  1. I'm glad that RTP is doing this in many other countries nowhere to report and the police doesn't want to deal with it (see USA) Luckily all listed scams listed are avoidable with some common sense, it seems that more serious IT crime such as ATM skimming, QR code manipulation, SIM cloning, hacking into banking or payment processing systems, fake websites for phishing banking info, SWAT-ting is still not an issue in Thailand.
  2. I spent quite a bit of time in the army and I strongly believe that hazing and bullying simply destroys the morale and cohesiveness of any military unit. When hazing becomes extreme recruits or solders will hate their own comrades or officers more then the enemy and you have a huge problem. This is happening right now in Ukraine where apparently Russian soldiers sometimes kill their own commanding officers due to lack of morale. You need swift and severe punishment of those involved otherwise like cancer it will destroy the navy.
  3. Actually it should be more like "chaat" ชาวต่างชาติ.
  4. You could try buying a bigger t-shirt instore and ask the tailor to fit it, for me fitting a dress shirt was 100THB in BKK.
  5. Not only Thailand other countries/states have their strange laws regarding sales and consumption of alcohol. Sales - Beer: 24 hours, Wine & spirits: 8 a.m. – midnight (Mon–Sat) Noon – 9 p.m. (Sun). Off-premises sale of wine and spirits is only at liquor stores, and beer is not sold at liquor stores; it must be sold at supermarkets and convenience stores. Some counties may retain the Sunday morning beer prohibition which the state discontinued as of July 30, 2006. There are twelve dry towns, mostly in the western region of the state. Many counties have more restrictive off-premises hours, such as bans on beer sales overnight (hours vary). All liquor stores must be owned by a single owner, who owns that store and lives within a certain distance of it—effectively banning chain liquor stores from the state. New York City law does not allow open containers of alcohol in public. Can't drink in any city park unless inside of a restaurant. Distilled spirits may not be sold within 200 feet of a school, church, synagogue or other place of worship.
  6. A privilege to downgrade the PE visa, "B" visa has shorter validity, requires reentry permit, no access to passport check priority lane. etc.
  7. If someone is a native English speaker and doesn't know what fornication is maybe it's time to invest in a dictionary.
  8. Very nice looking Dutch oven bread, my wife is keeping some sourdough starter and she makes very good sourdough bread and scones. Agree it's not easy to find good bread especially for Europeans (We do not consider Wonderbread and similar products as bread).
  9. Appears that the new system works in a similar fashion as the old. In December I submitted the 90-day-report and it was Approved. In February I extended my stay permit for one year. On March 1, I submitted the 90-day-report and it was Rejected.
  10. Yea, you should see a specialist it can be arthritis and it can vary, for example some gouty arthritis can be treated by lifestyle changes. As well it can be something else related to overuse like carpal tunnel syndrome or tendonitis or it could be an overstretch injury. So please see a doctor have an x-ray and blood test for uric acid and you will know better what's going on. I had some colleagues with similar symptoms and it was linked to keyboard overuse.
  11. The reality is that most major western countries have or implementing similar systems. USA - The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is an automated system that determines the eligibility of visitors to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program ESTA was mandated by the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007 for travelers. EU - The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) was proposed by the European Commission in April 2016 and approved in November 2016 and will be mandatory from 2023. Australia - All passengers arriving by air into Australia should complete a Digital Passenger Declaration. You can start your DPD seven days before your flight and submit it within 72 hours prior to your departure for Australia. How a similar system in this country will affect tourism is a good question, how secure this system is even a better question.
  12. Actually the worst is the US dollar same size and almost the same color.
  13. Still remember a late night sketch about collecting signatures to eliminate "women's suffrage" and yes they received lot's of signatures.
  14. You are right. Some people simply don't understand the difference between social and socialist. Social policies are concerned with the ways countries around the world meet human needs for security, education, work, health and wellbeing. Some countries arguably have better social policies liked Scandinavian countries and some have weaker social policies like the US or SEA countries. Socialist countries are characterized by social ownership and with no or limited private ownership. Western (capitalist) countries can't be socialist at the same time because capitalism is based on private ownership, however capitalist countries can have wide ranging social institutions and policies in place.
  15. Registered and applied on 09 Dec, Bangkok, Approved on 14 Dec (3rd business day) EU passport.
  16. We moved to Thailand from the US 2 1/2 years ago we took some nice furniture (sofa, dining set etc. Crate and Barrel, West Elm) with us that would be expensive here. We sold all our rugs (hand made) as no use for them here. Took all kitchen stuff. Good quality bedding is still expensive here so take if you have or even buy more. Bicycles (Pinarello) . Electronics US uses different voltage so no electronics were taken. Top of the line TV or fridge is around 40000-50000THB. From the US it took 8 weeks to get our stuff so I would not be sitting for 8 weeks without my fridge. Used US-Thai registered company they were very efficient, no customs no hassle. Paid around 2000USD.
  17. 4 billion tourists - the population of the Earth is only 7.7 billion....hmmm
  18. I have worked in statistics for 20 years. so I was compelled to look into the survey methodology: The survey result is based on user feedback from YouTrip a multi-currency mobile wallet for travelers. so 70% is actually low, why do you need a multi-currency mobile wallet if you don't travel. It's like going around asking people eating icecream that "Do you like icecream?" and you get a shocking result that over 90% of people like icecream.
  19. ============Quote I would be interested to know if the Elite visa is worth the money for someone intending to retire to Thailand and not travel too much? ============End Quote I got Elite 20 years although I could go on retirement too, however with ever changing requirements esp. health insurance I decided to limit stress and go the easy way. Regarding economies or price, it's like arguing what is better business class or economy class on a plane whatever suits your needs and budget that's the best option for you. Before Covid I really enjoyed to be greeted at the Passenger Boarding Bridge (PBB) and taken to and passing immigration in a very efficient manner.
  20. In any country for any question you will have a very similar result. Are you worried about drinking/immigrants/vaccination/economy/family/gas prices/alians/giant spiders/etc./etc? You will get a similar distribution.
  21. Income Groups in USD based on GNI per capita Lower-middle income 1,046 – 4,095 Upper-middle income 4,096 -12,695 High income > 12,695 Gross National Income (GNI) calculates the total income earned by a nation's people and businesses, including investment income, regardless of where it was earned. It also covers money received from abroad such as foreign investment and economic development aid. in 2020 Thailand has a per capita GNI of 7050USD ranked 77 among the world economies, so it's an upper-middle income country. For comparison China 10610USD, Malaysia 10581USD, Indonesia 3870USD, Philippines 3420USD, Vietnam 2660, Myanmar 1260USD
  22. Unfortunately public health officials all over the world and WHO has an extremely one dimensional thinking - save people from COVID only. It appears they never had a holistic look at the problem and realizing that extreme measures will lead to a slew of other physical and mental health problems and we will face suicides and reduced life expectancy, but hey they saved us from COVID. I understand that hindsight is 20/20 but why very large outdoor areas like parks or national parks had to be closed and shopping malls still open? The situation reminds me an old joke "Yes, the patient died, but the surgery was successful"
  23. Unfortunately this article based on false correlation or better say correlation does not imply causation. Icecream consumption is down and less foreign tourist maybe these are the ones that caused the drop in traffic related death?
