Completing work myself (extensions) - construction is allowed to continue, even in a full lockdown.

I was referring to builders at properties with labourers,if it’s your property and your doing it yourself,no one else will be there to spread the virus. You are already at home and don’t need to travel.Same as myself going into the garden to do some pruning or mow the grass or put the rubbish out.

  2. Well hopefully they will go ahead and pass the temporary visa extensions for tourists that are stuck here,by their choice or buy unfortunate circumstances.
Thought about many options they could put in place to ease the congestion at the immigration center.

    1. Enforce the use of visa agents to do the extensions, fee normally 300 baht. This would reduce the people at immigration and assist a local business.

2 The long stayers like retirement and marriage visas, should be given a waiver on their visas untill things get back to normal. The people that already hold these visas have more than likely been living here for a long time and all their details should be in the system.

    3. When they get the virus under control, they should put all their efforts into helping the tourists get home first.

    4. Once these temporary overstayers are sorted then cater to the the people that live here long term. Your visa will be renewed if you meet the requirements, but back dated to the original time of renewal.
The other thing they could be working on,fix the issues with the online 90 day reporting.
Maybe just dreaming, like I do about winning the lotto or finding a beautiful rich lady to pamper me and take care off all my needs.LOL

  3. I think a lot of us that are living in remote areas are not that well off. But the ones that have let’s say rubbed the locals up the wrong way with huge homes and flash cars might have an issue if it goes to <deleted>. They know you are here on a pension, they know you are getting a monthly income. Hopefully you have embraced the local community and helped out a few that haven’t been so lucky. My thoughts on the matter differ from a lot of others regarding the situation.

I think they should lock down the place for at least 3 to 4 weeks. If your locked down and someone in your home gets sick, call a designated number and the emergency people will come and access the situation. Then after the lockdown has been reached hopefully we would have stopped the spread and the government can gradually easy the restrictions. If they allow this to continue it will continue to spread, this was proved by the the airport debacle the other night. My wife and I have been pretty much in lockdown for about 3 weeks now. Watching tv,checking out FB,watching you tube Etc. We had to go out to the pharmacy a few days ago and we were shocked at how many cars, trucks, bikes are still on the road. How many none essential shops are still open, selling bubble tea, cakes, small hardware shops. Places still open selling tractors, cars. We both were living under a false assumption that only none essential services would be open.
I posted a comment regarding that experience on a post and within 2 minutes I was being attacked by a Thai lady. She replied by saying that Thais needed to survive and why didn’t I say anything to the shop owners.(RIGHT). She went on to say that I was here on a pension and a lot of Thais needed to open their business to survive.

we chatted for awhile and I eventually asked her how she would solve the issue. The reply was,it’s not my problem ,it’s the government’s problem. She wasn’t happy with the way the government are handling the situation, but wasn’t willing to close her business to stop the spread.

So my opion that’s worth Jack <deleted>,shut the place down and try and see if they can stop the spread. If they continue to allow people to do as they wish,it will continue to spread. The longer it takes to stop it the more people it will infect, and the longer people will go without food, money, jobs. Then the <deleted> will start to hit the fan.

  4. I don’t understand why so many people are talking <deleted> on here.

I personally think he is doing the right thing, stopping all foreigners coming into the country. It’s not the time to be taking a holiday. No different to most other European countries. I also think it’s normal to allow your citizens to return home if they meet the requirements. They have sorted the situation out for tourists stuck here and unable to get home. They are giving 30 day extensions to people that needed to do border runs for whatever reason.
As for people living here legally on retirement or marriage visas, nothing was mentioned. I think he should have gone a bit further and shut down the whole show for 4 weeks. Except for essential services, bring in the military to enforce it if needed.
I have lived here for 5 years and never had an issue with any Thai person treating me badly or disrespecting me. I have never had an issue with immigration or the police. During these times of uncertainty and confusion people say and do things out of frustration. This is the first time this has happened in our lifetimes and there are no rule books to follow. People are doing the best they can with what they have under these circumstances. Things might change in the future and I might have to rethink my options. But until then just go with the flow or leave.

You can spread it even if you don't show symptoms.

In the first few days, the number of virus in the body isn't that great but you can still spread the virus when you speak to others via droplets of saliva in the air.

It is only when the number of virus overwhelms the body after multiplying, that body temperature rise and cough develops.

Thanks for clarifying tha, explains a lot.

  6. This stuff happens in all countries, this time it was caught on camera and he is a Thai National according to reports. In a time of need and confusion and uncertainty the good people and good politicians rise to the occasion. Some are totally lost and confused and don’t know how to cope. They say and do things that at the time seem ok to them, but in reality they are just trying to make themselves look good in the eyes of the public. If you can point the blame at someone or something whether it be true or not,the attention is then focused on them and not yourself.

It doesn’t matter if he is Thai,Korean,Chinese,European, it was totally unacceptable for him to do this, and hopefully he is punished for his actions. And I hope the minister puts this us and them attitude to bed and gets on trying to fix the situation we all are facing here in Thailand.

  7. After purchasing our home,we went to a lawyer and had a legal document made up concerning a few things like that.

If my partner was to die I could sell the house and get 50 % of the sale the other 50 % would go to her mom and dad. That’s fine by me as my partner and her family have been wonderful to me. Plus if she died there would only be her brother left to help support mom and dad. I would not really want to live in this house anyway,I would rather move on to something more suitable. We also made arrangements that if I die she can legally sell my car and bike, plus get access to my bank account. The reason we did this, her Aunty was in a relationship with a Falang for years,he died and no will was made. She couldn’t get access to anything. God knows what happened to the money he had in his bank account. If they have treated you well, put something in place to make life easier for them too. PS the other thing, maybe you could do a 30 yr lease on the home as I am sure it is her name. That way you are covered if your wife dies and you don’t want to sell.

Being forced to 'stay out of Thailand' for a while is exactly the reason, why I'll be spending my holidays on the beaches of Gold Coast, Byron Bay, and Cairns next holiday, rather than Phuket or Ko Samui... - I'm sure Oz will appreciate this development aid from Thailand. ????

Oh that’s not nice, making me miss home like that. But I do agree the beaches are 100% better on the Gold Coast. Byron bay is a beautiful relaxing place. It’s a shame that Thailand doesn’t invest a bit of money into these places like patong beach,Kata beach,Karon beach. Two beach cleaners wouldn’t go a stray working between those three beaches. But Australia and Thailand are two completely different countries, they offer different holiday experiences. Depends on what your into,or what you should stay out of.LOL.
