  1. Actually, it just might work thinking about it. Along with most other things, what works or doesn't work in the rest of the world usually does the exact opposite in Thailand. Have a read of this Owl, a barrel pump may be the way to go. Air driven, you'll may need to buy a compressor but they're cheap enough to pick up. Might even know someone with a diesel driven air compressor do you? https://www.michael-smith-engineers.co.uk/resources/useful-info/useful-info-barrel-pumps
  2. The weight of the water is measured in pounds per square inch. The maximum pressure you can apply to the dip pipe is the cross sectional area of the dip pipe. The only way to increase the pressure so that the bigger pipe has a higher pressure than the dip pipe is to lower it below the dip pipe, and create a syphon. Just because the water in the bigger pipe weighs more don't mean that the pressure increases, the pressure will remain the same what ever size pipe you use. Think of it another way. If you had a vertical pipe, 24" in diameter, 7 meters high and filled with water that would create a certain pressure at the base of the pipe, measured in pounds per square inch. Let's say it would be 10 psi. If the 24" pipe had a reducer fitted at the bottom of it to a 1/2" diameter pipe the pressure would remain the same, 10psi. What about power up at the farm Owl?
  3. You do realise you're re-writing all we know about physics don't you Owl and that the weight of the water is governed by your 1/2" dip pipe. If you were to lower the larger pipe below the water tank it would then become a simple syphon mechanism, I expect you know this though anyway.???? So, you will be able to move the water with your design, but you'll only be able to move it to a position lower than what it already is. I don't suppose you have a small compressor at the farm or electric?
  4. Far be it for me to p--- on your chips Owl, so I won't.???? Love the enthusiasm though.
  5. The docs are way too quick to get you on the PPI's. They did it to me and made me worse as it was low stomach acid that was my problem which they exacerbated by prescribing PPI's. Symptoms of low stomach acid can mirror GERD/GORD. What happens is due to you not having sufficient acid, the transit of the food is slowed and to put it simply rots in the gut and any gas/acid only has one way to go which is upwards. I think it's generally accepted that as we age our ability to produce the acid required to service the gut properly is reduced, hence low stomach acid or hypochlorydria. I'm not saying you suffer from this by the way but advise you to check it out as if you're on PPI's or H2 Blockers i'd consider that akin to chucking petrol on a fire if indeed you did suffer from LSA.
  6. I would pick up a box or two of Kleenex whilst you're in Ban Dung Owl.???? Good luck anyhow.
  7. Poor little <deleted>, what's he done wrong?
  8. With all these old sayings there can be different points of view on how they actually came about. The guide on the Victory reckoned, rightly or wrongly that the devil was a joint around the ships hull. If the ship started leaking, some poor <deleted> had to go over the side and caulk the joint, hence he was caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. It's a lovely story, whether it's true or not, I wouldn't know.
  9. Yes, quite a few sayings come from the old seafarers. The guide on HMS Nelson describes quite a few although the only one I can remember now is getting caught between the "Devil and the deep blue sea".
  10. I've been aboard HMS Victory a couple of times now, once as a tourist and once on the lash at a retirement do for a serviceman. They reckon over time every bit of timber on her has been replaced, so begs the question, is it the same ship. Bit like triggers broom.????
  11. OK, they both had tags on them but I only got a pic of one tag, thought I'd done both of them but evidently not. Good Old English Oak Trees if i'm not mistaken.
  12. Our games off Owl, mainly due to the Sunderland players on International duty though I think we have one as well.
  13. Ultimately it's always the blades that fail. We have a few large trees on a local green so I'll be having a closer look for the tags. I'd never noticed the tag on the Euca/Silver Birch until the missus had called it a Euca and I had a closer look.
  14. Yes, sorry about that, I tried to upload straight from my photos and it didn't work so I took a few screenshots and that did, it's a dark art this internet stuff isn't it.
  15. Went out for a walk this afts with the wife. We got into a debate about a tree, which was testament to the influence this thread has on you. I wouldn't have even entered into a conversation about a tree previously as I don't know anything about them. As we walked past this particular tree, the missus pipes up that it's a eucalyptus tree. I respond with, "no it isn't, it's a silver birch". I shouldn't have really because I don't have a clue what it is. A1E43D94-68A6-46B3-9847-83A189EB166B.heic She tells me this tree is very popular in Thailand and the government encourages people to plant them for furniture and building materials. I tell her "It's a Silver Birch <deleted>."3D00B9FB-0DCF-40F1-AC1F-A13908AB6581.heic As we was returning home I thought I'd get a couple of pics as I'm sure we're probably both wrong about the type of tree but I know how I can find out. A4C43D81-981E-4C9B-AAD4-1E1B73D24BF7.heic I thought I'd get a close up pic when I noticed it has what looks to be an identification disc stapled to the trunk. AF96FAF8-7A35-4DB5-9867-070AEF67976E.heic So, it's over to the experts.
  16. Swan, Layne and you can add Tony Kay to make up the trio, didn't belong to our finest hour Owl, brought shame on the club. Peter Swan died in January aged 84. We're doing well at the moment, top of the league last time I looked, not sure if there's been any league games this week, most games are the Carabao Cup which you'll know is Thai sponsored. Keep up with the footy comments, they seem to be working on TBL like garlic on a vampire. If he does surface, maybe we could try the stake through the heart. I must admit to being somewhat disappointed, frustrated, confused etc with your recent posts Owl. Surely i'm not the only one craving updates on the "Hat Lady" and your "D in L's" latest escapades. What news?????
  17. Just thought, what about digging down to the well and installing a series of tanks and pumps at different levels, then pumping from the well into tank 1 which is at 2mt level then from tank 1 into tank 2 at the 4mt level then from tank 2 into tank 3 at 6 mt level and on and on? Or maybe just buy a bigger pump?
  18. No mate, he'd need 8.54 psi at the pump discharge just to raise the water to that height, any additional pressure would be on top of the 8.54 psi would be over and above the 8.54, the 15 psi was just a guess on my part.
  19. Nearly forgot, Up The Owls and FTB. We're off to a flyer but we can't get too confident as pride goes afore a fall doesn't it. Pigs got stuffed at WBA tonight so all is well back home in Sheffield, going to have to have a trip up there sooner or later.
  20. So looking at the table and your pump set up, for the 2 metres the pump discharge needs to apply 2.85 psi to get the water up there and that just gets the water there, you want to get it flowing in sufficient volume so you need more pressure. The 6 meter height you need 8.54 psi from the pump just to raise the water up to that head. What's the discharge pressure of the pump? Around 15 psi?
  21. All to do with head pressure Owl but I'm sure you know this anyway. Imagine a vertical pipe full of water which is a metre high. Put a pressure gauge onto the bottom of the pipe what reading do you have? Now extend the pipe by 19 metres and fill with water and look at the gauge again. The pressure will have increase because of the weight of the water. So, conversely, if you wish to pump water up to a certain height, the pump needs to be man enough to do the job, i.e. lift the weight of the water to a different level. https://www.pumpfundamentals.com/what is head.htm
