  1. List of interested people

Please enter your name, phone number and email as a start.

    - J. Klaus Weil, phone: 072574808, email [email protected]

As a public forum I would recommend using someones PM for personal information or email .

Looks like your it Klaus :o

  2. The enthusiasm is there.

    Where there a will there's a way.

Does anyone have committee experience and leadership qualities? Rules of engagement are critical if the Group is not to be highjacked.

Issan is big and some form of communication would seem important to keep "members" informed.

All this can cost money. would say a 1000bht intial membership be acceptable? Certainly a place where childen and Thai wives/girlfriends are catered for seems important.

Suggest steering committee of interested members meet in a Korat Hotel Lounge initially. Does the Sima Thani or Sri Pattana ( next to Passinee Restaurant) appeal for a July date. If six put their hands up. Its on! The more the merrier in case of "apologies"

  3. I know beef is not widely eaten by Thai's but the country imports a vast amount.

The beef industry here is in a mess. Cattle, mostly Brahman type are kept as a status symbol and for manure. Heifer calves are prized and bulls are sold at 6 months for the local market at 150kg,not hung and tastes pretty bland.

Khon Kaen University have an experimental cattle farm. Does anyone know about it please?

Growing grass here is not popular except around rice fields on the banks.but intensive grass is grown for dairy cows. The flat Issan counrtyside is not suited due to the rainfall and flooding of fields but undulating or sloping land could produce good crops if irrigation is available.

Beef Bull semen to improve conformation and growth needs importing unless someone knows of a beef farm?

Any info on the subject would be welcome or will the response just be a load of bull?

  4. If you have to ask the question then you probably should not be venturing into farming rice.

At 5bht per kilo the Thai's cannot make money.Unless you have an irrigation system and the water is free in tanks from the local reservoir and you can diversify and rotate crops forget it.Rice Rice Rice and the land is short of essential nutrients. Rotation and manure are the answer. If you can keep cattle and grow maize or vegetables or chillie or something else forget it. Water shortage is the big problem. Look around the area and see the barren fields ( Hang Lang).

  5. There are an increasing number of farangs in the Korat Province, whether or not the old stagers like it and it may be time to start an Expats Club. Could be an informal meet at a local watering hole or hotel. Most don't need reminding of the Pattayaexpats Club success and the obvious need for an information based and communication linked centre. Has anyone settled here thought of getting involved or is staying incognito part of the attraction? :o

  6. Went to Kap Cheong yesterday from Nakhon Ratchasima.6 hour round trip including stop for lunch.

I had a 30 day tourist visa and wanted to extend it for not more than 15 days. Completed Internet application form replaced on arrival with their form. Passport and one photocopy. Photocopy of flight ticket out of Bkk included on the same photocopy. Plus one passport photo for application form. Cost 1900 bht. Took 10 minutes in total. Thanks to all for support.

  7. Very helpful, thanks to one and all.

Anyone know the Kap Choeng Immigration Office opening hours/days and latest one needs to arrive to get "processed"?

I am only applying for a Tourist Visa extension of less than 15 days. I understand that in fact one gets another 30 day tourist visa from the date applied, rather than an extension of the original visa?

Travelling from Korat, if I do have a problem, I may decide to stay overnight in Surin rather than Kab Choeng. Any suggestions on "B&B" or better in either place?

The Immigration Office in Korat were helpful and most upset they could not get permission from Bangkok to issue me an extension tourist or retirement visa. They will do the 90 day check. They have all the facilities and officers speak good English. They do not appear on the Immigration Bureau website yet either.Influence appears to be needed. Any suggestions?

Also anyone going for the first time its down the Mittapab-NongKai No 2 road out of Korat. Keep in the left lane. Before St Mary's Hospital and before the first turning left after the Mittapab road "junction to Khon Kaen" turn into the Government building on the left. Once inside keep left. The building has a sign in Thai outside and inside the double doors has the "Immigration" sign in English. Yes I know its daft. They have been told. I think it may be that until they are fully fledged they don't want to attract attention.

    Hope that helps!

  8. Just to note that the Irish Pub in Korat (next to the Sima Thani Hotel) has been open every day this month except for Makha Bucha Day.

I realize that no one who reads this forum can afford the 60 baht beers at the Irish Pub, but in case you run into someone with real coin you might let them know that the place seems to be really, really open, for sure, yeah.

Real Ale? or UK brews? I could just do with a "Black and Tan" Any popular special time or day of the week when farangs congregate? :o

  9. Looking for up market furnished accommodation in or near Korat? Need separate living and sleeping rooms and must have kitchen area. Staying at Simanakhorn at present but its pricey for one month and even for a years contract. Any suggestions? No comedians need reply!

  10. Good news. 90 visa check can now be done at Immigration office Korat (Mittapab-Nongkai Road nr St Mary's Hospital)

Bad News. Visa extension needed and Korat office not yet set up for that. Can anyone help with directions and procedure at Kap Choeng? Nearest alternatives are Bangkok or Pattaya?

  11. Having bought the motorbike for cash, where can I register it and how much does it cost and are there any pitfalls?

Where on Mitraparb Rd is Lung Nilan?

What should be a "reasonable monthly rate for two rooms etc...

Hotel car hire is always expensive. I know there is a Car Rental place near Tesco Lotus anyone know of any others?

Internal flights from Korat? Does Asia air operate out of Korat. GF would like to visit Chiang Mai district. By the time you add up the times extra to the flight time is the train or bus a better option?

What is the "city" electric and water rate in Korat please?

Any one out there based in the Non Sung,Non Thai,Kham Sakae Saeng area?

  12. 6 times in Thailand this year and can't seem to stay away. Must be love.

Thinking of buying a new 125cc motorbike in the GF's name and getting her to sign a non sale document. The only way of protecting my asset. Presume I cannot buy and register in my name.

Car hire also wanted Korat based if poss. Any suggestions on inexpensive hirers inc CDW ins.

    Hello.

I live in Korat(19 yrs. now). You can find many apartmments/Villas for rent at 'Lung Nilan' on Mitraparb Rd. at reasonable monthly prices.

The point about buying a motocycle is that as long as u pay cash, the bike can be solely in your name!

Car hire can be done thru. any large 3/4 * hotel.

Good Luck! (Chok Dee :o )

    bann yangyai

    Thanks
