  1. I'm surprised that none of the the cops are pointing to that in the photo-op. Maybe thumbs up beats that.
  2. Hitachi is good. They sold off the power tool business to Koki Holdings, a Japanese firm. They are now sold as Metabo HPT (was Hitachi Power Tools). I guess they also bought the German firm, Metabo.
  3. A reciprocating saw is a type of machine-powered saw in which the cutting action is achieved through a push-and-pull ("reciprocating") motion of the blade. The name Sawzall is often used and is an example of a generic trademark. This name is from Milwaukee Electric Tool, who first produced a tool of this type in 1951, and in the United States, it is ubiquitously, colloquially applied to tools of this type. Milwaukee, Bosch, Hilti, Metabo and Makita are worth investigating.
  4. Here's another article you can read without signing up. New requirements are insane. What are they trying to do, drive out all the old ones and buy up their property cheap? https://www.imidaily.com/asia-pacific/new-mm2h-rules-will-drive-mass-exodus-of-foreigners-thats-intentional-say-observers/
  5. Who needs shade if you're in a Benz with dark window tint and a good aircon system? As a degreed horticulturist and amateur gardener for over 40 years, I cringe at seeing many Thai gardens and landscaping. They don't seem to work with nature and assist it, they seem to like to hack it up and make tacky displays. The English and French and others certainly had some flashy gardens, but I like the understated ones that change with the seasons. And, of course, Japanese gardens.
  6. Novavax seems promising. And it's a more traditional protein-subunit approach, not mRNA or another fancy new technology.
  7. From wood-database.com: Burmese Rosewood is one of the lesser-known rosewoods, though it’s a well-known tonewood within its natural range. The wood is used for the bars of the ranad ek, a traditional Thai xylophone.
  8. Where I'm at in the U.S., there would be "leftover" jabs because people missed appointments. Many got shots because they were able to respond on short notice and get a shot at the end of the day.
  9. Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida are looking even worse as far as number of cases/100,000 people for a 7 day average. Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi don't look good from a death rate point of view currently.
  10. My ancestors were mostly German, so of course I opted for the Pfizer-BioNtech. Now for flu shots, the bit of Irish in me prefers Bushmills single malt. ... Actually, here in the US, I don't recall if I knew what it was going to be, but it was Pfizer. My wife got Moderna at a different place. Vaccine du jour.
  11. They might want to approach Novavax. Seems like good stuff. Vaccine maker Novavax announced Thursday it has asked regulators in India, Indonesia and the Philippines to allow emergency use of its COVID-19 vaccine -- offering its shot to some low-income countries before rich ones with ample supplies. https://apnews.com/article/business-science-health-india-coronavirus-pandemic-c2545a2b725b34093a54795bcc0d2e6e
  12. Not from many videos I've seen. In one, a car in the right lane and a bike in the left lane were stopped at a red light. Another car in the right lane approached rapidly and rather then hitting the car, it swerved into the left lane and flattened the bike rider. Much less damage to the two cars that way. Many times in Thailand, it's the bike riders who aren't looking out for cars or their fellow motorcyclists. I went over the handlebars once due to 2 youths on an old Honda Wave running a t-intersection directly in front of me. Lucky for them I wasn't in a car or truck. I think a Honda Trail CT125 would be fun to scurry around on. Pricey - 50% more then a Wave 125. But it has a nice cargo rack and looks rugged enough to hop curbs and deal with potholes.
  13. I've only met one member. We came in the same Peace Corps group 44 years ago and were in the same language training class for many weeks.
  14. Probably just enough to hire accountants to disappear all the other money. Cost of doing monkey business.
  15. HappiVax - Get Covid but you'll never know the difference. And sales of snack foods will generate billions.
  16. Just give up tourism $$ until you get your people fully vax'd. One shot doesn't do it. Even two... of some.
  17. They already sold all the body parts of the former animals at the zoo to the Chinese. Just repurposing the building.
  18. My wife and I have been through a lot over the last 43 years. Moved back to the US in 1980. She had to learn English, pretty much from scratch. Had 2 wonderful boys (one of them killed in Iraq years later) that slept in her room for quite awhile. Sex? What's that. Post-partum depression and psychotic behavior? Par for the course. Younger boy had some development issues for a number of years. Life together can be tough and we are fortunate that money or infidelity was never an issue. I can't advise others how to deal with issues other than take them as they come. Look for opportunities to get back on the same team. Lately, my wife and I get along best when we are bitching about Prayut and the current regime, LOL. Do try and make friends with locals. We have some mixed couples here in the U.S. and it's nice to get together and joke around. One Thai gal ~ 20 years my junior that I watch the house for and babysit their dogs and kids has started to jokingly flirt with me. But we do it in front of all the friends and my wife and it's fun. No one takes an old fart seriously.
  19. I can see it now - more bug spray! Mealybugs, if the name is applied correctly, are a pain. https://idtools.org/id/citrus/pests/factsheet.php?name=Coffee mealybug
  20. From Wiki: The ministry is responsible for appointing the 76 governors of the Provinces of Thailand. The Minister of Interior (Thai: รัฐมนตรีกระทรวงมหาดไทย) is the head of the ministry. He is appointed by the King of Thailand on the recommendation of the prime minister. Since 30 August 2014, the head of the ministry has been retired General Anupong Paochinda. Anupong was Commander-in-Chief of the Army just before Prayut. And he was a member of the group that staged the 2006 Thai coup d'état. He was appointed Interior Minister after the 2014 coup. Suthipong Juljarern, director-general of the Department of Community Development (DoCD), has just been promoted to Interior Permanent Secretary and there has been a bit of Governor shuffling. In the record of assets Mr Suthipong and his wife, Wandee Khunchornyakong Juljarern, declared to the NACC, they own 10.2 billion baht worth of assets between them with no debt. Busy boys.
