  1. Hi firstly i just want to say thankyou to anyone who can provide valuble infomation as this is very important question for me and my girlfriend.

Im 24 and my girlfriend is 21 we have been together for one year and when she finishes uni in march 2007 we hope she can move to england to work and live together.

I am currently living at home with my mother and have not thought of moving out at this time, me and my girlfriend are planning to stay at my home for 6 mnths while we both work and save money then find our own place to live.

if all goes well we hope to travel to other places i,e italy, america etc can she do that on the visa you advise me on?

Thankyou for you help and any advice you give i will be very grateful to hear.

Do you mean you have been together apart (her in Thailand and you in UK)?

As you dont mention marriage then your girlfriend can apply for a tourist visa or a student visa. As you dont mention her desire to study in uk then can only assume it'll be a tourist visa.

With a tourist visa work in UK is prohibited, so is access to public funds (medical etc).

As it's her first tourist visa it is unlikely she will get longer than 6 months to stay in the UK but the good news is that it will allow her multiple entries during that 6 month period. However if she wants to go to any EU country she will have to apply for a schengen visa to get into that country, the schengen visa will allow her to freely travel from one EU country to another but if she returns to UK she will have to apply again for a schengen visa to depart for a EU country again.

If she wants to go to USA then she will have to apply for a Visa for USA.

The consulates usually advises that Thai passport holders must apply for all their visas in Thailand before they leave, in practice it is often possible to request them once in UK.

You will have to do all this in 6 months from the day the visa is issued to the day she returns from UK, she will then have to stay out of the UK for another 6 months before she is likely to get another tourist visa to visit UK.

You have to get a visa for America from the embassy in Thailand, they won't issue one in the UK. My wifes cousin tried when he was visiting us in the UK, and he wanted to return to Thailand via Texas to see his aunt who lived there. As for your girlfriend working in the UK She can only do that if you get married or she gets a student visa and studies(then I think she can work up 20 hours a week).

  2. Depends on which expressway you are using. There are two approaches. One is the Bangkok-Chonburi motorway and the other is take the Chonburi Bypass to the Bangna-Trad Elevated

The Chonburi Bypass toll is 45 baht

  3. So its only a few weeks before we retire to Thailand (from the UK). Thinking about taking a few things from the house..not furniture..bits from kitchen, garage etc..maybe one or two cubic meters.

Anyone know a company that may do this and anybody done this..all advise greatfully recieved..thanks

I have just sent a one cubic metre box (containing my PC and other personal items) frm the UK to Thailand, it arrived last week. The cost was £160 per cubic metre from theUK to Thailand and then I had to pay about 11000 baht here in Thailand for customs clearance, tax and transport to my home here, so altogether about £300-350. I can give you all the details (company etc) if you want them, let me know.

    Please give me details...

Yes my wife is Thai and I realise that all needs to go in her name..however we have been back to Thailand for at least 4 months in the past year..just holidays..she also entered and exited Thailand using her Thai Passport..does she loose her duty free allowance..is that allowance the 'one of everything'?

    Thanks

First I didn't send it in my wife's name, I sent it in mine. That could be why I was charged 2500baht this end (within the 11000baht) even though I had been told electronic items were duty free. Maybe somebody else knows more about that and can help.

You don't say where abouts in the UK you live. I come from Shropshire in the west midlands so used a local transport company called T.S.International Freight Forwarders Ltd. Their web address is

'http://www.tsinternational.com/index.php?wID=23' and they even supplied the one cubic metre box free of charge. I you don't come from the midlands ring them any way and if they can't do it themselves I'm sure they'll be in contact with a company local to you who can. They arranged for a local agent in Bangkok to deal with everything this end and they just phoned me when then box arrived. I paid them the costs incured this end and they delivered the box to my door the same day.I chose to send the box by sea because it takes 24 days for the journey. This meant I could arrange for collection whilst still in the UK then fly to Thailand and still be here before it arrived. You can send it by air, it takes two days and costs about £20 per box more. Hope this helps, you need any more info let me know.

  5. I believe if you want to get divorced in the UK you don't have to go through the UK courts, if you both agree you can get divorced through the Thai embassy in London. The papers are available on the London Thai embassy web site and basically you decide between yourselves how to divide any money, property etc (maybe a prenup) and who has custody of any children, and go to a prearranged appointment to the embassy with the relevent documents and two witnesses. No solicitors are involved and as far as I have been told (by a thai friend going through this at the moment) there are no lengthly delays. It can all be sorted in a few weeks but it does need agreement between both parties.

  6. I started getting advertising messages every few minutes straight to my phones display shortly after I started using a new one2call sim. When I looked in the connectivity section of my phones' set up I found a new section called 'AIS Service'. I went into this new section and was able to turn it off, and now no more adverts. AIS must have downloaded a new program into my phone, without my knowledge, when I first started using the sim card. Naughty, but at least I could turn it off.

  7. Hi,

My friend has a problem with his computer so we are looking for someone to come to his house to fix it. I've done a search and found someone who posted about this before but it was so long ago I don't know whether I'll get an answer to the email I sent him. Instead of just waiting around I was wondering if anyone knows someone they can recommend. The problem seems to be that when windows is opening all the colours are out of order or mixed up. We neither have any idea what the problem can be so we'd much rather have a qualified person take a look. I know there are people who do computer repairs at home, just need a number. Thanks. :o:D

Is it a standard crt monitor or an LCD monitor? and if its a crt type are there like patches of colour over the screen?

  8. Might be OK to use two passports coming in and out of Thailand but when you leave thailand on 'passport one' where will you go to because you will be wanting to enter that country on 'passport one' and leave on 'passport two', with no entry stamp for that country in 'passport two'. That would be a problem.

As said, landcrossings is a different story from arrival by air.

You leave Thailand on the same p/port as you had entered and arrive in another country by air showing the second p/port. Flying back to Thailand you thn can use the second one.

Still the computer might pick up the first one and show your previous stay. I said 'might'.

Thats OK first time round but the second time you would be leaving on the second passport and arriving on the first one, only the first passport will have an exit stamp dated some three months earlier. That would show a long, long flight.

No, that would be ok, it shows that you return after 3 months.

OK, if you say so, but I wouldn't want to land somewhere on a flight from Thailand with a passport showing a Thai exit stamp that is three months old and nothing in the passport since then.

  10. hi there, i have a german and a us passport and am wondering, can i enter the country on one passport, do my 90 days, leave the country and then re-enter with my other passport and get another 90 days? so I could stay 6 months, rather than just 90 days within any 180 day period?

    do they check exist/entry stamps?

    please help...

    thanks

  11. So what advantages/priveliges come with a diplomatic passport?

I know a Thai monk in the UK who has a diplomatic passport. He said it meant he could travel anywhere without the need for visa's and going through customs was quick and problem free but the thai government would know exactly where he was because every time he entered/left a country the thai government were informed. If this is true I would think they would be happy to let Taksin keep his diplomatic passport because it would mean they would get regular updates on his movements.

  12. My box finally arrived here on friday in good condition without any damage.I had wanted to send my PC,monitor, printer, etc, my CD/DVD collection and some personal items over here. When I checked in the UK large coumpanies such as DHL wanted far too much so I used a local company (TS International) in the west midlands. However small your parcel is they charge for a minimum size of one cubic meter. They will send that to Bangkok port by container ship for about £150, or by air for about £180.Ship takes three weeks and air takes two days.Mine came by ship. They arranged for an agent to organise things in bangkok. When it arrives here you have to pay customs clearance (mine was 6500 baht), import duty and VAT (2500 baht) and transport costs (2500 baht). So about £300+ altogether. If you could arrange things yourself in Bangkok without using an agent you could save some but I think it would be difficult to do.Hope this helps.

That seems very expensive, would this be the same sending a parcel through parcel force do you think? I'm sending 2 record decks which if there going to cost me £450 I might as well buy brand new ones! Is there anyone here that can help me with this, as I didn't think it'd cost me this much to send!

    Thanks

1, The box was one cubic meter in size so you could get both decks in together, a smaller box would have cost the same as the bigger one did so I just filled it up with other things.

2, Over half my costs were in Thailand at customs etc. I would think that would be the same however you sent it.

3, A friend of mine works for the post office in the UK and when she checked for me Parcel Force would have been much more expensive than that.

  13. I've been using skype since I moved here from the UK in February. It's great, being able to talk to friends and family with PC's for free (video calling as well). I can also call people in the UK without a PC for 1.5p per minute. I also pay for a local Birmingham phone number so people can phone me from there for the price of a local call. It's great being able to see the family (especially the grandkids) as well as talking to them. I wouldn't be without it now.

  15. I have just installed Skype and I am having problems with my microphone. During the test call my playback is very low in volume. When I call others they complain that my volume is low. Is there a way you can turn up the microphone volume? I have used two different brand new mics, one a desktop stand and the other a headphone style. Any ideas on how to overcome the problem I am getting? I am running Win XP home.

I have the same problem, I have tried everything, but my spoken volume is useless. I even tried uninstall/install. It is a pity because I used to use Skype for all overseas calls.

The only idea I have is; that before my XP was genuine and now in this new computer (bought in LOS) it is not: so maybe Skype won't work on XP copy.

    Otherwise, any suggestions appreciated.

I've got friends in the UK using skype on PC's with copied versions of XP without problems

  16. Might I suggest the new Beta 3 which is not yet visible on the net but you can get it here

It is worth it and a big change!

Just instlled beta 3 but lost all incoming video, although outgoing video was ok.Reverted to the previous version and the inconing video returned.
