What are the good points ?
i can only come up with sex.
Well I suppose sex is the number one thing a man thinks about until the old fella gives up.
But the great food would be another, the cheap accommodation options, the weather, depending on what country your from, being able to pay your way out of traffic infringements if that’s required, being able to get long term visas that many shouldn’t have, wink, wink.being in a country that makes your old sorry ass feel like your 30 again, wink, wink younger girls, being able to start a new life with a new set of lies and stories to go with it to impress that no one can dispute, eye candy. Too name a few.

It depends on what is important to you. A Thai GF 23 years younger than me, where would I get that in Australia lacking the wallet of a millionaire?
I think the only things I miss are a decent eye fillet steak and a robust shiraz. I certainly don't miss the nanny state stuff, or shelling out a small fortune in council rates, electricity and car registration.
My TGF is 20 years younger than myself and the relationship is great. But I did say if I could afford to live back home at paradise point I think I would. If I could afford it,the electricity and rates would not be a problem.
As for the nanny state ? What actually are you referring too.
There becomes a time and age where I think that you start thinking with the big head rather than the little head. Especially regarding health and the availability of decent medical requirements. It’s all well and good if you can afford decent health cover when your say in your late 60s or early 70s but that’s really expensive. And too be honest the public health system here is a bit of a concern to me.Just starting to think a bit more into the future as I get a bit older that’s all.

Pros = Cost of living, can actually get some pussy, the weather,a bit more freedom.
Cons = Pollution,humidity,crazy Thai drivers,immigration regulations.Soi dogs.
I am living here because I needed a fresh start and to find a new younger partner.
Would I go home if I could lead the same lifestyle as I lead here. Not working,be with my partner I have now.
yes I think I would. The Gold Coast is a wonderful place to live if you can afford it.
Was coming here the right decision at that point in time for me,certainly was,got my life back on track and I am as happy now as I have ever been. But do miss home sometimes.

You can get yourself killed just as easy on a 125 wave or a Scoopy if you ride like an idiot. Two 14 year olds killed just across the road from my nephews school a week ago. Riding 2 up on a 125 with no helmets, yes kids being kids. But the thing is,they were 14,weren’t supposed to be riding a bike. Secondly the teachers at the school must have known these kids ride bikes to school and aren’t of legal age. Plus the parents must know their kids are riding these bikes with no license and are breaking the law. So it boils down to no law enforcement. So until the police force start enforcing the already implemented laws and actually fining and confiscating the bikes and cars of people with no license nothing will change. Making you get a medical certificate to say your fit to ride or drive does not come with a brain upgrade and common sense . Even a point or demerit system won’t work here if you can just slip the guy a few hundred baht to look the other way.
So basically it’s Thailand,it has its good points, and it has its bad. Love it or leave it.- 1

I find that excuse a bit lame because of the Vegetarian Festival. they would have been in quarantine would they not?
My thoughts exactly, but now it appears they weren’t even coming. Phuket is an island and they could control people coming and going. But that’s not as easy as it sounds either,as food and general supplies need to get there from BKK and surrounding areas. Do they let these drivers into the island and back out again. Plus I hear almost 80% of business in the tourist area closed. Then who would want to go there anyway with nothing to do. Maybe they need to organize more events there that will attract locals and people who are willing to travel that far. Music festivals, tattoo events, hot rod shows or whatever. But now the international tourist are not coming, the establishments will really need to adjust there prices to suit the Thai market. Cheaper hotel rates across the board, better and cheaper transportation options.
special rates on flights going to phuket to attract people , This will be the only option available to try and get the people living and trying to run business in and around Patong,Kata,Karon a chance untill a vaccine is found. -
Contracted genital herpes about 4 1/2 years ago while living in phuket of all places LOL.
My bad,had a few too many drinks and you can guess the rest.
Anyway the first time it appeared I thought it was a mosquito bite but a bit more swollen It went away after about 2 weeks. Anyway ended up in a full on relationship with another girl not long after that and never really thought anything about it. Still in that relationship now and things are going great. The next time it came back with a vengeance,I mean really swollen and a bit painful and needed to go hospital and get it checked out. Yep it was genital herpes, and yes my misses ended up getting too. My BAD but she is understanding about it and there are no issues in the relationship because of it.
So one good thing is we don’t have to worry about it anymore. I have a box of Valtrex 500 mg at home all the time, they cost about 1000 baht for 10 tablets. We have learnt to live with it as a couple. What I have learnt,at the first sign of it returning I take one tablet and it stops it in its tracks. Doesn’t even show up anymore. I would probably get that feeling about 2 to 3 times a year.
My misses copes with it the same way, there’s not much else we can do except try and control it.
Does it interfere with our lives,no. Does it affect our sex lives no. Just costs me 1000-2000 baht a year to control it.
would I rather not have it,yes. But I have and she has and life goes on.

They also need to plan ahead.
Make public transport available in and around,Patong,Karon,Kata, surin and into the old city. The system that currently operates this is way to expensive. If the government operated a decent modern air conditioned small bus operation that the tourist could use without getting scammed 300 baht for a 300 meter trip, this would go a long way to improving the cities reputation. Plus start putting some of the revenue earned from this back into the local area. Tourism is a huge part of the money making machine for areas like phuket,Pattaya, but when the money goes into the hands of people that don’t put that money back into making the area a better place you end up in the situation your in now. I remember going to Singapore for a holiday and the public transport was excellent, cheap and easy to get around. Even had double decker buses with an open top,you could take a tour of the city, hop on hop off type deal. They would have different routes you could take to view the local attractions. Plus the taxi system was fair if you decided to use that option. Phuket is a fantastic place to live and visit, but the scams and overpricing destroy the image of the island. That’s another reason I assume Thais avoid the area.

Pattaya,Phuket,Bangkok,Chiang Mai and many more tourist locations need the government to look really hard at the situation in hand and the road forward. This pandemic has proved that these places cannot survive without international tourists. Maybe it’s time for the government to take a good hard look at their policies towards retirement and other long term visa holders. Why not revisit the laws on retirement visas,Thailand is a beautiful country,so much to see and do. I see a lot of countries struggling with Covid and all are having the same issues as Thailand. Shops closed, house prices falling, governments throwing heaps of money at the situation with no real end in sight. Thailand needs to think outside of the so called box and look for other options,( many are needed ). But one could be making it easier for retired people or couples to live here. A lot could be done to allow this to happen.
Do away with the 90 day reporting, once the retirement visa is issued. Need only to report if your permanent address has changed. Increase the duration of the retirement visa to 5 years after 5 years of living here. Reduce the monthly income requirements to obtain that visa due to COVID affecting people’s retirement income. Do away with dual pricing and definitely bring in that residency card or use the pink Thai ID card to allow people that live here full time a way to get out of the dual pricing scam. I think many people from all parts of the globe will be struggling with the cost of living in their home countries, during and after this COVID pandemic. Many will be looking for a cheaper and better way of life with what they have left. Thailand should seize the opportunity and make it easier and welcome these people.
Most retirees just want to enjoy their remaining days, not all are interested in the girly bars and sitting in the bar all day pussy watching. (I did say not all). Thailand could become a destination that retirees want to come too if it was obtainable and more friendly towards them. It would not fix the situation but it would surely help having Many more like us renting, buying property, even spending that cash at Makro,Tesco, local markets and restaurants. We as retirees might not spend as much as tourists in a week or two,but we do spend every day, every week every month continuously year in year out. That is sustainable and helps the economy grow. The other thing Thai people don’t seem to understand, that we actually take nothing from Thailand. We don’t take jobs from them,we don’t put a strain on their social security system,we don’t come here to cause trouble. We come here to spend our retirement money and try to enjoy the life we have left.
The world has a huge ageing population, and Thailand should be taking advantage of this opportunity.
Anyway had my rant for the day, feel a bit better now.- 3

Never knew anything about it,and they want tourists to come. They need to do a bit better at advertising, maybe do special deals with hotels. But plan ahead and let people know about 2 to 4 weeks in advance. I am all for trying to help out phuket and the people living there. So get some more events planned and advertise it well ahead of time.

Also how about just enforcing the laws that already exist.
like riding a bike while not wearing a helmet.
Riding or driving without a license.
license cancellation for drink driving.
Stop issuing fines to drink drivers without loss of license.
Hopefully one day they will take road safety seriously and forget about the quick tea money involved. Thais just seem to accept that people die everyday needlessly on the roads. They seem to have the attitude as long as it’s not me I don’t care. There’s a young family live across the road from me,the young mans family are pretty well off. He smashed his BMW 2 times in one year due to being drunk,( still kept his license). Sold the BMW and bought a new Honda HRV,had all the mods done to it,3 months Later driving home drunk, hit a parked car. His misses had to go to the police station and pay 20,000 baht to get him out. He paid for the other cars repairs. But still driving and comes home drunk as a skunk at least once a week. Can’t even get the key in the front door, just walks around the house calling out to his misses to open the door. So as long as this behaviour continues, nothing will change.

If your going to put your foot in the crypto market, stay with Ether and Bitcoin until you become familiar with the market. Most people who lose money buy in high and panic sell when it drops in price. Don’t day trade, don’t send your crypto to anyone that’s promising you quick returns. If your going to invest in crypto, buy a ledger nano S. go to you tube and watch some videos on how to set it up and use it. Rex Kingsley is a good start. Some people believe in crypto, some don’t. Some like lady boys some dontLOL. Don’t invest more your money if you are going to need it in the next couple years. Good luck and enjoy the highs and lows.

Yes why not, don’t worry about the rest of the country that’s just getting back to some sort of normality. Like the street market vendor, the fresh fruit market sellers, the locals that cater to the locals. Let’s take the chance and hope we don’t have to shut all these places down and go back to a curfew like before. No planes flying, restricted movement between provinces.
Sounds like someone might have a certain type of business that’s going broke. Don’t get me wrong,I am all for opening up the borders and allowing tourists back in,but if there’s a chance that it could put thailand into a Melbourne situation again, definitely not. This virus came from China and crippled Thailand and is tourists industry, has china offered any compensation to places like phuket,Pattaya. I bet not. -

Keep squeaky clean and they've no reason to tap you up for tea money. My wife and I have been stopped on the bike dozens of times and no fines. I've always found the BiB to be polite as well.
Yes I agree, but when your riding in a group of say 10 to 20 Thais after leaving the intersection and you see the Thais just Cruze on thru the check point,You know once they spot you it’s a 95% chance they are going to pull you over. No problem as I have a Thai license, but just gets a bit frustrating. Mind you since Covid arrived I have noticed that there are very few checkpoints around at the moment. Less tourists means less tea money as they know the Thais are struggling with jobs and money. But it’s all part of living in the LOS.
-
The only frustrating thing about living here, immigration.
The other things like double pricing ++++,it’s my choice if I want to pay.
BUT it would be nice if the Thai government brought in a tier system for expats that have lived here incident free for 5 years or more.
Maybe like doing away with the 90 day reporting. Increasing the visa status to 2 years instead of yearly. Reducing the monthly required income To help with the strong baht, reviewed yearly.
But to be honest the only time I feel like I am being taken advantage off is when I see a traffic road block, and the double pricing for foreigners.I still feel like I live a better life here than I would in my home country.
But things could be a bit easier for long term expats that have done the right thing. Would I do it all again, yes I would but with some minor adjustments to the amount of money i invested here.
-
Well hopefully they will realise just how important the tourists are and stop all the scams. Thai prices and Falang prices for starters. But more than likely they will increase the prices and try an recoup their lost income. Mind you it is nice not to see all those tourist vans racing around like their in whacky races. No sympathy for the Tuk tuk mafia in Phuket either, one of the biggest rip offs on the island.

Advice needed, not getting any news feeds lately from TV. They are only showing up in my notifications.
Maybe I accidentally turned something on or off,but is a bit frustrating getting a notification then having to go search the TV page to find it. Normally just turned up on my FB page.
Any help world be appreciated.
cheers.

I lived in a beautiful condo on the hill overlooking kata. The water for the particular block of condos I lived in was brought in by truck every second day. So we paid a bit extra for that, but before you rock the boat enquire at the office about the price your paying.
Also check out your contract,it might be in there explaining the charges. -
Sounds like a lot of really really sexually frustrated men in here missing the bar girls LOL

Well just goes to show unless your in supervised quarantine there will always be some dick that will break the rules.
Thailand have done a great job in controlling the virus up to this point,no use harping on about it now. The next thing is to not allow it to happen again. Hopefully no one will come down with the virus and things here will remain open. But it does put a big question mark on opening up the borders to tourists, even limited numbers and wealthy people. The virus does not discriminate, rich, poor, celebity LOL,diplomat. We all breath, bleed and <deleted>. A lot of business have reopened, employed staff and are trying to make the most out of a bad situation. You can move freely around Thailand and enjoy what it has to offer, maybe a few are missing the bars and the ladies. The last thing Thailand needs right now is another shutdown, keep the borders closed to tourists. If people fall into the allowed returnees, please keep them in quarantine until the have been cleared. I think this going to last a lot longer than people think so,this might be the norm for awhile.
Does this impact me,yes it does. My wife has lost her part time job,her brother and his misses have lost their jobs and moved away from Phuket. The brother is coming up to CM to live with us and try and find work up here as he has no money. My wife and I are looking after his son now,his mother is out of work too. This also makes it hard for my misses and her brother to send money to their parents so they can buy food and pay for electricity and stuff. Looks like I might be helping out there very soon.
No sick buffaloes,I already checked. But the brother is confident he will get work,he will do anything to survive. Just needs a hand until things improve. If they get a second wave and have to close up shop again,it will be a lot worse than the first wave. So as far as I am concerned, stuff the tourists, stuff the sexpats they can wait. Let Thailand get back to some sort of normality, let people try and get employment in other areas.Anyway rant finished for the day.

It’s a catch 22 situation,what to do.
Open up to tourists and risk another outbreak,or keep the borders closed.
If an outbreak occurs and it spreads, all the schools, malls and local businesses that don’t rely on tourists will be shut down again. Back to a curfew, restricted travel between province’s. I agree that people married to thais that want or need to return should be allowed, but under the quarantine rules that are in place now. They seem to be working well, and it would be a shame to undo all the hard work.
Yes the tourist places like Phuket and Pattaya Would struggle, but at least the rest of the country is moving forward. I understand that many people working in the nightclub scene will still be out of work, but Thais are resilient and will find away to make a living.- 18

Thailand's "Ten Year Plan" to improve road safety has failed - instead of halving the death toll it's nearly doubled!
in Thailand News
Posted
The biggest factor contributing to the death toll here is lack of law enforcement.
Buy a few trucks, set up the road blocks and start pulling over bikes first. No license, bike in the back of the truck, issue the ticket to appear in court. No helmet, park the bike issue a ticket and walk home or get a helmet delivered or go buy one and get the bike back. Drink driving, confiscate the bike or car, cancel the license until court appearance. Have more highway patrol cars on the road actually pulling over dangerous drivers and according to the infringement, park up the car or issue a huge on the spot fine. A better system so the police have access to drivers history, that will determine the course of action taken at the point of being pulled over.
until that happens, things will not improve.
Can you imagine the change in attitude if they applied these simple adjustments, yes I know it’s Thailand.
