  1. "I believe there are other options that teachers could resort to when disciplining students. Schools can get parents to closely take care of their children," he said.

And just how would teachers do that? Perhaps they have a magic wand somewhere......

I think most of the "western world" teachers would adore to do work here.... In the west pupils can do what the <deleted> they want! Teachers are just to lame and afraid of beeing sacked from a sissy headmaster or beeing called from law officer when they deal with unruly youngsters. Kids of today just cant take a NO,STOP or QUIET word.

In Sweden there has been hefty debating why school toilets are so dirty. Why are they dirty? The school cut on cleaning or some kids have a habit of not using toiletpaper and smear on the walls??? Whats the problem?? It might be a combination.. but both are bad enough-enough said.

School should not be a right but a privilige.

I dont see a problem from ban a teenager from school. If west can educate older persons, then Thailand can do the same if they grow mature and wants an education.

  2. Amazing how people immediately blame ark bar for the incident. All the mud slinging has now reason whatsoever. As a long time resident of samui and a regular visitor of both the ark bar establishments I can do nothing but laugh at the ridiculousness of some of the comments on this board.

How on earth can ark bar be held responsible for the situation? I'm pretty sure the staff didn't encourage the fight? There is usually a very good reason someone gets into a fight, very rarely do people just attack random people. So what did you friends do to encourage such actions? I was at ark bar almost every night over the past high season and on average there was between 1 to 2,000 people on the beach there daily as they had their daily beach parties. And in the 2 weeks or so of daily parties I saw about 5 minor scuffles and only 1 brawl where the staff wasn't able to dissuade the brawlers. Taking into acount the number of people there were and the fact that 98% of them were pissed as farts that's not a bad number.

And I also saw the attitude that a lot of young lads had there, loud and in your face. So it's not surprising that their would be conflict, but that is now fault of ark bar, is it?

And regarding loud music, I saw one poster saying music can be heard as far as Beverly hills? That's just ridiculous no matter how you look at it. Yes the music is loud, that's pretty standard for a party place. But there is a very simple solution if you don't like loud music, simply don't go there, there are thousands of other people who enjoy going there and having fun.

I for one enjoy the atmosphere, music and drinks. Yes the fireworks are a problem, but how does one control that?

In the mean time I will continue to support ark bar and enjoy the parties there as it is the best party place on samui...

    B) You're the one that's ridiculous mate ! Where I live, in the hills above Chaweng Noi, I hear the music loud and clear (5 kms away) and I know the owners of villas on the hill to the micrwave tower have had guests checking out because of the all night noise coming over the water (8 kms away) Newbies like you have f-----d this island !

Never seen someone cry like you Crusty. We know your mentality from the your "lifeguard" thread how you bragged and felt proud that you called the cops to prevent tourists from take a swim.

And no its not the bars fault that someone(or you) gets in a brawl!

  3. Never lived there and you plan to move? Big mistake.

First have a look! Maybe for a month or so.

    My personal!!! opinion:

What are the medical facilities like? Not so good.

Can you get everything you need there? No.

Is it more expensive than Bangkok? Depends. It is definitely more expensive then the mainland

Do you need a car to get around? With a family, absolutely.

Is it safe for young kids? No

Is there a good swim school? No

Which school would you recommend? None!

Is there a big expat community? No, only during high season it is infested with them. Rednoses i call them.

Lived there for a while (about 4 years ago), and went back recently for a short holiday.

Living there was because of the children increasingly difficult.

    Holidays on Samui are great.

I can not agree more :whistling: Samui is not a place to move to and bringing your family to the missery is even worse. Bkk and the old coconut island samui have 0% in comparence :whistling: to what you expect and wants in reward. Samui is ONLY good for holiday and sorry to say, there are few who outlast just a few years on this island that has absolutely NOTHING to present to you as you usually takes for granted.

Samui is full of raceists,no matter if they are white or comes from northeastern Thailand.Bkk,Shanghai,Singapore or Hongkong is places for families to move to.Not Koh Samui!!

Read and scroll on the internet but jump a few 1000 pages to the accurate hits on google or try your luck here on Thaivisa.

Cheers from a almost singel and "no need to make cash i thailand long time resident"

  4. Can you imagine the uproar from Thai people if this happened to a Thai national in the U.K. ?

There, you surely made the best point of the forum... ;)

No one (being longe enough in Thailand) can imagine anything worse than that.

Agree fully! Its sad the once rich countries spend money on bail out other countrys just to be next in line begging for the same after a while. This BS has gone to far and we humans are clearly beeing sacrificed.

I say EU can make and prepair a goodiebag kit for ppl who needs it.Stuffed with shampoo,soapbar,toathbrush/paste,and a set of clothes plus some Euro coins eqvalent to what a guy/woman makes on a coffiebreak in Brussels.

Iam so freakin pissed at what my taxmoney being used at.

99,99% of a country population dont need a foreign embassy.Let the 0,01% who needs it pay for the cost. They can surely afford it.

  5. Sad accident as they all are.Very bad things happens on the roads of samui.

I personaly never use a helmet when riding my wave and its my call :) I also never use racing gear to protect the other 98% of my exposed body  Do i feel comfortable on the roads? Big No!!! But what can i do-With or witout helmet...

Life goes on,tomorrow is a new day with new challenges for most people.Ppz calling for regulations (got to) adjust to the system.Bangkok is the powercenter of Thailand but here on Samui people dont bother. They do their own race. :jap:

  6. Every year this topic about drowning comes to be "talk of the ThaiVisa Samui" So many members talking and witness around all those X00 or X000 person each week?? or month?? falling victim for the huge monsterwaves that constantly pounding the samui beaches or the monstrous tidalcurrents and ripcurrents.I must admitt that im not one of you guys

I know for sure that a very few numbers of people drown each year on samui and actually this formum use to have their own thread about the victim-Right?

Just becouse someone step on a shell, get touched by fishes or boyfriends hand :whistling: and make a surprise yell in the water should not be accounted for in this statistic survey from tv members :whistling:

Btw: Everybody wants to be heroes and i have not a singel doubt that he might have a waveriding machine between his(sorry girls) legs and be a bit darker than you :jap:

So you know for sure huh ? You were probably not here in '99 when a police general lost his two daughters, the Thai vendor whose two kids were swept away, the two teenage drunks that drowned and the two tourists that drowned one in front of Centara and the other off Poppies, all in the one season at Chaeng! You sound like a "know it all" !

I drank probably the best beer in the world already 1992 here on Lamai beach. Not sure if you read the posts but i wrote that a few nr of ppl drown each year  Samui is absolutely no dangerous place for swim and i do include people who have never been closer to open water than a bathtub.320 days a year its flatwater and basicly no tide.Shallow water on chaweng do the rest B)

    Mr Lamai

I thought Trolls were not tolerated

Well your trolling have been noticed(Not since 1999 ;) ;) ) by me and others. Some take their time to comment all frogs coming out of a few big mouths here.

    I dont...

  9. The Thai's definitely call it Bangkok Hospital... I had a call from a nurse there once when my ex was in an accident, she told me it was the nurse calling from Bangok hospital (speaking Thai) Lomprayaban Bangkok...

This thread is insane!!!!!!!! Lomprayaban Bangkok :):D :D OMG!!!

  10. Could you answer a simple question please.

How could you understand a Thai speaking Thai. You don't speak the language do you. I know people that have lived here for years who would'nt have understood a word he said.

I have other questions but this one is of particulour interest.

Very suprised that the OP has'nt replied to some very helpful posts. Were that someone was involved in a situation like this, they would know what to do.

A sceptic would say this is a troll. No Thai EVER refers to Bangkok when talking to another Thai. They ALWAYS say Klung Thep. No tourist would EVER be able to understand a Thai telling others in his native tongue that info. In short you would not have had a clue what was going on would you

If i am wrong i apologise and the best of luck :)

Hahahaha best one today. Klung Thep!!!!!!! Does you and Gf go Klung Thep often? Is it your GF who take care of the lookings to Klung Thep or you find them online hahahaha

  11. I just wish the foreign media could focus on HOW much the elected government have tried to handle the situation. They have AGREED to new election within 9 mounts!!! Go home poor, uneducated farmers and dont let you be fooled by greedy politicians or even killed by YOUR protectors!!

Kidnapping and threats that PM must do this and that is not tolerable in ANY country. Where are the special police forces???

Its about time to scrap the rubber bullets and make a message!

  12. Words spreading fast ! Here on samui the motorcycle gangs already making their plans how to act as pimps for the farang when he wants to order beer. Rumor say they will have a fixed price of 3,75 Bt for a beerbtl and 5,25 Bt for a drink(if there are an umbrella inside the glas they will boycott and tell you to cancel).

This is a great way for us if we want to enjoy barlife AND save money at the same time!!!

    Cheers Ersta Aprilia

  13. The newest learnings about CPR is that the airflow is secondary, heart massage is NOT!!! I'm sure the dive instructor can advise but you certainly have to make clear its about an infant.

Its the same method as on adults but instead of using your palm you will use just the fingertips of 2 fingers and 2 SHORT(His/her lungs are small) blows of air each 15 seconds.

Just an advise to others...If some ugly or disgusting person just fall down in front of you,and you know the basic of CPR(and he/she is in need). If you mind about the mouth to mouth inflow each 15 sec, just do the heartmassage with a rate of 40-60/ minute.Make sure someone calls for assistance and continue with chest pressing maneuvers.

    This save lives!!

  14. Asphalt looks promising....But how does the climate on this subtropical island affect? It seams that no one here remember the total disaster when the Thais tried to asphalt the mainroad in Had Lamai sometimes in the early end of 90`s ?

Lets hope the quality of the bitumen has improved and the fact, that it now has a much better ground will make it last and that it will not crack into billions of small stones that will make the road more slippery than the area Bambi used to dance on.

  15. She is working as an English teacher but what the pappers dont say or make clear, is that her work is located on samui. The rapist is, if not born on the island, a very long time resident.

Rapists are not very popular anywhere on the globe and now since they cought him i doubt that he will get away that easy.

One rapist less and for some ppl amusement, one less taxidriver on this island.

  16. Iam living in Lamai and this morning between 0400-0500(didnt look at the watch)... there were first one very very loud bang witch was followed by a smaller "explosion" a minute later or so. The sound didnt come from thunder or firecracker unless it was dynamite.

My wife also woke up and run to the window saying that now the gasoline station must have exploded.

I heard a couple of times during the time of the concord when it broke the sound barrier. That sound is comparable to what i heard this morning but i have never heard of supersonic aircrafts cruising over samui and the "explosions or whatever it was" maybe not happend in the vicinity of lamai.

Someone here who can confirm the bangs and maybe have an explanation?

    Regards

    Mr Lamai

  17. Why not listen to what educated health experts has to say? Just ignoring as most ppl here suggest will not help to prevent and stop the outbreak. Also bear in mind the outbreak is in the very very early stage but it has already taken so many lives. I hope the Domesday Sayers are wrong but we have to wait and see how the virus have mutated when it will hit Europe with full force in Dec or Jan.

  18. I know the Mayor and the Tesse Bahn are taking this problem very seriously and there have been several meetings and trips to Bangkok to meet government ministers to resolve the meter issue . I think any feedback from tourists who are using taxis would be very welcome .

thats interesting Mr Churchill but half the taxi's in bangkok don't use taxi meters.

i really don't know how they casn stop it.

99,99% of the taxis in bkk use meter. There is a strip of 300 meters at the beginning of sukhumvit soi 4 where its meet Sukhumvit rd and a strip of 50 meters on Sukhumvit rd soi 21 where its hard to get a cab willing to use meter. Avoid taking taxi on these places and there is absolutely no problem!!!

About samui we have to wait for reports before judging.

    Mr Lamai

  19. The good warm food is long time gone. I still think that this airline did serve one of the best lasagna i ever have been eaten. Porkfile and potato gratin was also another hit!!

Ground and air service is absolutely outstanding even if just have coldcuts sandwich nowdays. But there is one thing that really annoy me. Why on earth cant they verify that my CC is genuine and not stolen instantly??? I can book and pay for basicly everything on the spot by internet but since a year or so back in time you can not book a flight(not even check availability) on their web page less than 24 hours in advance.

    Mr Lamai

  20. Much ppl at Tesco?? I would guess T/L Samui have cut their workforce by 30-50% since their glance days.Shelfs are empty and the stock has become nothing but bad.

Try to have your coldcut done their. It used to be a long que of ppl and the meat were very fine and fresh, nowdays its not eatable after 5 days in your refrigerator.

Are their fewer tourists....like 50%...... on samui today compared with same day one year ago? SURE without no doubt i say.

It was many years back in time since their was so little traffic on the roads of Samui.

    Mr Lamai

Although I prefer Big C over Tesco, yesterday all but 3 or 4 cashiers were open and a line in fornt of all of them. Haven't seen it that busy at tesco since a very long time!

It's as busy as usual on Samui, this time of the year, imo. Driving around was a nightmare, traffic everywhere and mini traffic jams all over the place.

Again, just my experience and pov.

I am not in the line of arguing, there are plenty of these persons already :o But my opinion that samui and the hoteliers suffer BIG time is solid. I also do prefer Big C nowdays.
