  1. This subject seems to pop up once a week now...

As I mentioned on this forum a couple of times before, the import of used vehicles into Thailand is prohibited. Very few exceptions apply (diplomat passport to start with...).

They used to have prohibitive duties (up to 400%) in the past, now it is no longer possible altogether.

I guess I have to make a deal with a diplomat then ? ... :D Be callin' the Dutch embassy right now. "Wannah borrow my car somethimes ? ... Then listen ..." :o

  2. You are totally mistaken Mr. Dutch. China will diversify their currency holdings not abandon the USD. The Chinese will still hold the majority USD in their basket of diversified basket of currencies. The USD is still the strongest and stable currency in the world, even though it is falling in value. The USA economy is worth 13 Trillion USD. The only close countries are Japan and the EU. This is no where near China even with the fact that China is now the low wage factory start up capital of the world. China may have surpassed Italy in GDP, but China's Per Captial Income is far below that of Italy.

:o Should'n you be using CAPITAL LETTERS, , UNDERSCORED and at least SIZE THREE in Italic RED ?

  3. Forget about having a long life!

I'm a buddhist...and I believe in rebirth.....Hahh...It's nice to start everything fresh again :Dthe sooner is the better!

:o Well in that case, a rope might help ...

A moderate life ? Is that the same as a dull life ?

I'd rather do it all, then live 15 years longer, without doing 'anything' and to live just to prolongue your life (which you cannot control anyhow ...). I knew a man who never drunk and smoked; he was a sportsman. He was 23 (last year) and he told his father : "I have a headache, I'm gonna lie down". Three hours later his father came into the room and he was dead. My great-grandfather drunk Gin (actually it was 'Jenever', which the Brits turned into Gin, when Dutch 'Stadhouder Willem' (William) and Mary became their king and queen late 17th century. He gave the Brits the recipe of Jenever to kick out the French Cognac :D). And my grat-grandfather also smoked cigars. He walked some 30 miles every day upto the age of 97 ! My grandfather lived to be 85. Which I sign for !

  4. Too late.

China has already taken control of many of the major rivers,

by building dams upstream in Chinese territory.

This type of strategy will be a major area of conflict in the years to come,

not just for Thailand, but all over the world.

Read this topic also, click ...

"Too late." Not for the Dutch ... they don't build dams, these are for producing electricity, not for protection and we don't have hill's here so we don't build them (Netherland means 'low land', it's totally flat and most of it belòw sea level ...).

I, however agree with you that the Chinese will "take over the world" ...

  5. The 'patriots' cannot think straight, because of their prejudge. It's like "Deutschland uber Alles" ... They [also] didn't make it at the end, due to their nationalist way of thinking. The depression of '29 is an example that American economics càn drop below zero. Suïcide amongst former rich where on a daily notice then. Ìf China sell's it's dollars and turns on buying Euro's and oil, then America will be in great danger to become a 'second world' country. If not a 'third world', after some 20 years.

  6. What possible risk would there be to national security having a foreign company win a contract to build a civilian infrastructure project?

Wanna take a guess what the biggest risk is to Thailand's national security and future? Try corruption. Any honest Thai would tell you the same thing.

    I guess you are right :D ...

why don't they just give the contracts to Singapore. They don't seem to mind that the telecom industry is owned by them. :o

Where do you think the Singapore's got their knowledge from ? ... I bet they have to hire the Dutch to do the job :D ...

  7. Click here for my first post ...

I saw a remark from someone who said he felt he'd die round 55. Then I can agree, not to wait too long.

I also saw a remark from someone who'd like to roll and play with his son, and therefor wanted a child at a younger age than 40. I say : If you keep your body in the right condition, you can run a maraton at 80 (some 42 km.) or older ! (See sportsreviews, one even did at 98 ! Okee, he didn't win ...). It's just upto yourselves !

  8. To anyone : I know the Thai roads are not very suitable and I will only use it on certain occasions for we are planning to buy an off-road jeep overthere. We are planning to settle near a highway, so I can drive it overthere (not especially for the car we settle near the highway, just for good transportation reasons). You never drive fast in an oldtimer, you just enjoy the ride in a great car ! Furthermore Mercedes has an oldtimer workshop and I can order any part from Germany (which they can make themselves and it's original; the price ? Yes, very expensive, but hobby's always are ...).

    As for overheating ? :D.

Do you know what a Mercedes is ?! One American had a 170D and was a salesman. He took it over 1,200,000 miles, set a record with a single engine and then sold it to a cab-driver in Mexico ! You know how many Mercedeses are in California ? It's quite hot in these parts. Did you know they build in old 250(D+) engines into boats ? Because the car rusted away, but the engine kept on going. Overheating is a Lada problem ...

As far as taxes ... I am willing to pay LOAD's of tax, as long as I can take my 'baby' with me.

NICE car though... It's the coupe/2 door model right, I honestly don't think I ever saw one.. Must be quite rare? I don't think I'd move that one to Thailand. Keep it in Europe and drive it when you're back there on holiday. :o Value of the thing should go up right, if you keep it in good condition?

Yes, it's a coupe/2 door model, very rare indeed. If they made hundred of thousand's other series, this 250CE (Coupe, fuel-injection), they only made some 6600 and how many you guess are on the road now ? I guess very little. It's in superb ORIGINAL (!) condition.

I think I saw one of these for sale last week, reply here if you want me to take a look and then email you.

    Cheers.

WOW ! Thanks, please do. Make sure you know the type of the car (say 280CE etc ...). And the first three numbers of any part (and de serienumber) state the typenumber (like 108 etc ...).

  9. Of course the Thais could benefit from Dutch expertise in this area. However, this is just a classic example of why Thailand is destined to be a 3rd world banana republic. Some people in the govt are astute enough to realize that foreign firms can build infrastructure better and cheaper than Thai firms, but corrupt interests won't let it happen. So typical and sickening.

They would be dumb (least to say), to let money and national intrest go befòre national security. If one disaster takes place again (God forbid), then the national savings will be more at risk, than with a good agreement with the Dutch. As America also has vèry protective (dollar wise) national industries, they knòw they need the Dutch and are seeking a way to come together, avoiding the national protective laws (which say only American businesses may to the job).

  10. Govt warned foreigners may take control of nation's water

BANGKOK: -- Allowing foreign investors to manipulate water development projects under the government's 1.8-trillion-baht megaprojects scheme could block public participation and give foreigners greater control of the country's natural resources, critics have warned :D .

    ---

Water development and transport projects are the most attractive megaproject investment plan, which also includes national defence :D , natural resources, information and communication, and cultural development projects.

    ---

The minister has, however, conceded that the department's knowledge might not be sufficient to consider all the proposals, and the ministry might have to bring in other parties to help :o .

    ---

    --Bangkok Post 2006-02-01

The Netherlands is (Dutch are) famous for the defence against water (dikes). Even the Americans are now visiting the Netherlands after the disaster with the Katharina hurricane, to learn from the Dutch and to make business agreements. America has very protective national industries and they are seeking a way to lead the Dutch into it (say 50%-50% development).

I guess the Thai minister should invite our Prince William-Alexander (head of water development) and make some deals to protect Thailand from future disasters. There are no other people on this earth more known with water development. There is a saying : "God created the earth and the Dutch created the Netherlands (Holland) ..." For they even create large pieces of land out of the sea.

  13. :D [it's funny how posts disappear 'like snow befor the sun', but maybe I will have to learn some 'local manners']

    :o

    ... :D

My avatar is a black leopard I made myself to move/animation.

Being in graphic's, I also 'arrange' stuff from other people sometimes.

... but never tóó nasty ! So the black leopard suits me well, I guess :D ...

  14. Wes Turner, reading your post, I see you cannot trust the DNA test. Guess what ! You can save them, then !

Here in Holland (the Netherlands), we've got fair notary's and good laboratory's. Arrange a notary from Holland and a notary from Thailand. Let them both take DNA from these blokes. Let them take the DNA to Holland for research and let the results deposite to the court by these notary's ...

It might cost you some, though, but your opinion can save these men ! Wes, come on and spend all your money to save them !

    :o ... :D

  15. At first I did a search, to be sure it is quite unique ... :D

"Sorry, but we did not find any matches to display. Try again and broaden your search criteria. If you were searching for new posts since your last visit, it's possible that there are none to show."

Suppose I would wannah' live in Thailand ... can I take my car with me ? (Oldtimer)

    ... :o

  16. With the www. we also got foul language for anyone to read. I visit Pravda a lot, and the foul language I read there is tóó bad ! But these blokes are mostly American's that put their 'loud mouth' overthere. I would not be surprised if a 'postman' like 'Buddist' (see #1) is an American.
