Just for your info, the usual hotel they stay at near me asked double what they paid last September, and wanted a 75% deposit transferred up front not less than 10 days before arrival

I have a family of friends who have come here every year for the last 8 years, traveling through Asia visiting me during their stay. This year they have already said Thailand is off the list. So not nonsense. Price for the family of 5 was a factor, immigration requirements was another and safety the last

Other Asian countries looking a much safer bet

Too late, the damage has already been done. Tourists are voting with their feet.

It's all they want and exactly what they get, the low end cheap Charlies that come in droves, same as the digital nomads. TAT daily spout about numbers not quality. They certainly aren't getting the quality millionaires that they would love to target. Name me a millionaire who wants to go to Pattaya to cruise Walking street to see the scantily dressed whores parading around in front of go-go bars. Thailand get the dregs because they cater to the dregs. Other countries offer what the middle upper class want, and that's where people are migrating.

If they don't sort out the tariffs with USA they will be truly sunk in the future. Thai ministers saying they will just subsidise some Thai products will not go down well in Washington. That's exactly what China does to sell in the market place to under-cut others. I really do think the Thai ministers don't realise the game is up.

Which is exactly why tourist numbers are dropping from previous years. Tourists are favouring other Asian countries that offer more safe amenities than just walking streets. And have fairer pricing. Thailand is pricing itself out of the market.... the numbers reflect it.

Illogical argument How would you feel if you went to a foreign country and had to pay more for everything than the locals. Just because you can afford to fly somewhere doesn't mean you are rich. All people should pay a fair price and an equal one.

Most of the users of the 50/50 scheme are civil servants who enjoy a reasonable salary and take all the national holidays given, or the wealthier upper class who don't work. Cash strapped locals tend to be self employed day workers who never go on holidays.

It's the way Thailand has always acted... Foreigners are perceived to be ultra rich and therefore a target to get ripped off.
