I got a killer deal in BananaIT there today.

Was shopping for a combined Christmas/birthday gift for one of my kids, a Samsung J7 Prime smart phone.

List price at all the shops I checked; 9900 baht but an option for a special Sim card and it will cost 7700 baht but then this Sim will cost 6xx baht per month for a mandatory 3 month subscription.

I said no thanks on the Sim and put 10K baht on the table.

She gave me 600 baht back and told me, opening promotion and then she started putting small boxes next to the phone as follows:

She gave me a 10.000mAh battery bank, a mini speaker and of all things; a selfie stick to fit the phone on, a 32GB mini sd card (she fitted it in the phone for me) and a plastic cup/glass, she said good when drinking beer, ha-ha.

So instead of one gift I ended up with 4 for my teenage kid, so a good day of shopping for me, I am keeping the beer cup, LOL.

You were ready to buy 9000 an old phone that costs 7000+ anywhere else ?

We do not have the same concept of shopping...

funny that as I bought my wife a Samsung J7 smartphone in the shopping mall in central festival

pattaya they were advertised at 7900 baht in power buy but we went to the "Numchai" Samsung shop and got all the extra's plus we were assured the memory was 48GB

I have spoken to two friends who also got exactly the same deal for the same price ?  7900 baht.

It seems that you do not understand the concept of RAM and storage space ?

Of course no phone has 48gb of RAM but 8gb, and 48gb is the free micro sd card that they offer.

Anyway this phone is old and has reached end of life. It is also of course cheaper on Lazada.

The whole place was far too noisy for me with the loud piped music & the shrills of the ladies flogging whatever outside every second shop. I really was happy to leave but respect everyone's alternative opinion.

Just expressing my point of view about the place, couldn't get out quick enough.

You just landed ? All malls are noisy, and especailly during opening.

Nothing special about this mall, not even the food court that has 10% of what is available at Central, but it looks nice inside and BigC has now improved since Central bought it and will upgrade all bigcs to bigxtra (or at least offer more imported food).

I have had both working for me and some women were young in the beginning and worked until their 40s. I had no problem with either one. However, of course the longer they worked, the better they were at their jobs.

I will say that I tried to avoid men as much possible, although I did hire one who was married to one of the girls and he was excellent. My first employee was a young pretty boy and he was very unreliable That put me off hiring men.

I also do nit hire men except to handle heavy parcels, etc...

Women are more reliable and better for everything in this country, just look at how mothers teach their stupid boys and you understand why girls are better.

Congratulations to be able to keep staff for so long, but I guess that most of them were not as reliable as the ones who worked until their 40s ?

Like another poster said, imho Nam Talay is the best value for money if you don't mind living in Na Jomtien.

Although I thought the condos there cost 1.5M (probably the prices dropped, last time I went there to check was almost a year ago).

    Any exact location ?

    Thanks.

  6. Not some millions but 500 millions, and it will last only few years before the beach disappears again.

Only solution is to build something in the sear to protect the beaches but they needed someone smart to think about it and I was not asked anything :-)

    Oh well!

I had a much closer look at it tonight. In fact, I ate there.

Upon closer examination, it's not quite as wonderful as my first impression, but still clearly the best in town for a budget priced food court.

The criteria I use are offering some foods not normally found in local budget food courts, and also that with the more typical foods, better quality.

A highlight for me right away was the Lanna food stall. Not only varieities of Khao soi but also a complete Lanna set offer, and an unusual (for Pattaya) Lanna spicy pork with rice noodles. I had the latter. It was excellent and only 50 baht.

Wanting some more food, I did find it wasn't that easy to find something that looked that great to me. As this mall is a schlep for me coming from Jomtien, I want something more special there. I settled on the Chinese food stall with roast duck. Full plate for 160 baht. It was quite a bit better (I think) than the chain roast duck stall at Central Pattaya beach (same chain other places). Especially the side sauce offerings.

There are some higher price stalls there with Japanese and Korean, for example.

My other feeling upon closer impression is that the food court isn't big enough. Wishing there were about 50 percent more stalls, with wider, more unusual choices. Of course there is that other new fabulous building there with lots of casual food offerings there as well. Wouldn't exactly call that a food court though. Kind of a hybrid concept.

Not better than Central food court of course.

And no Vietnamese food there, again !

Yes it is random. Sometimes the stop it sometimes not. Same in Europe when comes out of EU.

But I saw in TV that the Canadians are unflexible. They check by x-ray each letter and package. Or they collect duties and vat or they catch drugs, plants or even living animals.

    Then police goes catch them.

Here better to avoid cause they need money and will check more and more. Specialy a bottle of wine can be a big cost and trouble.

But Tops, VM, Max V, specialy V.M. at Prompong Sukhumvit has everithing

Canada checks what they can just like any other country. Stop watching TV :-)

I send hundreds parcels yearly and never had one caught by the slaves.

But for sure delivery is slow because slaves are slow to work it seems.

So if a 35+ woman is smart enough to understand and accept that she cannot get more salary than a 25+ for a job that she does not know and for which she has no experience, would she be a better choice ?

    In my opinion yes.

Also, don't you think that choosing a woman who is too old to have kids and leave her job for this reason is a good idea ? People with kids always have problems and too many reason to take day off, which I do not appreciate.

Hi, I am not sure that you will find an old Thai woman who can accept that she knows nothing.

In this country the older they are the smarter they think they are ! Just look at the English teachers who still cannot speak English at 60 years old and think that they are the king of their school !

It's such a shame its not a BigC extra, much better offerings from them.

It there actually 2 buildings? Looks like children's playground on one photo?

We were in a hurry today and didn't really had time to take it all in, but we will be back soon.

They have some of the bigC extra food, especially the best frozen dishes found in Thailand that are of course from France, and I guess that they will offer more imported food soon.

All bigC will end being BigC extra, but we need more farangs everywhere in Thailand to get more good imported food which is hopefully not shit UK and US food...

Checking it out more. It's the hot Bangkok style mall in town for sure! The food court to the side is definitely best in town. More restaurants will be opening including another brand of Korean fried chicken that isn't Bonchon and also a huge Sichuan restaurant. Was hoping for gourmet dim sum and maybe better Mexican. Oh well.

Food court best ? And why ? I haven't seen anything interesting !

Thai people are unaware that second hand cars are so very much cheaper in Europe and USA. I showed my Thai GF some second hand Mercs on Autotrader (UK), after seeing some for sale locally, and used a calculator to show the price in Thai baht and she thought I was kidding her!

On the plus side, some new cars, especially if manufactured locally can be cheaper compared to Europe; the finance can be cheap also, I cannot believe my GF drove off with a brand new Isuzu pickup for a tiny  B250 deposit!

Unless it is something special I would avoid used cars.

What kind of guy shows Merc to his GF and let her drive an Isuzu ???
