Yes you can apply straight away but you must address the concerns of the ECO in the rejection letter.
Unfortunately it's not uncommon for some girls to have one or two boyfriends on the go and as the calls seem to have been one way it might have caused some concerns from the ECO, I am not suggesting for one moment that your girlfriend falls into this category. When she reapplies she needs to address this concern explaining the fact that you call because you can afford to and of course it's cheaper to call from the UK.
Telephone conversations are not the be all and end all, the strength and length of you relationship is important, I have to say that knowing her for seven months is a tad on the low side, but others will say their girlfriends have been granted visas for a shorter relationship. During your visits have you travelled around Thailand or even better overseas, if so give copies of any photos.
You say your girlfriend applied for a six month visa, yes that is the minimum visa but how long was the visit? anything longer than a couple of weeks will start alarm bells ringing, did you explain the purpose of the visit and supply her intended itinerary?
The other important thing to address are strong reasons to return, studies, employment and the ownership of land or property, compelling reasons to return, with evidence, could outweigh the lack of evidence of strength of your relationship.
In short you can apply again but unless she presents a stronger case I fear the result will be the same.
Not neccasarily correct. For my (now) wifes first visit visa we said she would be in the UK for three months. I explained fully in my sponsors letter the reasons for the planned length of stay and her visa was granted within four days (her second visa was for two months).
If the only reason for refusal was 'evidence of contact between you' then that is all you need to address, you don't need to change any other part of the application as the ECO must have been happy with everything else otherwise he would have added the other bits he wasn't happy with to the reasons for refusal.
You can apply again straight away if you think you can address the reason for refusal.

fesantplucka can you tell me.... did you check the vfs website after your wife called you to see if had changed already or is there any delay??????????? its just my wife didnt have her money with her when she went in the room to hand her application in so we did not pay for the call/sms?????????
I was with her at the time, I checked the tracking system and that was also updated so they are working together no difference in notifiying in my case, also later in the day after we had the visa picked up the sms service sent her a message saying the visa had been collected, again the tracking system was updated at the same time, and the same message appeared, Good luck for today AndyJoy,
just checked on line with jamaician website and it still says "ARRIVED AT THE VISA SECTION" we got our answer week last tuesday.that sums up the british embassies world wide.
WISHING EVERYBODY GOOD LUCK THIS WEEK.
COULD ANYBODY TELL ME WHAT THE NEXT SET IS WHEN WIFE ARRIVES IN UK, MEANING MEANING N.I. NUMBER DOCTORS ETC..... MANY THANKS TO OUR BROTHERHOOD
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I think you can get an N.I. no. once you're married in U.K. and the visa regularised, assuming you haven't been wed yet. For a g.p., you just walk in and register, no question asked (apart from the usual form).
You're entitled to a N.I. by right as soon as you're in the UK and married but I've heard that some people are told they can't apply until they have a job. Thats not true but if it happens to you, apart from arguing the toss, the easiest way round it is to take your wife to an employment agency to register for work. They won't register anybody without a N.I. number and will give you a letter for the job center to that effect, and they will then have to issue a number to your wife.
Register with you're doctor A.S.A.P. and ask them about a medical card, they shoud arrange that.
Keep all these 'official' letters when they arrive, they will be useful as part of your 'proof of residence' in two years time when you're applying for I.L.R.

Yep, still here! An update on our situation is that we got Married on Monday n Bangkok and are preparing new paperwork to submit a new VIsa application.
We are using an agent this time as I feel the issue I have with my self employment is really important to get right this time, plus, I am sick of the hassle.
We are using Key Visa Ageny in Pattaya who offer a no money up front, no Visa/no fee service.
It's quite a lot of money but I really don't care, will spend the first months of married life away from my new wife and I don't want any more problems along the way.
Decided not to send in the appeal forms as it seems like a waist of time. The apeall must be lodged in the UK, not the embassy, so they don't get to see it. it is handled by the Home office, same as if you where appealing a criminal conviction, and they don't mess around. When you add the average of 9 months waiting for a trial plus the cost of a good trial solicitor, it just not worth it.
I did contact the Embassy as Pingit did and await a proper reply from them. They did send me a message saying that they have received my stuff and to stop trying to contact them on the matter so will just wait the 20 days and see what happens.
Back to the UK on Wednesday so just making the most of time with my wife today.
Don't know if it'll help fluidfusion but when my mate applied for a visit visa for his (then) g/f last year one of the things he was refused on was his income and he was self employed, and his income was high but not obvious in the accounts. I helped him with another application the next day and the one thing I did with his finances, end of year accounts and bank statements, was to basically highlight and index everything with different coloured marker pens on the assumption that the ECO might not normally trawl through loads of paperwork looking for the information but if highlighted they would look..... and they had their visa four days later. After that, and with applying for a settlement visa this year in mind, he got his secretary to produce monthly 'pay slips' for him, and he added them to his (again highlighted) yearly accounts etc. for his (now) wifes visa which she recently received.
Self employed accounts seem to be a bit of a problem with recent applications for a few people and I wonder if it's because the ECO's are that busy that they're not looking and anything that's not 'crystal clear'. Highlighting and clarifying everything to make it 'idiot proof' might help.
One other thing, when we've applied before I've always put each section of the application in a different labeled folder thinking it would be easier for the ECO to find what he was looking for but then my wife told me that the staff at the VFS center took everything out of the folders and put it all together in an envelope. So this time I stapled together each section (eg. employment, finance, housing, relationship history etc.) and labeled each one just for ease of finding whatever the ECO might want to look for. I don't know if it helped, we certainly didn't get the visa any quicker, but when we got everything back it was still stapled as I'd done it.

When Sumrit very kindly tried to work out when we might hear about visa on past visa dates and figures etc. he said if they were doing 8 a day we might hear on 13th July...if 6.5 on the 17th July and if Boo was right and if each Eco were given 32 at a time to get through and my sons was 'at the bottom of the pile' maybe around 21st July...so I am hoping something soon
Hi Kate, I was only looking at those figures yesterday. Everybody who sent me their numbers has heard by now except Chewy, yourself and one other who applied at the end of April and all heard within three days of the dates I suggested (my wifes was the worst at three days late
) so I've got everything crossed for you that you'll hear either this week or next. It seems to have gone quiet again recently, I just hope we're not in another three week slump like we had in May/June.
Good luck

Yes It was me who went to his MP but we are still waiting. We did get a nod to say it was been looked at on the 29th June but still no visa. I have another appointment with my MP on Thursday morning when we will be using his fax machine.
Good luck for Thursday
-
Has anyone written to their MP or to some other government office to complain or see if anything can be done?
Chewy went to his MP and there seemed to be a problem 'finding the application, so he was going to check up on what the problem was but I don't know if he's had any feedback yet, as far as I know he hasn't posted any here...........and he's still waiting.

just wondering how many of us used a visa agent ? i know it make no difference to outcome just curious thats all
thanks Alan
Sucessfull DIY application
If you do your homework there is no need to use an agency. Collecting the evidence required is the hardest part, amd even if u you use an agency you still have to provide them with the evidence.
Same here. The wife's also had three previous visit visas and we did them all ourselves
Same here too 1 SV and two Visit Visas done ourselves. Just got back from Heathrow from picking the Mrs up. Her flight arrived at 19.10 and she emerged 2 hour 10 mins later...........UKBA having a last laugh.
Thanks for the warning
, my mate flew into Manchester with his wife and two stepdaughters last week and said from touching down to getting into the car took lees than 45 minutes. Maybe we should all be flying into Manchester.

Here's an interesting report about an official survey into the standards at the British Embassy in Bangkok in November 2007 IMrecommendBangkokNov07.pdf
Despite some posters on this forum insisting that anybody who mistakes the Visa World office for the VFS center must be an idiot on page two it clearly states
Visa Application Centre: There continues to be concern that the Visa Application Centre run by UKvisas official outsource partner can be confused with private visa agencies operating close by, and which have deliberately mimicked the VAC appearance.Given that consumers often buy by price, I wondered whether large window signs “advertising” the application handling fee might be effective. For a visit visa the official partner’s price would always be £63 (local equivalent) but the opportunist agent will want to add on their own fees.
Because it states 'continues to be a concern' I assume the problem had been highlighted even earlier than this report, yet, although the VFS center accepted the report's recomendations after more than a year and a half things are exactly the same, nothing has been done to change the signage to make things clearer.

I have had an e-mail from the VFS that says they wont accept the VAF4A form you have to fill in the online application and then have an appointment to hand the papers in. As my stepson does not have a passport yet this has thrown a real spanner in the works. How can I make an appointment if he doesn't have a passport? When he has a passport we only have a one week window to hand the papers in.
Dave
You have always had to put his passport details down on the application, even before it changed from the VAF4A form to on line applications, nothing's changed in this respect. First you need to take him to a Thai passport office to get his passport, then fill in the online application, when you'll also be able to book the appointment for the VFS center to hand in all the paperwork and have his biometrics done.

Hi,
can anyone tell me if a ten year old child has to have a biometric passport? If so how is that done does the child have to come to Regent House with us or can we hand in the papers on our own?
Cheers,
Dave
if they are putting a fingerprint on it aswell the child will have to go otherwise the photos will do as they do it from that i got mine through the post just sent forms and pics
He hasn't got his passport yet, It only takes a week and we were planning to come back to Bangkok and hand in the paperwork. We weren't planning to take the boy with us because we didn't think we had to.
Do they want a fingerprint even if the applicant is only a nipper?
You're talking about two things here.
Firstly the passport is done by the Thai passport office and yes, your child does have to go in person so the Thai authorities can record his biometric details and take his picture digitally for the passport.
Secondly Regent House is where you go for the UK visa application, and again yes the child has to go in person so the UK authorities can also record his biometric details.

A friend of the wifes got her visa yesterday. She applied on the 20th March so thats 15 WEEKS and 6 DAYS. I wrote emails and faxes to both the VFS center and the Embassy on her behalf a week ago. She didn't get a reply from them, but got a text yesterday to collect her passport.
Problem is she's got to go through it all again now to get visas for her children. Apparently when she went to the VFS center on the 20th March she wanted to apply for visas for her children at the same time but was 'advised not to by the VFS staff dealing with her application'. They told her that if her application was refused then her childrens would automatically be refused as well so she could be wasting her money. They 'suggested' to her that she would be better waiting to see if her visa was granted first then apply for her childrens visas after. She took their advice not knowing she would be sitting in Bangkok waiting for her own visa for four months.
Just to add we didn't know about her application when she applied, my wife met her because her son and our daughter were in the same class at school and were both talking about going to the UK.

The child has to come with you to Regent House and have their biometrics recorded at the same time as the paperwork is handed in.

Chewy I can't believe you're still waiting, did you get any more feedback from seeing your MP?

ok folks i'm just gona dive right in here,i was talking to a bloke last week who is after a settlement visa for his thai wife and
daughter, his wife got a six month visa last year through an agency this cost 60,000 bht
so now he wants to get a settlement visa for the two of them but the agency have quoted 100,000 bht +flights, i thought this was a bit steep, but as i no nothing about agency's fees , mainly cos i avoid them like the plague,i told the lad thai visa will know but he hadn't even heard of t .v. so if any one can put him straight i'd be obliged.
cheers
If his wife has already had a visit visa last year then basically he can use the same information again (but bringing it up to date) plus for a settlement visa he will have to supply imformation on their accomodation in the UK and his employment/financial details to show they can live in the UK without recource to public funds, but he won't have to show that his wife has a reason to return to Thailand of course.
That is all the agent will do, ask for the updated info plus employment/accomodation info fill out the application on line with his wife and arrange for the TB test.
Assuming the daughter is Thai and not a UK citizen his wife will have to show she has both custody AND day to day responsibility for her daughter. If both applications are done at the same time then he can/will also be the daughter's sponsor.
Only he can decide whether paying an extra 30,000+ baht for that amount of work is worthwhile. If he decides to do it himself I'm sure he'll get all the info he needs on Thai Visa.

by the time she travelled the had expired, so she had to get a second certificate
Can I ask who told you she needed a second certificate?
As far as I'm aware, as long as the certificate is valid when one applies that is ok. UK immigration should have no need to see a TB certificate as one could not have got the visa without one.
I think we're probably all aware now everybody is told by the doctor at the IOM center that it's currently a requirement to carry the TB certificate in your hand luggage as you'll be asked to produce it on arrival in the UK but when my friend flew into Manchester last week with his wife and two stepchildren they were also asked if they had any certificates to cover any childhood innoculations his two stepchildren had as babies. When he said he wasn't told they needed to produce them the immigration doctor said it wasn't a requirement but that they liked to see them. He then inspected the childrens arms for 'innoculation scars'.
We're also flying to the UK next week so I'll post what we're asked for after we arrive. My wife's trying to find her daughter's certificates as I type this.
The Mrs flies into Heathrow this Saturday, I'll do the same and post what the ask her.
My mate said it was only the children's innoculations they were concerned about, the doctor didn't want to know what innoculations his wife had as a child.

Hi feasantplukka, all the numbers (phone, email and fax) tha I used are on this page.
http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/about-the-fco/emb...embassy-bangkok
I was able to (eventually) speak to somebody in the visa section by phoning the main number and choosing option 0 but I've been told you're now just put through to a recorded message.
Hope it helps.

Mikeyp you're wrong about needing to cultivate the sputum for 6-8 weeks. I've had TB myself so I know a LITTLE bit about it. It takes a maximum of three days for TB bacterium to start to grow in the culture trays, usually less, and that was fifteen years ago so there's possibly ways of accelerating the growth so it takes even less time now.
