Check it out on Facebook, ...anyone know this individual?

He states from a protest site:

"I love Thailand. I had joined the rallies with Thai people about 1 month. And we stay together, eat together, sleep together on the ground road to Protest in Thailand. Even if, Thailand was not my Birth Place and not my country. But i lived in Thailand Land. I will never to BETRAY this land for SURE!!"

    นายปีเตอร์ รอนสัน
    Mr.PETER RONSON"

  14. ...what Thais living in your country discuss, debate &, bicker about on their own equivalent blog site to Thai Visa!

What would be subject matter of their most common posts?

How would they tackle romantic interaction with the locals?

Would Thai's abroad stick up for the indigenous folk and accuse other blog members of "Farang Bashing!"

Other than the main General & Main Topics, think of the counties or states in your home country, would there be an equivalent to an Isaan Forum?

What unique forum topics do you think would be very specific and important to Thai's abroad?

Maybe some of you can give us actual first hand examples if you are living in your home country with a Thai Wife?
