Thanks Neilly - just what I was looking for !

I went for my usual late swim off the most popular part of Lamai beach at about 6pm yesterday - there were no warnings - noticed about a half a dozen jet skis packing up for the day only about 50mtrs from where I jumped into the water, but nothing was said to me.
There have been a lot of reports of jelly fish past few months, so I have been very watchful both in and out (along the shoreline) of the water for any, but yesterday did not see anything.
Dodged a bullet for sure ...

It WAS a brilliant beach back in 1978 when I first went there ... those were the days ... anybody remember I think it was 'Johnnies' (or was is Sam's or Somjai's) restaurant right on the beach ? ... fun times
Used to take almost a full day to get there from Patong - you had to go into Phuket town first, then a very bumpy ride

Here in the middle of Lamai it's been playing-up all week ... now, since yesterday arvo, completely dead.
Have reported to TOT
Anyone else having probs ?
-
all i miss about australia is the 65 cent homebrand meat pies and optus 2 dollars for 500 mb phone plan.
last Nov when i was in Oz a 'dog's eye' now sets you back $5 or over
(extra for 'dead horse' of course)
cappicuno with 2 slices of raisin toast $10 at the airports ... sushi was cheaper

apparently other cable TV suppliers (ChiangMai) are having reception probs with Australia+ as well and it's unwatchable atm ... hope all 'fix' the bug soon ...
(then again, it maybe we have to wait until a change of Gov't in Oz as well !)

I went to Samui Cable in Lamai yesterday ... they said they are updating the 'software' for Australia Plus - maybe 1-2 weeks ... so who knows ?
At least I got an answer from them (the girl on the desk and two 'engineers' haha (techinicians))
Oh, and I stuffed up with that emailing to [email protected] - they are just the supplier of that channel to Samui Cable ... again at least they did reply to point this out to me
-
I know how you feel crusty ...
(I'm a NRL fan and they dropped it from AustraliaNetwork years ago ... lucky you get/got most of the 2014 AFL mate)
you can actually contact Samui Cable by email. Maybe if enough of us request for it, they will put it back on again ... however, I'm not expecting any response real soon (like never) but maybe, just maybe, a better option than talking to their thai staff directly about it !
-
thanks again rbkk ...
(I haven't used that rip-off Truevisions for years now ...)
-
tks guys ...
Just heard they are still getting it in Pattaya on their Thipmanee cable.
agree Crusty, one of Samui Cables best channels imo ... it was replaced with EuroNews
(I have the Samui Cable HD box)
what does Samui Cable say ? ... well as usual, not much !

Thanks for letting me know Don Mega, muchly appreciated !
... that means it's just Samui Cable here that isn't showing it
(been replaced by a EuroNews channel)

is Australia Plus still being shown in Thailand ?
I noticed it on the True Platinum list, but here on Samui it's gone from Samui Cable ... anybody still getting it 'live' ?
(ie: not thru the Australia Plus website which only shows a few replayed programs on the 'watch now' feature)

slightly off-topic
is Australia Plus still being shown in Thailand ?
I noticed it on the Platinum list posted above by ocean268, but here in Samui it's gone from Samui Cable ...

have heard this before as well (can't remember if only in Thai and/or Bali as well) ... they say it means love is coming - if the snake bites you in the dream it's supposed to mean true love ...
just saying, thats what I've been told a few times
-
thanks very much for posting this early - it's hard to find sometimes !

'brass monkey' is an interesting term ... has nothing to do with animal 'monkeys' actually

I was lucky, it was 1980 and in transit for one night between Colombo and Jakarta, I slept at Mandarin Oriental htl, but company was paying and I shared room with my collegue, but I remember we went to PatPong which was a dark empty road with 3 bars and few girls, and DonMueng a.p. was the first little one with no airconditioning......
But still a bful remember.....
You didn't go to Patpong then, because it was buzzing with bars, neon, girls at that time.
Exactly correct, Patpong was definitely 'happening' back then ...

June or July 1977 the Atlanta Hotel ... think it was something like 120bht/nite (maybe less) ... some sort of coup/military rule on then too ... I remember a curfew was on between either 12-1pm till 5-6am - not allowed on the streets between those times.
Pretty sure the police raided the Atlanta then too while I was there (it was common in those days)
Later on Miami, Crown Sukhumvit 25 or something and a few other dicey joints ... oh yeah stayed at the Golden Palace Soi 1 a cpule of times
Grace Hotel coffee shop was all the 'go' then as was the Thermae (downstairs under the Barber shop) - was run/owned by the Police - had to enter thru the rear toilets late at nite
-
was only a matter of time ... the speed that these Cement trucks travel at around the island has been noticed/reported for a very long time ...

IF it's just cement render cracking, then simply by using PVA (poly vinyl adhesive) in the render mix stops any cracking ... it's easy to find and relatively cheap ... I used it on 7 Villas and almost no render cracks at all (ie: except the render where I think the labourers 'forgot' to add the PVA I'm guessing)
-
great news, I'm sure the local authorities have planned well in advance for enough future water and electricity supplies to cope with a much needed huge mall, another 100 rooms hotel and Villas probably with private pools ...

au contraire
i was once treated to the same abuse on second road on the right side almost opposite soi 7
outside a massage shop, i parked nicely and was told to move by a person that came out the shop
i told her that it was the kings highway and i was allowed to park there
she said this is mafia shop
i said never mind
she said maybe you have problem with car
i took her picture and i said maybe you have problem with shop window at 4 in morning
i took some pictures of the car and left the on board cameras running and pointed to the shop front
when i returned an hour later all was well
she stayed in the shop scowling and flipped me the bird as i left
i laughed
(btw i understand Thai ways and know any Thai who says mafia is a moron)
I admire your "pluck". alt=clap2.gif pagespeed_url_hash=892957568 width=31 height=25>
You must have "big balls".
Agreed !!!
Did something change with mosquito situation ?

I use a spray called 'After Bite' - it's a herbal spray made in Samui actually - works better than Tiger balm or anything else for me.
I get it from one of the local Pharmecy's here - here is the phone number of the producer 077-420535 (Palanda Group) - no website or email mentioned on the bottle
